Finally found the right one at the right price. One of the great things about net54 man. I was turned on to the card by a member (erik lewin) who knew i was on the hunt, and the guy selling it on ebay is a somewhat inactive member. But once i reached out to him and he saw I am a member, we did a fantastic off-ebay transaction. Just cant get this dang pic upright!!!

GasHouseGang 09-16-2016 12:03 AM

That's was the rare horizontal Cracker Jack Cobb!:D. You fixed the picture, now it looks much better. Congrats on picking up that beauty.

In search of Mattys and good karma for my Giants. I'd been watching the T213 for months, but the combination of the 10% bonus bucks, Ebates, and a win vs the Cards made it impossible to resist any longer (the 4 beers at the game didn't hurt either :D).

Stonepony 09-16-2016 07:25 AM

Thanks for the compliment. You have encapsulated my collecting mantra in that sentence. Low grade cards with great centering that present well-above grade is what I buy. And while i am thrilled with my cj cobb, Erik's looks like it just came out of a box !!!

..there must have been a document dump somewhere earlier this year because I've never been able to pair up so many of my cards with their original photos ;
...I just received the "Underwood & Underwood" 5 x 7 'Oral Hildebrand P.-Cleveland' which was used to create the 1933 Worch Cigar Premium "O. Hildebrand Cleveland A.L.". The Worch measures 3 1/2 x 5 1/2. I love the pose and the intense look on his face.

It never ceases to amaze me the condition some of these cards are in after all these years!

Some definitely loved their cards, even way back then.

Been a busy September, FINALLY (2 years later) picked up a Matty. Now I'm only a Bresnahan, Grover Alexander and Dick Hoblitzell away from having a card to match everyone in my tobacco ad. Have Cobb, Mathewson, and Huggins.

Growing up and attending local card shows there was always a dealer who sat up and brought along what looked like a higher grade 1953 Topps Mantle. I remember it being displayed in one of those 1 inch screw down holders and what a beautiful card it was. I'm happy to own a copy of the card I alway remember admiring as a kid. Thank you Andy for another smooth transaction :)

I picked up this trade card at the Valley Forge show yesterday. It's a stock card that printed the advertiser's information in the blank space between the bat and catcher's mask/bats. The card measures 4 3/8" X 7 3/8" and is printed on heavier stock. It was produced in 1886 by Ketterlinus Lithographers, one of Philadelphia's premier printers/lithographers of the late 19th/early 20th century. The baseball scene on this card was a stock depiction for Ketterlinus and is identified by the number 2217 beneath the ball.

Enjoy, Mike

Looks like the first word could be "Colliery"? Which is basically a coal mine and would make sense coming from PA.

I don't have the card in-hand yet. I'll post more details if I can make out the writing when I receive the card.

It is or should be Collins-McCarthy the maker of Zeenuts...although that second word first letter looks like an H...

Thanks! It has a SMALL crease through the face area, but it's hardly noticeable, especially in a picture. It also has a small stain-type mark on the top, but again, hardly noticeable.

I have been taught to buy the card, not the grade. VERY happy with this, especially for the price.

Haven't posted since spring, pretty much no activity... this was an accidental pickup that hit two milestones:

It says Collins-Hencke Candy Co. (part of the "Co." at the end is cut off so it looks funny)

They were the successors to Collins-McCarthy Candy Co.

rhettyeakley 09-28-2016 11:04 PM

Prior to any Zeenut cards it was actually the Getleson-Collins Co.

Some time prior to 1911 it had become the Collins-McCarthy Candy Co (I have a 1911 Zeenut w/ the C-McC back stamp and later was Collins-Hencke
