Nice T205. Very crisp image on front.

Here are first postings to this page. I am usually a 1950s/1960s guy but came across some prices I couldn't pass up.

My pickups from the last Philly Show and the start to a new set...needed something a little more mellow/common to look for while at shows.

Got this from Goodwin, I thought great price (for a PSA in this), maybe just a fluke.

Hi Rhett, thanks for the information, I hadn't thought of wrapping the team card around the chocolate, that is intriguing. The team cards are about the same thickness as the e99/e100s, slightly thinner than a T206.

This came Wednesday. From the research I have done (albeit it may not be as thorough as some) it is the only one I could find in existence. Not sure if this pre-dates his e90-1 or the Colgan Chips, but I think this is the earliest known image of Joe Jackson (bottom right corner) on a "card", per se.
Thanks, Greg |
Sweet pickup, Greg...congrats!
|
Greg:
I looked for that W601 w/Jackson for a long time with no luck, it's one of my favorites. I don't mean to scare you but there are a lot of repro's out there of W601's, you might want to check yours closely to make sure that it is authentic. Depending on your source for picking it up, you may not need to worry. I have no reason to think that it's not good, no way to tell from a scan though. |

None of the Sporting Life Team Composites are easy, but the ones from the later years (1907 on) are extremely difficult to find when compared to their earlier sets (1902-06). Congrats on a great pickup. |

I am way behind on scanning but want to share some fun additions to my modest but growing Pre-War St. Louis collection. All cards in the first group were purchased from board members (thanks!) the T206 Dineen is my first Old Mill back.

Got a couple cards I've been after for awhile. Super excited about the Joss, and the Brown is deceptively tough. I sold my creased copy over a year ago, and it took me until now to find one in nice condition that wasn't way overpriced.
The Isbell is by far the nicest 2 I've ever seen. I don't really understand how it graded so low, but I love it. Can't stop looking at it. |

OT, but......
Twenty page 1912 Pittsburgh Pirates scorecard (vs Cincinnati). One business advertising in the piece, A Mamaux and Son, is still in business. A picture of a player in an oval in the middle of every page outside the scorecard itself. The cover (complete with staples) and the first two pages are presented here: |
Nice scorecard
Cool piece Brian. Your reference to the business A. Mamaux & Son as still existing in business got me to wondering if Pirates pitcher Al Mamaux was a relative of that family--turns out he was the "son", or at least one of them. Didn't know if you knew that, but I'm always interested in learning about the guys in my favorite set, so thanks.

Thank you for solving that mystery for me because I didn't know if Al Mamaux was related to the business, but did know he was born in Pittsburgh. The piece predates his stint with the Pirates. |
