Unbelievable
The Historic Run continues... John |
Curry breaks the single season record for 3-pointers made with 288. There's 24 games left! At 5 per game, he's on pace to hit 400+. 46-51-46 in three consecutive road games, to quote LeBron, "he is ridiculous".
|
You would think someone would figure out SOMETHING that could disrupt his rhythm.

These are the glory days for us long suffering members of the Dub Nation. I usually see about 15 - 20 Dub games a year in person and now a days the hi light takes place during pre game when Steph does his shooting and dribbling routines... I noticed over the last year or so...he's starting to stretch out his shooting range during warm ups......I guess he was really working to use it in games... he doesn't jump high...but he doesn't have to... he has a perfect hand release...the ball come out and rises quickly....by the time it's out of his hands...its way up over the defender's hands... Picking him up before he crosses mid court is really not going to do much unless you have the quickness to stay with him because he can cross people up with his dribble and go by them...or either Draymond or Bogut can come over to that side of the court and set a pick and roll and he will have the ball in his hands heading full steam down the other way. I think the best teams that have had success with him is to really body him..bang him around and make him work. That ofcourse is easier said than done....

Not me:eek: |
What's going to come into play now, as the season gets near the end, how much rest will Coach Kerr give these players?
San Antonio is now 30-0 at home. John |

For all the hype and the (deserved) Curry mania, the Spurs are all of 2 1/2 games behind them.

My dad used to say, you have good days and bad days.
The Warriors did not have a good day. Give a little credit to the lakers, I also think they got caught up in the farewell of Kobe. John |

I think you fire Steve Kerr and then put Curry and Klay Thompson/Green on blast that they will be next if they lay another egg like this--you know, to keep them motivated.

These guys are damn good, bar none, and really fun to watch. Maybe they get 73, maybe they don't, but they're the defending champs until someone else dethrones them. |

i do think last year the Clippers would of beaten them if they played them...not saying the clippers are the best team but they match up well against G.S. and of course the spurs too this year. |
When one looks at the NBA standings this year, one can't help but think that the league has finally achieved "parity" as evidenced by the competitive balance.
The Laker win is just icing on the cake.:rolleyes: It is really a shame that only 16 teams will make the playoffs.:rolleyes::rolleyes: :D:D:D:D |

68-7 after a comeback, OT , road win against a team desperately needing the W to keep its playoff hopes alive. Don't wanna jinx it, but I think tonight's game was maybe the last, biggest hurdle to clear, and 73 looks very likely now. Now they're one win closer and can still lose two (Spurs + 1) to achieve the record. |
103-96 with an overtime win over the Jazz. The franchise record with their 68th win of the season. They host the visiting Celtics on Friday night.
Still chasing History, and getting ever so close. The Warriors are 36-0 at home. San Antonio is 38-0 at home. espn tonight, vs. the Celtics. John |
The Celtics with a nice win over the Warriors.
The Regular season Home streak is over. They have to win five of their last six games to break the record. 22 turnovers last night. San Antonio is 39-0 at home, still have to face the Warriors one last time. John |
watch out for San Antonio, the Warriors seem awful cocky.....
|
The Warriors are back on track.
136-111 over portland, their home winning streak has started again. They'll attempt to be the second team to win 70 games in a single season in NBA history. John |
69-9
not too shabby...
I still see 72/73 wins. JMO DS |

I need to check if the Bulls in their big year lost to such a bad team records wise. Plus 2 losses at home now by G.S....still super team but we talking about comparing them to that Bulls team...... |
73 won't happen...no way they beat the Spurs in San Antonio.
|
The Warriors lose to the Timberwolves in overtime, 124-117.
They have lost their last 2 of 3 at Oracle. 4 games left, two with San Antonio. They Host the Spurs on Thursday night. John |

The Warriors with a win over San Antonio. 3 games to go, one in San Antonio, where they have not lost all year. john |

Whatever. To me it's meaningless. The regular season, especially in the NBA where half the league makes the playoffs, is pretty meaningless. Half of those wins were against horrible teams whose seasons were over and could not have cared less and just wanted to get it over with. If Curry et al can win back to back titles, that will be something significant.

Bulls
Didnt the '96 Bulls lose 2 games at home? Although I dont expect it I certainly think the Warriors are capable of beating SA at home. Heck, the Warriors are almost unbeatable against the best teams in the NBA. It is a good thing they wont be facing the Lakers or Timberwolves in the first round.

