Was handed this cool triple bobblehead on my way in for the Jays-Rays game on August 11. Pays tribute to the "1993 American League Batting Title Top Three" of Alomar, Molitor & Olerud

Couldn't reply to each of these great collections... But enjoyed so many.
Here are the most recent acquisitions. And I thought I was the only one with horse racing jockeys and horse bobbles. I sell more than I can collect. |

I recently picked up a couple of "Catman" Willie Mays nodders (flanking the vintage Willie in the middle). The two outer nodders are also Catman and were limited to 24 pieces each. These were made by a guy in Canda 15-20 years ago. I'm not sure how he made the "realistic" Mayses because they are very close to the vintage but not exact (for example, the hat crest is embossed and not a decal). The white base sold on ebay a few weeks ago for $227 but then the buyer demanded a refund and left negative feedback saying it was "repainted junk." Uh, no...it's a Catman. Dude should have known by the painted chest. I got it the second time around for $100.
There is also a realistic Mays in a NY road uni and a caricature Bonds that was limited to 25 pieces. I am on the lookout for both. I think Jimm has them. |
Nice on the Catmans thought that mighta been you. Had never seen the gold base.. there is a Mays with National League All-Star jersey and a red base Mays... Haha probably more. I do have the Bonds

I'm digging these Catman nodders. Here's another Mays variant:
|
Wonder if they started cranking these out again?

I've got a few hundred (modern) bobbles and have been looking for a way to display them. No room for bookshelves in my "cave", but I don't trust shelves hanging on the wall since I'm worried they'll bobble themselves right off the edge and fall onto the floor. Just bought 14 of these from IKEA, by my calculations they should hold 8-9 standard sized bobbles each and I'll feel like my little guys are safe behind a bar without being obscured.

Those ought to work well, David. I used Ikea “rails,” turned upside down. Mine don’t have the safety bar feature. :p |
Those look good too! Was getting ready to purchase some picture ledges from Target when I found these new IKEA guys. They should arrive today, looking forward to putting them up this weekend.

I think I just figured something out....
(from left to right) The first Giants bobbin' head (other than the rubber Buddy Flex) was the orange wood base with no decals; next came the color base with no decals; next came the white base mini's with decals. After those it was the white bases. The white bases with decals are purported to be only 5% of the white base run. The decals are tiny. I'm now thinking they used the mini decals on the first white bases... |
Milwaukee Bobble Head Museum
You guys should come to Milwaukee to the National Bobble Head Museum. I believe they have over 10,000 different Bobbles.

Here you go Rob... not Catman, a guy in the southwest did these for a while, though no longer I'm told. Had him do the ooo-ribay, later bought the Mays off a friend... seems to me this was an old timers day uni for Willie?https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...c5ad62196f.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f78939a630.jpg

What country were the original vintage bobbles or nodders made?

"1960's Bobbing Head dolls were manufactured by Lego, a Swiss firm, and as we all know were put together in Japan. Apparently Lego made an agreement with Sports Specialties of Los Angeles California which gave S.S. the exclusive rights to import and distribute the dolls. Another firm, Bobbie Enterprises,Inc. sold them through mail order." |
Thank you ooo ribay for the answer. Is that the same Lego who makes Legos plastic building blocks?

SF Giants weirdo bobbleheads
Hello everyone. I’m new. And recently inherited 3 Kreiss and Co 1960’s SF Weirdo Giants bobblehead/nodders. I have screw ball, crybaby and the angry face. All in excellent condition. I’m looking for more information on how to get the value of them or where to go to sell them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here some of my catman collection.. Might trade for other cool bobble heads etc. I have many more upload later.. If you have questions on catman i know the history well.
Matt Hirsh started making these in the mid 90s.. I actually was the first one to sell a few on ebay in 1997. He actually sold these on ebay from 1999 to around 2005. Matt an artist he hand created his own molds and hand painted them.. So there all kinds of variations. He still makes these in limited quanities. Hope that helps.. |
DWR, I like your '63 Hall of Fame busts. Those are on my want list of future purchases.

This worked out great for me because this "short bat" variety was one of the only Giants mini's I was lacking. I got it relatively cheap, due to the damage. My amateur restoration didn't turn out too bad.
|
WOW Rob! Looks like the work of a master from your pics, great job. I'm tempted to try an old Tigers Bobblehead repair with far less damage than you started with. What type of paint did you use?

It's meant as a term of endearment (and the ultimate compliment), but she does not see it that way, haha. Regardless... Great Chisox collection, Doug! You've really cornered the market on the Minis. |

Which one is not like the others?

It's this guy! In my 30 years of collecting Giants nodders, this is the first I've been able to get with "eyes right." The odd thing is, Doug earlier posted a picture of 16 KC A's mini's and 14 of his 16 (88%) are "eyes right." This is a mystery to me...conventional wisdom is that the dolls were made by Lego, a Swiss company, shipped to Japan for paint and decals and then exported to the States. So, why would "eyes right" be so prevalent with Doug's mini's and so rare with my Giants (1 of 40)? All I can think of is that they went to different painting facilities...

Another mystery....Lou Criscione's bobber book shows only three teams to ever have a bat on the player's left side...KC, Angels and a Cubs black face. Again, if all dolls were shipped from Lego to Japan, wouldn't it stand to reason that the left bat was seen in all (or most) teams? I would have thought Japan would get "raw" dolls and just paint and decal them according to demand.
Although only 50-60 years old, I think nodders are hugely undervalued and underappreciated. They are very fragile and many got blown up with firecrackers (by kids like me). In my mind, they were the coolest things sold at souvenir stands in the past 60 years. In the "Hey, pennant guys" thread, we have dissected pennants (ad nauseum). With our collective knowledge, we have solved many mysteries as to when, where and by who pennants were made. I'd love to expand my nodder knowledge to the same degree. |

The best bet might be to get John Brey (All Doll Auction) or Tim Hunter (if he's still around) signed up to net54. I know that John is incredibly well-versed and knowledgeable in every aspect of Bobblehead collecting. Same for Tim, but he seems to have permanently exited the hobby. It would actually be great to get either of them aboard, as they'd bring a wealth of knowledge to the forum. |

I need to track down an 80 year old Japanese fella who worked in the factory! |
Pretty safe to say the mysteries will always abound.

As a matter of fact, John Brey has the left bat A’s and black face Cubs in his just opened auction.

This promo went for over $35k last night. Highest price I’ve ever seen for a nodder. That’s a lot of dough but way cooler than a low grade ‘53 Mantle, IMO.

I remember admiring CFL team bobbleheads at Ken's Variety on Wharncliffe Road in London circa 1963. Because of this memory from my formative years, I could be tempted by vintage (pre-1966) CFL bobbleheads although I don't have any at present.

Bobbleheads!!! We focus on the original 1960s examples, and tried to be as informative as possible. Rob G. probably could’ve done it a lot better, but feel free too give it a look anyway! https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=LfUNHr...YmxlaGVhZHM%3D Thanks! |

Its interesting how overtime the body of the nodder can be in excellent shape, but the lettering on the chest or base decides to just fade away. Assuming it has to do with the adhesive they used back then. |
Those are beauties! Yup, it's funny how some of the decals held up better than others. Some stayed clear, some toned just a bit, and some turned a legitimate brown color.
Great collection.... thanks for posting! |
Even though they’re the last of the vintage dolls, the gold bases are the hardest to find in really good condition. Even in the late 1960’s, the quality of things was deteriorating.
