It took three months between finding the 2nd to last card and a good enough copy of the final card I needed to complete my T3 set, but the deed is finally done! This pickup from Mile High was card #104 and the end of journey that started on April 18 of last year. Big thanks to jayshum for the heads up on the auction lot.
https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...e8be7af7_c.jpg Here is the link to the Flickr album of my now complete set of T3's. T3 set (104/104) Of the three sets I've completed in my life, I think that this one brought me the most joy. :) |
Completing a set is the best feeling, congratulations!
|
Beautiful cards Chad, congratulations!
|
Chad congrats on the set completion, Tenney is real tough in any grade
|
Congratulations Chad, pre-war set building nowadays is not an easy task. Super happy for you.

He'll never get his due other than our small tribe here on net54 but he's one of my favorite players and I'm happy to add this to my collection. Now if I can just find a series of 80 Hellmann my life would be complete. |
Thanks all for the kind words. I picked up a few other T3 upgrades as well.

I have been fortunate to meet some great people in this group. The T212 came to me through a lead from asoriano and the 1911 San Francisco Chronicle with an article mentioning my great grandfather was sent to me as a gift from edjs. Thanks guys!

Sharp Cy. I love those green backgrounds when the color is deep and rich like that.
When not looking at my Ruth ball this month, I have been enjoying my first-ever Pre War baseball card, which I reacquired from a friend here on the boards. Always a good feeling when a card you sold years and years ago wound up staying in the same collection, and an opportunity presents to get it back. The D304 Cobb always struck my eye, love the personality they captured in his face on this one. A little mischief in the eyes. Grateful for the back damage that kept this one affordable, then and now! I know Cobb has a ton of great and attractive cards, yet as someone who likes to choose one card to represent everyone not named Mantle (a strategy that keeps the collection lean and pockets from having lint only), this has always been my pick to represent Ty. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...4e3beeb4c1.jpg |

Thank you Matty! That Cobb is very nice. Not sure I’ve seen this Cobb card before. Thanks for sharing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Still interested in low grade PSA T3's. RayB |
Hi all! Longtime reader...first time poster.
I picked up this w560 Cochrane at a card shop today for $100. The guy had gotten it in a large purchase of cards. I did pretty good, right? Excited to add a HOF to my small but growing vintage collection. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...3cd01509_z.jpg |

Ira Thomas H C Weasner Individual Player Portrait Cabinet

Thrilled to have picked up this Ira Thomas H C Weasner Individual Player Portrait Cabinet (Providence) from a recent auction. Plan on matting the cabinet outside the portrait oval.
I had hoped this item existed since I have seen another similar cabinet of one of Ira's Providence teammates within the year. H C Weasner produced cabinets of other Eastern Leeague teams with the same ornate design around the oval. Also added a nice Frank Bowerman T204 to the collection! Patrick |

Thanks to Frank Dean for sharing with Kenneth Bauman that I collected Howe’s back stamped cards, and to Ben Gehler for responding to our post on the B/S/T thread while we searched for a replacement in Kenneth’s collection.
Thanks to all who have and are keeping their eyes out looking for more. Collection wouldn’t be anywhere near where it is without Net54 members. And still no idea why all my recent photos come in sideways. Sorry. |

Any idea of the year? If the card specifically says it is a "lady" team, why are there some non-lady personnel in uniform? |

"At the end of the 1908 season, Wilkinson disbanded the Hopkins men’s team and created a barnstorming club of “Bloomer Girls” named the Hopkins Brothers Champion Lady Baseball Club. He recruited the best female baseball players he could find, including a superstar from the Boston Bloomer Girls, who played under the name Carrie Nation, the famous ax-wielding temperance activist and suffragette. Wilkinson augmented the team with at least three male players, including a catcher who was also a wrestler and who was willing to take on all comers in the small towns in which they played. Beginning in June 1909, the club traveled in style when Wilkinson leased a Pullman Palace railroad car for their barnstorming tours. In addition to the players and a bulldog mascot, he took along a portable ballpark, consisting of a canvas fence 14 feet high and 1,200 feet long, and a canopy-covered grandstand that could seat 2,000 fans. The next year he added a lighting system for use in night games. It would not be the last time he experimented with lights."

I picked this up for $3 at a local antique shop today. I've never found or owned anything like this before so I'm pretty psyched. I actually thought the price tag said $30 and had no problem with that so $3 was a no-brainer. I don't care if this ever actually had a T206 in it. I just think it was a cool find.

So, a day after the Pirates had their worst loss in their history, a 21-0 one to the Cubs, I head to an antique fair and a flea market. At the antique fair, I was recognized by a guy I hadn't seen in about 37 years. We both grow the hair the same way now, which is not at all on top. I sought pre-war cards at both the antique fair and the flea market. It was a Pirate finish, but with a nice off shoot. Here are the off-topic pickups from the antique fair to help deal with the Pirates:
