Upgrade for my Lundy back run. Also my first Bullet Bill. I went to his high school and dated his grand daughter for many years so I got close to the family and met "Mr. Dudley" through them.

Some of these are from late December but I just got them scanned. I bought the Mathews for my wife to give me as a Christmas present, had her pay me for it, and then got to unwrap it a few days later. I thought that worked out well.

Nice pick ups, Kenny!

So, when your wife wants her next piece of jewelry, will you reciprocate! :D

Kenny Cole 01-10-2015 07:15 PM

Kevin,

She already has more than enough jewelry. But I'd rather buy that than some of the purses she likes. :(

I'm thrilled to have grabbed this PC 760 The Rose Company Postcard of George Gibson to start the year. It had been on my want list for years and I had pretty much given up on ever getting one. Think I saw 3 for sale in 30 years.

I also like the fact that it is postally used with a Pittsburg, PA postmark dated February 17, 1910.

I'm sure Richard will enjoy seeing it as well.

Hey Brian, I'll "see" your Gassler's Bread pickups and "raise" you this Gassler's HOFer! Now then, about that W504 card of Sam Rice that you surely want to sell/trade me ...!!! :D

There is an interesting story about this Gassler's card I just received in today's mail for my Sam Rice collection. Last February, I learned that Gasoline Alley Antiques of Seattle, WA, had several Gassler's Bread cards for sale, including a Sam Rice. I contacted them, we agreed a price, and I sent my payment. A few weeks later, Gasoline Alley refunded my payment with the explanation that they cannot find their Gassler's cards - the last time they saw them was when they did a show some weeks earlier - they further explained that if I saw how disorganized their inventory of antiques and collectibles was, I would understand why they couldn't locate the cards - the proprietor promised to let me know when they eventually found the cards, but he did not want to hold my payment indefinitely. Since then, I contacted Gasoline Alley once, during the summer - no luck - they still hadn't found their Gassler's cards. As weeks turned into months, I pretty much lost hope for ever obtaining this card. Then, on December 24th, when I checked my new emails, I had one from Gasoline Alley that reads "Hello Val and Merry Christmas! While cleaning up for our annual Christmas party we found the box with the missing Gassler's Bread cards. We do have the RICE card. We can still honor your offer of $xxx including the insured shipping."

Willis Hudlin R 314 " Wide Pens " Borderless , A Type 3

http://imagehost.vendio.com/a/204295...LINPSA_NEW.JPG

...They get the flip wrong or incomplete about 20-30 % of the time , no matter what you print , in large letters , with exclamation points , on the submission form.....they got the year right though . And it is a Goudey Premium .

...And despite the tiny script in the font on the facsimile signature , it is one of the '' Wide Pens ''...So my Willis Hudlin Master Set is one card closer to completion....

..

MikeGarcia 01-18-2015 09:55 AM

For Example

....there's slightly wrong , and then there's really really wrong and then there's " WHAT THE HELL IS THIS ?? ".........but on the bright side , they '' Fix It For Free "....and so my stack of Joe O. Vouchers grows yet higher. I am a patient man...

Nice haul Rhett!, your eye for seeking out tougher items across so many different card sets/issues is impressive. There are certainly tougher OJs, but you don't see these everyday.

That's a tough one. It's really all about the buyer. I've seen autographs of DiMaggio sell roughly for $100-$200 range. Now the card is another story. I've seen vintage cards autographed sell in the $500 range in that era. It's tough to give you a price. But still a nice piece for the collection.

Sweet Joe D Robby. My guess is this would get at least $700, or more. A pretty well worn raw '39 PB Dimaggio, with a faint pencil signature got nearly $600 recently.

Thanks a lot guys. Appreciate the help. Great card though.I was just wondering a price because I haven't seen any originals signed. Just reprints. But thanks itsjclarke for letting me know about the '39 Playball. That's great to hear

Mike, Frank & Derek - Many thanks for the kind words re my latest pickup for my Sam Rice collection. I have been incredibly fortunate to have picked up several very tough Rice cards over the last 12 months or so.

Darrin & Chris - Your spectacular Speakers are special eye candy!

Raymond - I really like your WaJo pickups. But then, I've never seen a WaJo card I didn't like! Be careful - collecting WaJos can become addictive!

Lots of other fabulous pickups this month! The monthly pickup threads have always been and will always be among my absolute favorite threads!
