There are a few examples of back stamps in the collection.

Can't read the one on the first page. But I can make out:
"Harold Easterday"
"GLENN LAZZELLE" x7

Too bad there are none from Mr. McCormick...

And if this site had a like button, I would be hitting it repeatedly.

Good luck with the cards!

To quote an old Seinfeld episode, "They're real, and they're FABULOUS!".

Thanks... my memory apparently is not what it once was...

Perhaps I remember the picture better than the words ;)

Since it has been determined that the cards are real I wonder how many PMs has the OP received from potential buyers?

Sorry guys. No rare Doyle.

This is too cool. Very interested to see what the owner does. Congratulations!

Certainly a nice little find but nothing earth-shattering. No rarities or pristine HOFers. I don't know why everybody was so skeptical.

"Not that there's anything wrong with that." ;)

I think the skepticism was because they were found in the basement. Everyone knows that most legitimate finds are located on the ground level, not the basement or attic. Those two levels are usually where damaged reprints are found.

Brian

By the way, nice little discovery...all old cards are cool, especially ones that you didn't know existed.

Yeah but didn't he say that they were in those pages when he found them? Obviously, they were put in those pages somewhat recently. So the cards may have been in a basement for a short time. Furthermore, not every basement is a nightmare. Mine kinda is but some people have finished basements that aren't prone to flooding and such.

If he posted a bunch of fuzzy pictures of Drum backs or Honus Wagners or ridiculous "ghost images", I'd get the snarky responses to his posts. But his cards are, for the most part, heavily creased commons with a few poor condition HOFers, all with rather common backs.

You could never make such a find out here in California. Finding a house with a basement in this state is a million times tougher than finding a T206 Wagner in a dollar box at a garage sale.

Cool!

I think this is a really cool find. I can't imagine finding a stash of cards anywhere. The feeling would be exhilarating and as you surveyed what you found it would just be fun. Congrats on the find! It certainly isn't a stash of Ty Cobbs, but it beats the only find I have ever made, a 1954 Topps Granny Hamner when we were cleaning out my grandparents house for an estate sale.

One of 3 boxes that survived two earthquakes and a mudslide (SoCal). Was in my bedroom closet for the San Fernando quake (1971). In 1974, on my 21st birthday, I moved to San Francisco. Before I left I put the boxes on a basement shelf, wrote my name on them, and told my mother not to move them. (She was there for the second quake and mudslide). And there they stayed until I picked them up about 10 years ago and brought them back to NY, along with herself. No Wagner in there, but plenty of those cards are now in the hands - or have passed through the hands - of many Net54 members...Ts, Es. Topps, Bowman...etc.

Nice to see a legitimate find. Thanks for sharing. Great stuff!

Being on this board a long time gives one a fair amount of skepticism on finds like this. This one turned out good and I hope the OP starts collecting, actually.

I would have loved to have been a fly on the wall when the experts sat down and had a good look at the E98 Black Swamp find. I am sure a holy s**t was among the many comments made.

ramram 09-19-2016 03:35 PM

Anything more from the OP? Anything more known about the Doyle?

Joshchisox08 09-19-2016 03:50 PM

I'm always willing to accept donations of Cobb cards..... =)

Just saying OP
