Thanks yeah the 57 and 62 were both from MattyC, he has a great eye. I haven't seen a nicer one for the grade in either case. I don't have any that I hadn't shared elsewhere but thought I should add something to this new Mantle thread.

The first Mantle I ever bought was a Red Heart. I really love the image of a happy, youthful Mick. Very excited to have upgraded it with this Heritage win:

I know, I know, they must have spotted SOMETHING on the backside to give it "just" the 96 MINT. Grading, after all, involves the whole card, and not just the most important front side. Regardless Dave, even better than the near-perfect centering are the outstanding colors and picture registry. In the coin world, as I remember they term that "a perfect strike", which this Mantle blasts out of the park!!! As Maurice Chevalier said in that wonderful Disney movie, In Search of the Castaways, ENZHOY IT!:D Thanks for sharing this masterpiece Red Heart Mickey Mantle with us. ---Brian Powell |
Fantastic Mantles, guys!!
The thing that gets me about the cards Bob posts, like the signed '52 Topps, is... where the hell does he find these?? :) Here's a Mantle from the collection http://i.imgur.com/piMi5F0.jpg http://i.imgur.com/MJX8yWp.jpg |
Great card Chuck!
Nice 51 Bowman Mantle.
|
That signed contract is really cool, and I don't remember seeing a nicer psa 2 51 Mantle.

The '54 Red Heart previously shown was wonderful. All of the posts in this thread were great to view. I got this Bowman example from a local guy who pulled it from a pack as a kid. A true story.

Finally got Mick out of the cube he had been in for over 25 yrs.
Pics/scans look much better now imo. (sorry about the Mays, I didn't think to take singles when I freed them both from their cubes) |

You guys make me wistful - so many Mantles I don't own anymore. Here's one that hasn't been shown yet...pardon the water damage, adds "character". (went to another board member recently but I don't think he'd mind me posting it).

Thanks, guys, for the comments on the '51B. No creases and, yep, the stain on the back brought it down to the G grade.
Those do look much better, irv. Nice pair! That signed duo looks amazing, Bob! That '64 Venezuelan is a great card, Matt. |
CW, your 1951 Mantle Rookie just simply LOOKS better than 99% of them.
Yes including sevens, sixes, and fives. What an AWESOME and unique card you have there. |
Great Rawlings Premium Paul :)

Some really nice Mantles shown guys. I'm not much into autographs, but the '51 Bowman and '52 Topps autographed cards are sure nice. |

I don't know how wise it would be to follow my stock tips: 'Instead of re-investing your dividends, use them to purchase cardboard.' I will say that Mantles appear to hold their value more than many stocks. . |

Here is my Mint 55 Bowman. I would call it Gem Mint except for the barely noticeable speck of paper loss on the back.:D

I have always seen the Phillies Cigar Mantle referred to as a 1961 issue. Is that wrong? You say 1963.

Phillies Cigars
I looked at both of my boxes--the advertisement for the gloves/photos is on the back of each of these--but unfortunately no dates are present anywhere on them.

They are much whiter in hand but I can't figure out how to get them to look better? Not a card but a pic of my Uncle Sam with Mickey Mantle at a 1958 World Series game. (For those that haven't seen it?) |

Thanks for the kind words though. As the 'ole sales-saying goes, it's nice for the grade. FYI, would love to have an even nicer one but they are getting way out there nowadays. Quote:

That's a great pickup. Amazing centering!

Nice pickup Leon and congrats to all amazing Mantle owners in this thread. Wish I still had my Hunters Mantle I bought from Verkman back in the day. Oh well. So, will the trend continue to go up to like Roger Maris, Pete Rose, Mike Schmidt, Cal Ripken, etc... OR down to Joe DiMaggio, Lou Gehrig, Ty Cobb, Babe Ruth, Wajo, etc...?

Congrats Leon very nice card!

Leon, have you become a deserter? That (nice!) '52 mantle doesn't look like a pre-War card to me!! :D

Leon, she's a beauty. It presents well. Defintely you'll get everyone glancing at it when they walk by. Pat yourself on the back, you did well.
|
Leon- I'm glad you got one you like and could afford.
It's weird that I just bought another Ruth and another Wagner, but couldn't even consider trying for a '52T Mantle...something's wrong there. oh well.... . |
