Bobby Murcer's autograph that I got on the Boardwalk at Seaside Heights NJ during the 1981 Baseball Strike. I met him at the shooting gallery and he asked me to make change for his dollar we were side by side, and then we talked about 10 minutes he was really nice.

My dad is a life long Yankee fan.

I love him anyway.

A few years ago I took him to Yankee Stadium and Cooperstown.

My best Yankee items are pictures of him in Yankee Stadium.

Mark S - i have never seen that pennant with 'Champions' going down the side. 1936? Is it particularly rare?QUOTE]

Hi Peter... Sorry I missed your question from way back in this thread...

Yes, the Yankees pennant is from 1936, and very rare. I've only seen one other like it, and that one was really beat-up. FWIW, here is a sideways look at the left side....

perezfan 06-24-2017 12:09 PM

Great thread, thanks for sharing. I enjoy the old score cards, pre printed with lineups. Imagine that happening today. Also, the old ticket stubs and the low prices to see historic games in old Yankee stadium.

Thanks Mark. Boy they did a great job of making that player look generic - no hint of Dimaggio (or gehrig) there. And looks a bit timid too.

But cool and rare nonetheless!

MSVNYC, Terrific Yankees collection! I take it that's an early Mantle auto? Also loving the Yankee Stadium photos.

Mike

MVSNYC 07-05-2017 03:17 PM

Thanks Mike.

As early as it gets...July, 1951, with Joe D. It's dated to a specific day in July, as its signed on the back of a menu, which has daily (dated) specials. At their hotel in Detroit. This was a sleeper piece I bought several years back, then had it framed with double sided glass, so you can see the front of menu...I'll see if I have better pics.

Mike- here are some proper pics of the '51 framed piece...they signed on the back of the menu. Right after this Detroit road trip (while wearing #6), Mantle went down to minors...he came back up later in the season wearing #7.

Wow.... a Tunafish Salad Sandwich for 83 cents. Interesting retail price, but what a deal

It is chalkware Mike and it has been attributed (not confirmed) to be from the 1932 WS against the Cubs who also made a similar plaque I'm pleased to say I own:)

perezfan 07-13-2017 04:54 PM

That's a gorgeous piece, Mike...

I love the silver "wash" on the Cubs version. Have you ever seen a Yankees version with the silver or gold "coating"? Of the very few I've seen, I believe all are white like yours.

Would love to find one of these at the National (but not getting my hopes up :o )

When I go to some Yankees games I wear this early Jersey. I reserve it for cool weather days as its heavy and warm.

Thank you :)

No, it's not a gamer :)...it has nothing to do with the Yankees. It's just a jersey from a local team from probably the late '30s. I just like it because it says Yanks. I get a lot of stares and questions when I wear it to the Stadium.

I once wore it to Fenway, and a couple people thought it was the 'Boston Yanks' (football team).

ruth-gehrig 08-19-2017 02:51 PM

Hey Rob!
You know the license plate idea never occurred to me but it sure could have been. Its roughly the size of a license plate. Its definitely homemade and a heavy painted enamel.

The four holes are what gave me that thought. It may be homemade but it looks like whoever did it had some sign painting type talent.

Made from cut up baseball cards which is awesome

I love that Ruth underwear photo. Love that Babe seems to have a sly smile knowing what he is selling to the public. That pennant rocks also.
