How'd I miss this thread? Might as well put my Diaz in the pile.
Only missing Phil Bedgood, Pete Donohue and Guy Morton to complete the Cleveland Indians subset http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=15637http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=15638http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=15639 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=15640http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=15641http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=15642 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=16496http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=15643 http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=6527http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=11213http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7565http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...pictureid=7454 |

Minnie Minoso
A year ago I had the opportunity to get an autograph from Minnie Minoso. I printed out a photo and had him sign it. I also took a few pictures at the signing.

Just got this pair of complete sets in really nice shape. These are not as easy to find as you may think.

Very nice, Tom. The '78 set is especially tough.

Tom - sorry I bid you up on both of those. As Phil said, the '78 set is particularly hard ... But the '74 is loaded with HOFers! Congrats on the pick-ups! |
You're killing me Derek.
I hope the rest are as nice as the ones he showed. Tom C |

Cuban Baseball thru the years

Thought that I would bump this one back up to the top, anybody pick up any interesting Negro/Cuban League items lately? Besides the recently ended Hake's Auction, there seems to be a very dry period of Negro League material right now.......
|
I won the Spottswood Poles RPPC in Hakes and it will hopefully arrive soon. Other than that, I agree that it's been sort of slow lately.

Congrats on winning that amazing "Black Ty Cobb" card, Kenny!! I won the ca. 1916 Judy Johnson RPPC.

Watched that one to the end. Nice pick up. |
Thank you, Joe.

Beautiful Stuff!

Great pick-ups on the Poles & Johnson postcards, guys. Another HOF'er off the list, huh, Ken?

Thanks guys. I appreciate it.

Thanks Phil and Anthony - and you too, Derek (not for bidding me up, but for the kind words, haha)! And Kenny - hope you and your's are safe from the tornadoes rolling through OK tonight. Just a lot of rain here, in Spfd., MO.
|
And to think, I had that Judy Johnson postcard at one time, bought it for $900 and sold it for around $500 (not one of my wisest moves). Guess I should have given it to Hake's for auction. I should note, this was all well before the Merkin collection hit the market............

I just grabbed these: 1) 1945-46 Caramelo Deportivo (Felices) #72 Ray Berres NY Giants 2) 1943 Cigarrera Bigott #189 Santiago Rondon of Gavilanes Pitcher 3) 1952-53 Victoria Jorge Lopez of Habana Infielder 4) 1946-47 Sport Kings (Propagandas Montiel) #54 Paul M Derringer *None PSA* Cincinnati Reds 5) 1950-51 Toleteros Al Cihoki Mayaguez 6) 1943 La Ambrosia Carlos Torres of Cardenas 3rd Base Cards are paper thin, and the backs are all very clean. Very happy with the Buy-It-Now option on the lot I got them with. |
John,
#2 is from the 1943 Cigarrera Bigott set issued in Venezuela. #3 is from the 1952-53 Victoria set issued in Cuba. #4 is from Cuba. #5 on your list "1950-51 Toleteros" is actually a 1951-52 Denia card issued in Puerto Rico. Considerably more rare than Toleteros. #6 is from Cuba. -Ryan |

I recent pick up of an unappreciated figure in baseball history. Mike Gonzalez (on the right in this La Campana premium) was a fair player with a long playing tenure. But he is ignored as the first Latino manager as he served a couple of interm stints with the Cardinals in the 1930's. Rumored, by Willie Wells, to have been a light skinned black man

1945-46 Martin Dihigo postcard
1 Attachment(s)
Elected to the MLB Hall of Fame by the Negro League Committee in 1977, Martin Dihigo (top row, center) is also in the Halls of Fame of Cuba (elected in 1951), Mexico (1964), and the Dominican Republic (2010). This rare postcard pictures Dihigo with his 1945-46 Cuban Winter League champion Cienfuegos team along with teammates that included Sal Maglie, Nap Reyes, Connie Marrero, Luis Tiant, Alejandro Crespo, and manager Adolfo Luque.
