I mean, really, how can one go wrong with this for $225? :) :) :)

MattyC, you can never have enough nicely centered Ryan rookies in the collection. Nice addition.

horzverti 05-20-2015 10:21 PM

Nice MB Ryan

People must have been sleeping on eBay! That card usually goes for high dollars! Awesome score!

I rarely get excited about a purchase like I am about this one. The writing, to me anyway, makes this a really special card:

Cool shirt, Jason. I like how the facsimile signature is accurate to the original. :)

Great signed Mantle, Greg!

Cool Venezuelen Mick, Chris!

Hope everyone had a nice, long weekend. Back to the grind...

MattyC 05-25-2015 06:13 PM

Those swooping 'M''s of his on the auto always catch the eye. Guys sure don't sign like that these days!

The local Target has Catfish Hunter and Juan Marichal t-shirts.

Took a couple of months off buying cards in order to take the family to Disney World. Also sold a couple of really nice sets on here that funded the entire trip. My wife will never curse my baseball card hobby collection again. LOL

Any way..........picked up this '58 Topps WS Batting Foes card to ad to my Aaron collection. Also picked up this 1951 Bowman Warren Spahn.

jason.1969 05-26-2015 01:31 PM

That Aaron/Mantle is one of my favorites, and yours is a helluva specimen. Two of the greatest sluggers ever, at the top of their games and going head to head in the World Series! Off hand, I can't even think of a parallel.

MattyC 05-26-2015 02:29 PM

Good God that Mick/Aaron is amazing. Wanna SELL??? ;)

That Spahn and the 50 are both big on my list. Great image.

jason.1969 05-26-2015 03:02 PM

It's funny reading the back of the Mantle/Aaron. Topps surmised that the Mick might someday pass Ruth when in fact it was the guy standing right next to him. (Or if the focus was single season, a Cleveland Indians RC in that same set.)

There's a sighting of one of the biggest cards one could get-- and a real nice looking one at that! Props.

Another mid grade Spahn pick up. What would his legend be if he were a Yankee ? Glad he was a Brave though !

pokerplyr80 05-27-2015 10:30 AM

Thanks matt, definitely the biggest card in my collection although I can think of a couple in yours I'd love to add one day.

jb67 05-27-2015 11:27 AM

Congrats on the Bowman Mantle rookie. That is a dream card. Maybe some day I will land a nicely centered one. Words cannot do it justice when describing.

Just added my first Ryan rookie to my collection. I had been looking to get a nice looking mid-grade example for while and finally landed this one.

http://www.collectorfocus.com/images...an-ryan-rookie

MattyC 05-27-2015 11:36 AM

Awesomeness JB. In my opinion the Ryan/Koosman RC is the biggest card of the 1960s and thereafter.

GregC 05-27-2015 11:46 AM

A Ryan and a Mantle RC? This thread just got hot. Great stuff.

pokerplyr80 05-27-2015 11:56 AM

That ryan looks great for the grade. Hard to find centered left to right.

Exhibitman 05-27-2015 12:51 PM

Very nice stuff, guys!

The Mantle RC is really nice.

I looked at that 1964 VTopps Mantle and decided not to buy it, fortunately for you; that seller had some very reasonable BINs and he FedExed the cards up from Venezuela, which was a nice surprise. I picked up the Retirado Ford he listed.

pawpawdiv9 05-27-2015 02:29 PM

Holy DOnkey SHit! (as the pre-war guys say)
Cant go wrong with that 51 Mantle!!! Amazing job on it!
Not to leave out that Aaron/Mick, centered very good! great catch!!!
And the Nolan Ryan, one day i will eventually find mine :)

Hammerin'Hank 05-27-2015 02:47 PM

That is the best centering on a Ryan rookie that I have ever seen.

MattyC 05-27-2015 03:31 PM

Speaking of Nolans...

Just got the new one in hand; def looks like a MB version mislabeled, which is cool! Here's the group/family shot (a product of hoarding and leaping at any centered ones I happen across over the years).

begsu1013 05-27-2015 03:47 PM

yes, since we cant see the flip (smiley face), I assume it is an earlier version flip wise. don't think psa started designating until 2007ish, I believe...

I think if you want to send it to them they will correct it at no charge...

Thanks Adam. I am glad you did not pull the trigger as I love the card. I have a PSA Authentic up on eBay now if you are still looking to add one (shameless plug).

begsu1013 05-27-2015 06:39 PM

jb,

not sure how I skipped over your ryan rook but good job on that one as well! sometimes if i'm not logged in, it wont show photos, anyways...

and zero tilt to boot.

Thanks everyone for the comments on the Ryan rookie. Feels good to finally have it in the collection.

jason.1969 05-28-2015 08:12 PM

There seem to be some print marks (or worse) near the bottom, but I wasn't too worried at $3. One of the few 1976 Topps HOFers I didn't have yet.

Could not agree more with you on this one.

KingFisk are you a Tigers fan? Couple of nice rookies you have picked up.

jason.1969 05-30-2015 02:46 PM

Not much of a budget this month, so here comes a big step down from the Mantle and Ryan rooks we've seen in this thread...

I am slowly completing a collection of the top 60 or so players from this set, entirely for sentimental reasons.

Jason, the Leflore card brings back memories when he first joined the Tigers. If I remember correctly he had done some time in prison. Growing up in Michigan he was a big deal back in the day.

jason.1969 05-30-2015 04:17 PM

I remember watching "The Ron Leflore Story" as a kid. Yep, prison, I think it was armed robbery.

Thanks, JB! Actually a Phillies fan, just happened to pick up two Tigers legends in the same week. I was after the Freehan for awhile - one of the overlooked greats of the game, truly. Not many 11 time All Stars that are becoming lost to history...

Dude, if you "upgrade" that I am ready to take it off your hands. I'd consider it an "upgrade" to a PSA 7 I once owned!

jb67 06-01-2015 10:25 AM

Sign me up for that Clemente. Awesome looking for the grade.
