Resurrecting this old thread for some early Wagners:

Great cards Ryan, thank you for showing them. I love seeing the e107 & w600 (same image) together, special special cards.

One of these Orange Border Wagner cards was shown previously in this thread, but that was so 4 years ago, and it didn't have jagged borders like this one.

Scarce cigar label proofs. I’m grateful to have come across these at the National a couple of months ago.

Aaron, those are incredible! Nice snag

As usual really great items. Those cigar bands are cool as hell. Don`t have much to contribute but here`s a couple Honus items from the collection.

Love the way this thread starts. The W600 Wagner in the Burdick catalog is definitely one of the cards that drew many collectors to the hobby. Such a beautiful card. Thank everyone for sharing such a wonderful assortment of Wagners!

Ryan:
You might already know this but HOF Executive Ed Barrow is also pictured on that Paterson image (middle row, second from left). |

Phil, I did not know that. Very cool bonus. |
Type 1 of Honus rubbing down a 1912 model "spit ball bat". Prior to his 1947 season as a coach.
Apologies for the poorly taken image. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...237ceca488.jpg |
Thank you chiprop, Hugh, & Jeff.

Without any…let me rephrase…with very few tobacco cards issued of the Flying Dutchman, you can see that this thread is much more devoid of cards versus the Ty Cobb thread.
I would think that the dearth of cards available of Hans probably accounts for his relatively higher prices. I know that Wagner is a glaring hole in my “rookie” collection. I’m still holding out for an affordable NCP or M101-1. |
Derek:
Affordable used to mean $10K. Nowadays mid 5-figures. I'm still looking for one of those as well. I used to have 2 M101-1's at different times as well as an 1896 Paterson team photo button issued by Whitehead & Hoag. |

Michael, that is a great piece |

Not 100% sure but I believe they don’t fit inside their largest holder. The Delahanty was probably trimmed down to where it would fit, hence the “A” grade.
|
At that price point for the M101-1, I might have instead opted for the National Copper Plate that’s potentially a year older and has been sitting on eBay for years now. Listed for $75,000 as a BIN o/b/o. I would imagine that there is a good chance that $50K would do it. Looks very clean to me as well. I don’t know the seller personally but not sure how much faith I would have spending that kind of money there.

Not easy getting Washington into this thread, but I do have the Dutchman at the 1933 World Series.

The M101-1 was definitely included with the August 19,1899 issue of The Sporting News. |

You’re right, Kevin. I wasn’t looking at the NCP when I posted that so wasn’t aware that the date was printed on it. Memory isn’t as good as it used to be. :)
