Congrats Andy on getting the T217 Peck - I'm very happy for you! And Ryan, I agree with the others who feel you got the blue OM at a good price. Bryan, surely there isn't a better Casey Stengel photo in existence. Lots of other great pick-ups!
Being that I am working on a master set of Sam Rice's cards, I'm beyond stoked to have won 4 of the 5 1917 Sam Rice rookie cards, including my "Holy Grail" Sam Rice RC, the D350-2 Standard Biscuit, the only one in the combined pop reports. I saw this card in the PSA pop report several years ago and assumed I'd never have an opportunity to acquire it. I also didn't have Sam's 1917 blank-back RC. The other two RCs, the H801-8 Boston Store & D328 Weil Baking, are upgrades. |

+4 :) Maybe we'll have to make a collage of Mr Rice too!

Andy McG - congrats on the Zeenut Cochrane with Coupon. Another on my "for consideration" list. That'll look great in your collection! |
Thanks, Derek!

I got nothing, HOWEVER, it was the catalyst for me picking up something. I was watching the Old Judge King Kelly Left Batting like a hawk. The background just makes me melt, and is probably my favorite OJ I've ever laid my eyes on.
I didn't get that one in specific, but it did light a fire under me to pick up one that was offered to me about eight months ago. I hemmed, hawed, dreamed about it, and ultimately said no...until the one popped up at REA. So, my Kelly left batting is coming home, and I am jumping out of my skin excited! |
I swung and missed at a few things in this auction...but frankly had a great time chasing and it certainly lit a fire for me. I have seen a couple responses referencing future vintage auctions coming up. I try to pay attention to the boards and really appreciate the banner ads, but I have missed a couple of auctions. Is there a site that members here use to keep track of all auctions/schedules? Much of what I see online seems to have very dated Info...but I am not the best with technology. Thanks
|
I picked up a baseball signed by Mantle and another by Mays in same lot. Thought I was going to get the ever elusive 1914 Cracker Jack Cobb for a great price (the only one I could afford), but fell asleep right before 12 and someone got it for an additional $250.

I almost can't believe I was bidding on this little gem only 2? nights ago?!?!?!?!?
It is now in my hands! I couldnt have gotten it quicker if I had sat outside their building! Plus I would have frozen my butt off! Holy cow! Dean and the crew at REA are simply incredible! Thanks! I'm speechless! Peace, Mike Attachment 430165 |

Those 3D cards are really cool. Surprised Topps didn't gain more consumer traction with those things.
On another subject, this thread is funny when you hear someone say they almost got this card or that card and then another guy says yeah it was me who outbid you. lol. |
True!

I did have a distinct advantage. I am also a consignor, my winning lot was paid for out of my sales so it was instant! Now hoping my items that I consigned are paid for! lol Peace, Mike |

Picked up the last card needed to complete the set! It didn't feel as satisfying as I had envisioned but I'm not holding it in my hand yet either. Sales tax is very painful too. The cards was $6k with the BP and with tax and shipping I paid about $6,700.
|
Congrats on completing the set, quite an accomplishment.

Congratulations Micah, I was wondering if you got it. I didn’t want to ask, lol

I'm thinking that the states are amazed about the income (sales tax) that they're receiving from all the online sales.
|
I think I'm the one you outbid on the Standard Biscuit Rice. Incredible card and I collect Standard Biscuits but I got sucked into a war over a different card and had to make a choice. Glad it went to such a devoted collector. Those Rice rookies are just fantastic. Great job!

I love reading this thread.
I'm still amazed at the treasures that this auction had and the devoted collectors that went after their targets. Jim C, that Herp Cobb is incredible! Micah, terrific accomplishment on the 15CJ set! Val...as everyone here agrees, those Rice cards belong with you. VTGMSC (Mike)...Go Joe Jax! It's great to see a Vermonter in the vintage big leagues! (I lived there until 1998) And to all the others, fantastic! Looks as though the Net54 board did right well in this auction! |
I got ... nothing. Anyone pick up N332 SF Hess lot(s)?
I am empty-handed. THough my wallet is not any lighter.
Anyone who picked up one or both of the N332 SF Hess lots, please LMK If you want to sell any of the track & field athletes/pedestrians. Thanks. Best, Ed |

