Incredible

These are a few that are important to me.....

After owning a half dozen types of Matty's, I decided the only one that fit my eye was the 1910 W-UNC. Took 3 years to locate an example I could purchase.

http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...pscncseasl.jpg

I generally don't like cards that look beaten, can't tell you exactly why this 14' Cracker Jack Big Train works for me - it just does. I love the wear....

http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...CJwjohnson.jpg

This Ruth is easily my favourite image of his.

http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...OxfordRuth.jpg

Always wanted something really early that spoke of baseball's beginnings.

http://i917.photobucket.com/albums/a...arryWright.jpg

And the card that started my vintage interest.

I don't really have one "mega-Card" as the centerpiece of my collection but my Zeenut card collection is definitely the Centerpiece of the collection. Hard to scan over 2,700 different cards but here are some highlights...

Wow, Dean. Just wow. Are those beautiful! Incredible eye appeal. That's my favorite Ruth, and I hope to own one very soon.

I always love seeing these kinds of topics. They bring out the little kid in me.

My Walter Johnson is still the centerpiece of my collection.

Awesome cards Rhett.

I love the Arbuckle card!! How many different horizontal Zeenuts are there?

Not to ask too many questions, but how close are you to completing all the Zeenut sets?

I'm more of a set collector, so it's harder to pick one card. I look for front/back combos that don't come up too often, and it's fun to take them out and see the result of all the time (way too much :D) that I have put into searching. I took a couple pics when I visited my safe deposit box today.

If I had to pick one card as the centerpiece, it might be my e95 Cobb.

There are 4 horizontal Zeenuts, one for each year from 1911 to 1914.

I am still missing the 1912 Baker card but here are the other 3...

What a great Cobb!! My wife and I both collect together. Some of our best times have been involving the hobby.

Great stuff all!

Even in baseball I can't really make a choice because I don't have a marquee card. But prewar it would have to be one of these:

1920s Universal Surprise Box Ruth-Johnson-Sisler-Alexander:

http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...20baseball.jpg

Ty Cobb strip made with Exhibit PC art:

pre-war centerpiece ? Okay .

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...ENBERG_NEW.JPG

....not very clean nor bright but for some reason this Canadian 1936 World Wide Gum Hank is my thirties centerpiece ; what's weird is that this is possibly the smallest card I own ; my focus has always been "the big stuff" , from 1929 Kashin up to 1939 salutation exhibits and all the big-ass "R" cards in between.........but this little guy is the one that makes me smile...

Sweet Jesus that Shag is a beaut.

ls7plus 08-10-2016 03:52 PM

Great cards everyone. Sorry, no scanner, but would be very hard to pick just one. Among the possibilities would be the following:

(1) 1907 Dietsche Fielding Pose Ty Cobb

(2) 1907 Wolverine News Cobb portrait

(3) 1939 V351 Ted Williams

(4) 1939 R303A Ted Williams

(5) 1923 Lections Babe Ruth

(6) 1931-32 Exhibit Ruth

(7) 1953-54 Briggs Willie Mays

(8) 1926-29 Exhibit Postcard back Jimmie Foxx

(9) 1955 Exhibit Postcard Back Mickey Mantle

The history of the game you can hold right in your hands!

Best to all,

Larry

Hi John
I will consider it. :)
Had the moons not aligned, and Heritage had my collection for sale at the time, I never could have afforded it. It is a big purchase (to me) which I have not regretted for a second. There some fantastic cards in this thread and thanks to everyone who has shared.
PS...dreaming about cards is not healthy, though I bet every hardcore collector on this board has done it!!

Raymond, the colors and the clarity on your 1933 Goudey Babe Ruth are truly at the top of the spectrum---spectacular, bro! A genuine Sultan of Swat home run of a card.

I would list a couple of my own mega-card favorites---but I don't know how to load up an image; my tech support son is sleeping off his shift. Besides, they're POST-WAR-1980 anyway. However, to quote a word from our Leon Luckey, they are most assuredly NOT "pedestrian".:D

Great, tough card of a truly great slugger, Mike. SABR's projections for him have him at 502 lifetime HR's, had he not missed 4 years to the war, and perhaps his lifetime BA could have been around .320 (instead of .313?) as well?

Thanks for showing it,

Larry
