I know this isn't quite prewar, but it is a rarity I will not be selling.

I’ve been after one of these, still in the bag, for a while. This was the first bobbin’ head ever. They produced Giants, D**gers, Braves and White Sox. 98 cents in 1960. You can see how the color base series got its mold.

To celebrate the Eagles finally winning a Superbowl, I picked up a full run of home ticket stubs from 1960, the last time the Eagles won a NFL championship.

Recent pickup I finally got around to taking some pictures, if anything it is a bit nicer than I remembered it being. No glove, tag or anything else inside. I had posted about this in the BST and wanted the people that asked to see it had a chance if they forgot to check back there. I'd love to find the glove that originally came with it, there are low grade examples available but I'd like a nice blue one.
I have no idea why the pictures are sideways here but they are oriented normally on my website? http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove1.jpg http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove2.JPG http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove3.JPG http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove4.JPG http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove1.jpg http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove2.JPG http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove3.JPG http://starsofthediamond.com/71glove4.JPG |
HOF Ernie Lombardi circa 1930's H & B "Blue Streak" bat
4 Attachment(s)
I'm really stoked to have added this circa 1930's 36" Ernie Lombardi H & B "Blue Streak" bat to my Vander Meer "double no-hit" collection.
"The Schnozz" was Vandy's catcher for both of his back-to-back no-hitters on June 11th and June 15th, 1938. This bat will be a nice complimentary piece and will join two Vandy model bats that I have in my collection. Can any of our resident bat experts share what they know about this particular Lombardi model bat being called a "Blue Streak"? I'm guessing it's because Lombardi could hit up a blue streak (career .300 hitter, but arguably the slowest runner in baseball history), but I am curious. Any help that anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated! ;) |

I can see why Lombardi was known as The Schnozz! :D

those eagles tickets are tremendous!!!!

Rob, love, love that bobble. Were they plastic bobbles? I can't see those being sold in a plastic bag if they were made of ceramic.
Awesome glove box and bat! Mike |

Picked up these 2 WWII programs. Bummed that I lost the other 2 (which were larger size). If the winner of those is here, I'd love to see if there's a deal to be made.

1944 Central Pacific Area Baseball Championship Scorebook-Game 4
5 Attachment(s)
I'm sorry Jeff, I suppose I am guilty as charged... :o
I was happy to finally be able to add a nice scorebook from game 4 of the 1944 Central Pacific Area Baseball Championship in Hawaii. Originally the brainchild of Admiral Chester Nimitz, this WWII baseball championship pitted the Navy All-Stars vs. the Army All-Stars. Due to many MLB stars entering WWII to support the war effort, Nimitz realized that creating this Championship Series would be an excellent idea to entertain the troops and boost morale. Game 4 was essentially the Series clincher for the Navy which ran the table mostly on the back of great pitching from two MLB pitchers that would hurl two no-hitters in a single season: Johnny "Double No-Hit" Vander Meer in 1938 and Virgil "Fire" Trucks in 1952. This game was attended by 10,000 enthusiastic servicemen that were fortunate enough to witness the game played on September 26th, 1944. Here is a recap of the clinching 4th game of the series: HONOLULU – Winning the first four games, the navy captured the mythical championship of the armed forces from the Army in the Pacific World’s Series, chiefly through superior pitching. Although the Bluejackets won the title by the sweep, the three other contests in the series were played for the benefit of men in other sections of this area. A home run by Ken Sears in the first half of the twelfth inning at Fort Schofield, Oahu, clinched the third contest, 4 to 3, for the Navy, and the Bluejackets made it four straight at Naval Air Station, Kaneohe Bay on September 26th, 10 to 5. |

Congrats on a great pickup! |
Thanks Jeff!
This Championship Series crosses a few collecting themes that I think are very cool. WWII baseball, a series dominated by double no-hit pitchers, Vander Meer specifically, the deep talent of MLB players, etc. BTW, I believe we have a duty to carry this WWII baseball collecting theme forward, FWIW. When history isn't preserved, people forget... Scott |

I was able to add 23 new M113 supplements to my collection this month, giving me a total of 937 (and counting) different ones.
The best of the additions would have to be these: |
I hope I can make it but I'm not sure yet.