Awesome pickups everywhere! |
Thanks to John W., Jobu/Bryan, Andrew, Ryan, Derek, John C. & Brian L. for your kind comments re the Sam Rice rookie cards I picked up.
Jim C., I'm grateful that you decided to focus on another card, which I assume is the amazing 1916 Herps of Cobb you won, instead of the Standard Biscuit of Rice. FYI, I was prepared to bid whatever it took to win this card, and I was most worried about competing against a Standard Biscuit collector, such as you. |

REA - First and Last?
First time I have bid in REA auction, actually any auction than a couple on eBay and might be my last. Someone how I was out bid for an item four hours after the auction ended, or sorta ended. I just don't have 7 hours to spend refreshing a screen every 10 minutes to see if two people bidding on an item no one else care about are done so the rest of the items close.
Is this how all Sports card auctions are run or? I'll get off my soapbox now :) |
Quote:
|
I also saw that there was an option to sign up for text and/or email alerts in case you were outbid. I signed up but thankfully I didn't receive any notifications, so I was not able to test how effective the system was. If it weren't for that, I agree, it might be a bit onerous to have to keep checking.

Thanks everyone for the input, it made me look at the auction differently now. The REAL bidding start at Midnight is good and put in high bid and go to bed is good too.
I appreciate it. |

Always wanted to collect the Brownies and an upgrade on my Maddox. The lower grade Nicholl and a lower grade Maddox will be on the BST soon.

It was really great picking up a couple of the biggest ones from this very tough set. As far as I know, I don't think a full set has been completed. Checklist may not be complete or accurate. Joe Jackson has had one public sale that I know of and some wonder if a Wagner exists and some commons are ultra-rare as well. It was a nice start but won't ever finish the set. but it will be fun to track down more over time! |
All of these pick ups are top notch, I get very jealous whenever I see these threads after major auctions. Congratulations to everyone who won something!
As a side note, I might need to rob a bank before the next Auction comes around :D |
Great cards! charlietheexterminator, I absolutely love the Cobbs, congrats, I'm jealous. I was watching all three that you picked up. I very recently jumped back in after 8 years being busy with other things, and this auction really helped to do that. The catalog is beautiful in and of itself.
I made the plunge into '33 Goudey, picking up an SGC low-to-mid grade partial set in the auction, a lot that I slowly but surely became completely enamored with. I was really happy to pick it up, it's an amazing jump start to building the set. Congrats to everyone :) |
I got two items that i wanted and a bonus.
The Home Run Baker signed check for $840 inc buyers premium seemed soft to me. https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=73002 The other two items were John McGraw and Eddie Collins signed checks. I did not expect to be able to get them both but i did. The McGraw is check is extremely rare and the Eddie Collins check is a close second. Most McGrew checks had the signature cut out of the check but this one somehow escaped. Great addition to my collection. https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=73029 https://bid.robertedwardauctions.com...e?itemid=73080 The Gehrig check was beautiful and a relative bargain at $20k with buyers premium. IT appears the Gehrig family is letting more checks out into the market. |
REA Shipping Question
Can anyone tell me what shipping service REA is using, and do they provide you with a tracking number once your items are shipped? With the current nightmare shipping delays, due to holiday shipping and COVID, this seems like a terrible time of year to be moving all these pricey (and priceless) pieces.

Andrew, thanks for your kind words re my Sam Rice pick-ups. |
Great, great stuff, guys. I see a few lots I was going after a bit...nice to see people of such good taste here.
I really thought I went "all in" on a Wilt Chamberlain RC. Apparently not. I ended up with this N174: https://createauctioncdn.azureedge.n...4_1_160902.jpg I am not a fan of OJs unless they are clear and have good contrast, which this one of HOFer McAuliffe does. You can even see the details on the championship belt. Paid by Zelle and the card is already in hand; lightning shipping by REA. |
Managed to snag:
1. N172, OJ McClennan, SGC 80. 2. E90-1, Ed Walsh, PSA 2. 3. '48-49 Leaf, Joe D. PSA 3.5 VG+ 4. 1953 Topps, Mays, SGC 4.5 VG/EX+ Happy boy. |
Check Received
I just received my e-mailed check for two items I consigned. Can't help but be impressed.
Peace and stay healthy. |
