Hey guys, I just picked it up from clean sweep. They did ship very fast. It came in a padded envelope and I was disappointed it wasn't in a cardboard box which would not have cost more. Big smile when it was opened to undamaged! Very happy!

Extremely lucky... No excuse for packaging a rare item with that little protection :confused:

Picked up this awesome 1925 photo of a semi-pro team from Rockland, Maine.

Back row, second player from left is George Francis "Squanto" Wilson, who appeared in 1 game for Boston and 5 games for Detroit in his major league career. Not sure about the other players, I will have to do some research. There is some writing on the back, listing the players, but it is kind of hard to read.

I think I just filled a very tough hole in my Maine collection.

If anyone recognizes other players, feel free to let me know.

It is an old picture so one of them has to be Joe Jackson.;)

Time travel must be real because the guy in the back row with the headband sure looks like a young Joe Mantegna.:eek:

On a serious note that is a great addition to your Maine player collection.

Hahaha. I don't even know what Joe Jackson looks like. I would probably look right past him in an old photo.

Nothing really big, but I have a game used baseball from Phil Niekro's 250th career win. I have been searching for a ticket or a stub from that game for a while now. I happened to find a lot of 25 stubs from the game on Ebay.

I think I read (in SABR?) that he was not a Native American, but he got that nickname at Bowdoin or something like that.
But he was from Old Town, Maine, and there is a high population of Penobscots there, so maybe? I have no idea.

Picked up this Yogi Berra 1949 GU All Star bat. By far the best pick up I've ever had.

Been a little bored with the hobby lately so started buying bats of six players that I enjoyed watching when I was a kid... Recently added this cool Ellis Burks, and a monster Mo Vaughn

That's a gorgeous bat Ron! And nice bats as well to Dave...I have thought going into the used bats collecting field,...but haven't made the jump yet...cool start!

My latest Joe D pickup
 

San Francisco newspaper from July 18, 1941. Not sure if you can see it in the compressed photo, but in the top left corner, Joe DiMaggio "blames" Ken Keltner for stopping some nice hit streak he had going. :)

Thanks to Ben for pointing this auction out to me.
I also got the paper from the day before, where ironically, all they seem to care about is Joe facing Bob Feller the day after, and whether Bob can stop the streak.

Interesting scorecard circa 1900 for a benefit game that was played to help the family of a player who had been killed during a game just 12 days earlier. Joseph Marsh was struck in the head as he batted in a game on September 3, 1900. He died 10 minutes later. This scorecard is dated in pencil on the back September 15, 1900.

1948 World Series Pass for the Hollenden Hotel. It was the luxury hotel at the time in Cleveland. I do not know what the goings on at the time were that required a pass to the hotel.
The back of the pass is blank but it measures 4.5 inches by 3 inches larger than i imagined when purchasing it.

1931 Louisville Lathe Bat
 

My Maine player collection continues to grow with this addition. A lathe bat for Del Bissonette, who used to play for the Brooklyn Dodgers, I think.
This bat is also stamped with the H&B logo, which is, I am told, very rare in a lathe bat. But I am not a lathe bat expert (in fact, I had to ask the seller what the little nubs were before I bought it), so I have no idea.
Still, a pretty cool little piece of history.
