Posted already in the REA pickup thread, but this just arrived. Includes HOFers Rube Foster, Pete Hill, & Louis Santop. This haunting image speaks to all of my passions about card collecting! Difficult to choose a favorite child... but this one CURRENTLY is she. :-)

So excited when I got the text that my REA package was out for delivery. Met the mail lady at the box. So glad to add this to my Des Moines collectionn. BTW when I showed it to my 12 year old son he said that the guy in the middle looks like Putin. Made me laugh out loud.

Nice card Jason! I'm always amazed cardboard that old has managed to survive.
|
Wow DJ, well done. Is that one on the end a blank back or just a skinned back/scrap?
|
Thanks, Lou!

Orange Background Cy Young What Am I ? Printers Scrap? "1909-11 era Orange background Cy Young card, a pose used on various issues...E90-1, E92 & E101. This one has been glued to some heavier stock and appears to either be skinned or on paper stock. It appears to be possibly handcut and display very heavy blue inking, especially behind Young's head, a trait not seen on any of the normal Orange background Young's from the standard series. Might this have been some kind of printers scrap? A tough and desirable card from any of the aforementioned sets, we will start it low and let it fly. You may use it as a hole filler for the set of your choice." |

Already posted in the REA and Cobb threads but this beauty arrived on Thursday and I was blown away at how nice this card actually is in person. The pictures really don't do it justice.
I have always wanted a great looking CJ Cobb without breaking the bank and this card has more than surpassed what I ever expected to find. This card has four sharp corners, near perfect centering and bright bold beautiful colors and fits like a glove in the holder. The card was taken from a scrap book and has just a small minor area where the print and card back was lightened when removed from the book but doesn't show even a trace of paper loss. I was actually surprised it received an altered label because it's an extremely small area on the back where just six letters appear to have been lightly traced over leaving a slightly green hue. I thought this could have possibly even garnered a numerical grade with a MK qualifier. With the amount of card doctoring that has taken place in the hobby, i would much rather have a beautiful example like this rather than a questionable card sitting in a high grade holder at a hell of a lot higher price. |
Todd,
Dear Lord that's gorgeous!!!! Congratulations on stepping up and adding a beauty so close to Christmas! Phil |
Phil, thank you for the kind words.

From REA. A welcome year-end addition to my collection. (FYI: photo is from when I was considering a trade for the very same card, which obviously didn't pan out and was a real nail-biter :),with collector some astute BMs will identify based on the thumb alone:)). Happy Festivus!

Merry Christmas to me! I have never liked card #6 in my '52 Baseball Stars set. I have had two different images in that spot, but neither was "52ish"
I pounced on this 4x5 negative from 1949. I always try to be spot on with the dates of the images I use when making cards, but this one is too awesome. |

Really love this display! Can you PM me the contact info for your friend David at Cigar Box Cards?

Great looking Cobb Todd! I went the same route with my 1915 Cobb and got a PSA AUth/altered. Mine presents similar to yours and just had one pressed corner, no trimming. For the price I would have had to settle for a very low grade unaltered copy.

My last two pickups of 2019. The E106 Wagner rights a wrong and the George Ruth Candy Co. replaces my SGC 4 and has the redemption back which I think is so cool. Merry Christmas everyone!

Excellent card |
Gentleman, you have some really great looking cards. Phil, that Thompson is absolutely awesome. Love unique photos like that.
Erick, it's a nice feeling knowing you have a gem looking card that hasn't been cut on and especially without the insane price tag. I think as time goes on, cards like ours will gain more appeal and a lot more value as more of the trimming fraud is uncovered in the hobby. |
Working my way toward a T205 Brooklyn team set. This Dahlen has paper loss on the back but it still works great in my collection!https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...966ef80cc2.jpg

Leon, Dan, Tom: great pick ups. Solid way to close the year.

Sorry to bid you up on that one Leon. I was the under bidder and your competition as the auction wound down.
Glad to hear it’s back home. Tis’ A beauty......... |
Congrats Leon!
Congrats on having the Ty Cobb T205 return home!
That's a keeper for sure! Glad he wasn't a catcher! Patrick |

That registration on the Cobb is exceptional. Cross it off your list forever, Lol.
Totally different direction here--didn't add anything huge, but did make solid additions to my sets this month. The Franco presented a challenge I was not expecting! The color strike and overall surfaces were important to me. Seems it's either drab or colorful with extraneous distractions. This one will satisfy me for awhile, I believe. |

Of the Jennings cards known to exist, I believe the only one I need is an E106 Am. Caramel. The last time I checked, the combined pop reports showed 17, but I've not seen one since I started my back run about 4-5 years ago. Anyone know where I might find one? Besides the E106, these 3 Jennings cards, in theory, could/should have been produced, but I've never seen any of them, and none are listed in the pop reports: D303 Mothers' Bread. E92 Croft's Candy with a RED back. T216 Kotton Cigs with the "Never Go Out" back. |
Received today. Very excited to be holding the hard-to-find set 1938-39 Cincinnati Reds W-711. I purchased a large lot in order to add about 10 cards to my set, needed the McKechnie and Vander Meer. Two of the cards were the variation backs W-711-2.
Ps: selling the duplicates on BST.https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...6df711e383.jpg Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G930A using Tapatalk |