I looked it up after I posted, looks like they tied the Cubs record of 116 wins, although with 10 more losses. I see your point, but I think there is more significance to this record as it breaks the Bulls record with Jordan.
More people would remember those Mariners had they won the series. |

I agree with you on this point, if Golden State loses one of their final three games, and fail to best the 95-96 Bulls, it will dampen their spirits. Even if they best the record, but do not win the championship, they may be remembered as an anomaly like the 2001 Mariners. However, I do not see a team that can beat them in a seven game series with home court. |

The Warriors grind it out against Memphis.
Still Chasing History. Draymond Green with a great game. Two games to go. At San Antonio tonight, April 10th. NBA TV at 7:00.M. EST, enjoy John |

You cant say this era is easier than back in the day just like that...there are far better european players on teams that were not playing in the 50s to 80s and far less in the 90s compared to today...there were no tony parkers, dirk norwiski, ginoobli etc...given the same opportunites back in the magic days.... |
ironic the op's name is talkingbaseball. even if they get the record and championship they are no way the best team ever. this ain't baseball anyway, you can't compare different eras with all the rule changes.
curry is a freak and god-moding the game right now and opening up everything else for the team. the developers seriously need to nerf his abilities to balance out the game. take out curry and they'd have trouble grinding out a series vs a bottom seed. talk about draymond's swagger that gives the team confidence etc but you need curry's execution to back it up. |
Minute to go, looks like they've ended the 18 year losing streak in SA and tied the Bulls. Gotta give it up to these guys, they're making it really tough at the end of the year by losing to lesser teams, but keep stepping up against the top teams. Last game at home is no gimme, but think most didn't give them a shot to run the table after that Twolves loss.
Lots are making the argument that their players need rest, but Curry's minutes have been pretty moderate all year (he's sat like a dozen or more 4th quarters, and all the guys that needed to get healthy are back (Festus, Bogut, Iguadola). I actually think going for the record, as opposed to sitting guys, will help them by keeping them sharp. I'd rather enter the playoffs having won "must win" type games, as opposed to playing out the final month on cruise control. No matter what, this has been a fun ride. |
The Golden State Warriors with an inspired win. They end their streak of 33 regular season losses at San Antonio. They have tied the Bulls with 72 wins, Wednesday against Memphis at Oracle for the all time record.
also,34 road wins. John |
I'm glad I was wrong about tonight's game...definitely surprised me!

I am reluctant to dismiss what the Warriors have done the past two seasons with a "Back in my day..." hand wave. That isn't to say they are better than the great dynasties of NBA past, but they also have a superstar doing things no one else in the history of the game has ever done. The Warriors use the three-point shot like no other dynasty in the history of the league.
Curry is the first player ever to shoot 50% from the field, 40% on three pointers, 90% from the line and lead the league in scoring. Curry was the first player ever to hit 300 three pointers in league history, and be broke the 400 mark before any other player in the history of the league ever got to 300 three pointers in a season. I am old enough to remember prime Larry Bird and what a feared, deadly three-pointer shooter he was. In Bird's greatest three-point shooting season, he still made less than 25 percent of the three-pointers Curry made this season. Curry has made more three-pointers over the past two seasons than Larry Bird made in his entire career. That's how the game has evolved, and the Warriors take advantage of that better than anyone else. The four greatest seasons in terms of three-point field goals made in a season are three seasons by Steph Curry and one by Klay Thompson. IMO, it is difficult to justify that the current Warriors team would not belong on the court with any of the great teams of the past when they are so proficient at perfecting the modern NBA game of an offense that exploits the three-point shot. |
Curry is phenomenal. Best pure outside shooter I can remember since Reggie Miller. Congratulations on winning 73! I'll be pulling for you guys in the playoffs.

Re- comments about how they play, and have taken advantage of the 3 (among other great things they do-- pass unselfishly, rebound, play strong D) like no other team before them... I've heard the suggestion that the NBA move the 3 point line out further to balance things out. Funny thing is, if they did so, it would probably just benefit the Warriors more. At one point this season, Steph was hitting over 60% of his shots from 28 feet or more, including half courters. I don't think Klay minds shooting from 30 feet either. Unreal. |

Pre 1800? I would have no idea. Pud Galvin? |
73 wins is incredible, no matter how you cut it. But for this season to be truly "one for the ages", they need to carry that dominance over to the playoffs, and win it all. The '95-'96 Bulls that won 72 games only lost one game in the first three rounds of the playoffs, and went 15-3 overall in winning the NBA Championship.

... But pitching yes, is Chesbro for post 1900, Old Hoss Radbourn has pre-1900 mark. I'm pretty sure I've seen Hoss's listed anywhere from 61 down to 58. Think it's officially 59 now. Old Hoss also liked to flip the bird whenever he got the shot. Seemed quite the character. |
