Monthly Pick ups
Great additions so far guys especially like Mike`s Reggie and the entire group you picked up Lucas. Fairly quiet for me lately but did acquire one card on my 2021 want list. Thanks to Dan Mac for working with me on this 1952 Berk Ross Mantle, wanted one for a while but like everything else getting to pricey. Happy hunting and keep them coming...

Nice Mantle, I have never been able to hold onto one. I’ve had the 53, 56, 58, 61 and 63 at various times over the year. As soon as they were in my hands something else showed up and I sold/traded them as they were so easy to move. I don’t think I could ever fit any of those in my collecting budget now.

Great cards all around. I went for that BVG Aaron for the same reason Mike picked up his Reggie (a nice card is a nice card), and my final FOMO buys were three Berk Rosses. I would have loved to have included the Mantle in that group, but . . . well, maybe one day. Well done.

Got this locally yesterday. Never really searched for one to own, it just kind of fell in my lap.

February pickups
And then I picked this one up this morning. I’ve been finding so many local deals lately. With the popularity of the hobby again a lot of old collectors are dusting off their collections and looking to make a quick buck!

Yep, that is one nice thing about the market, the prices are getting more people interested in selling. Of course, there are a lot more buyers so the cards don't sit around that long either.
|
Wow Joe, double great score!!!

Joe,
That is an awesome looking Henderson rookie. I just picked up these two Clemente's for a decent price and am thinking of getting a couple more of his cards. I never saw him play but he was definitely a great player. |
On a side note, I really enjoy these pickup threads each month. I find it interesting to learn of members collecting interests. Keep up the good work?

Solid day for ‘67’s at the mailbox:

I grabbed one of these last week and am very happy with it. I've always wanted a 53 Jackie with the bridge in the background, but it looks like my window add a 55T is closing based on that PWCC insanity this past Sunday. I am very glad to have this example in hand but my goal of getting more NLB players is fading fast. I'm happy to have landed some of the big cards before getting priced out. Thanks for the look:

Beautiful Jackie Matthew! |
Thanks. I love 58s and that Clemente is one of my favorite cards of his. Nice pickup.
|
Matthew & Dean, the Jackie and Clemente cards are OUTSTANDING. Wow, great pickups.
I just got this, as I’ve always thought it was a beautiful card. It has the boldness of the ‘52 Topps with the boyish exuberance of the ‘54 Bowman (which is the best looking Mantle, IMO). It was on eBay with bad pics that made it look faded. As you can see, it’s most certainly not. I’m elated with this one. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/...8832f481ba.jpg |

Cards This Week
1 Attachment(s)
It was a good week at the mail box for me. I got another Clemente and checked a bucket list item off by getting a Ryan rookie. I know the Ryan is OC but the corners are sharp and the surface is awesome. Also, I am thankful that I have wife that lets me spend money on this hobby. Thanks!
|
Great looking Clemente, Scott!

Thanks Jarrod!

Was content to consider the set complete with a #66 Piersall for the past 30 years. But, recently decided to splurge on this guy for a few more nickels than I would have paid at the mom&pop back in '54. So now, the Splinter is the only guy in a slab in my ex/mt set, but I guess he looks OK.;)

February pickups
Late February randomness. I will forever be a fan of decent looking midgrade stuff that does not break the bank:

Great eye Sir, man those are beautiful. Can`t decide which actually looks better but the "71" Seaver is really outstanding John, enjoy those bad boys for a long time !

February pickups
Not HOFers, but a couple of centered cards for the 52T set that I'm working on...

A couple of additions this month. A Gene Brocker menko card, and a ticket stub to the first game of the tour. October 15, 1949 San Francisco Seals vs. Yomiuri Giants from Korakuen Stadium in Tokyo. The Seals defeated the Giants 13-4.

Just got this in the mail yesterday.

Bradley, that may be the most centered ‘55 Topps I’ve ever seen. Wow. And I love that Berra too, Dave. Such a great pose.

Very nice card Bradley indeed, very gradable:)

I knew damn well I was overpaying for this card, but the centering isn't too bad, the corners are magnificent, and I really think it's time to climb aboard the Ryan Express before you're left holding the bag in 'High Price Station' (wow, that was quite a reach with that metaphor). On a side note, if you check out the supposed 'equivalent' straight graded cards (in PSA 7), they almost always have worse centering than this one...
Attachment 442603 ...and if you read the words of wisdom  at the bottom of my signature, it'll tell you exactly what happened next. A week and a half later, another 1972 Topps #595 Nolan Ryan PSA 9 OC came up for auction and sold for more than twice (2.26 times) as much as what I overpaid for this guy. Yowza!! |
