Jason, we have the same Hubbell virus. I've been collecting King Carl for most of the year.

Not completely vintage, but I picked up a couple of these on Saturday and thought they need to be shown together.

I've always been intrigued when I hear of ML players who collect (or collected ) cards. Even more when it's a star, even still more when it's a HOFer collecting another HOFer.

Gary Carter played 17 games against Tom Seaver. 7Wins-10Losses

9 for 60 with one homer, 4 RBIs and a stolen base.

They were All-Star teammates in '75 & '81, but never battery mates.

I had to get this one - arriving today:

Best of both worlds there my friend! Good on ya!

Collected.

He passed away in 2012.

Oh man, he was young I see. Died of brain cancer at 57. I was living overseas in 2012 so I didn’t recall this. Thank you for letting me know.

The 1971 Topps Greatest Moments #3 Rico Carty is in really sweet shape, way above the grade. I believe the number on the slab indicates it was graded recently, so the (off) centering was probably factored into the grade. 'Normally' it would've gotten either a PSA 7 or 8 OC. There have only been fifty something of these cards graded overall, so I'm psyched to have it.

The 1967 Laughlin World Series #45 Bob Feller (with address on back) is a great card, but it fills me with melancholy since it memorializes a losing effort by the HOF hurler. Oh well.

Sorry I am so late to the dance, but glad you're back, and hope all is good. I have missed your interesting and humorous posts!

I'll put this at the end of the month so you won't have to look at it too long. Just my favorite set as a kid.

Finally finished the 33 set.

These where the last 2 pieces. Thank you boardmember MrReality68 for helping me secure 160 Gehrig. This card has been a tough one for me.

The 149 Ruth was my 1st Goudey purchased, which I sold to get the 53 Ruth. Wasn't planned this way, but it's fitting that it was the last card to complete the set. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...183bea23d0.jpgAttachment 489809

That's a beautiful card. I've never seen the Laughlin cards before. I'm still relatively new to actively collecting vintage. It's going on my want list. lol.

Thanks!

I assume the Snider has serious problems on the back, right?

The Killebrew also seems pretty harsh, unless there are creases not visible in the scan. Does the top right corner really take it all the way down to a 2? More chest-thumping by PSA, I suppose. "Woohoo, *strictness!!*"

gustomania 11-30-2021 12:40 PM

The Snider has a small pencil eraser size paper loss on back, I honestly think the Killebrew is from the bottom right corner. I actually do love nice eye appeal low grade, a change from my Koufax PC so I really appreciate a non perfect card.

I think we are talking about the same corner on the Killebrew - I meant the top right as it is pictured, which would be bottom right if you're looking at it horizontally.

gustomania 11-30-2021 12:53 PM

You are correct sir, we are talking about same corner!

ASF123 11-30-2021 01:01 PM

And I ask you, does that corner mean the card is only 20% as good as a perfect one?

gustomania 11-30-2021 01:05 PM

I guess it’s all in the eye of the beholder :)

Thanks. Yeah I love the half grades too. My '56 Clemente is also a 4.5. Funny how most collectors love half grades - because in this case, it's like saying "Hey, that's a really nice 4..." but dealers generally hate them because they are harder to move for the price they want. :)

jchcollins 12-02-2021 08:42 AM

Duh. Didn't realize I posted my first December pickup in the November pickups thread. Oh well, LOL.
