Name is not well registered and in a big scan makes me feel drunk (not a bad thing) but the centering was far too exceptional to let that get in the way. In hand will be less of an issue as well.

Matty, that's a sweet jax RC. I don't collect high grade or slabbed but I got very lucky and pulled this from a collection I purchased from the original collector:

http://photos.imageevent.com/exhibit...%20Jackson.jpg

My scan doesn't look as good as the card. I'd call it ex-mt but pretty well centered for the issue. Not bad for a few bucks...

MattyC 10-16-2014 09:49 AM

Adam, Reggies centered like that are quite uncommon. The 69s in general have a huge tilt problem. Great score. The deep color on yours is just outstanding.

GregC 10-17-2014 06:57 AM

October has been a really strong month around here. Great picks ups all around.

MattyC 10-18-2014 12:12 AM

Some nice low grades and the raw that popped now in slabs. Also, that raw Reggie came in the mail and is now at PSA. The color in hand was way better than the scan. Looks like a solid 7 with outside shot at a 7.5 or 8, depending on the luck.

This little 65 Mick PSA 3 is actually one of my favorite cards in my collection, alongside the PSA 2.5 53B. I found it raw at my local shop and the centering just blew me away. Love that card. I just can't find 65 Micks with that centering.

The Ricky is a real misgrade; should be am 8.5 or 9 but they killed it on that one glaring PD in the black. The corners are real sharp and centering's nice. Overall a nice card.

Sean laced me with the Yogi and Bob mad cheap so could not resist.

I just got these in, my first auction win from Brockelman & Luckey (hi Leon). Super fast delivery. Thanks to Scott and Leon both.

These are real beauties, and well centered. These are absolutely beautiful, imo.

Great pickup on those 53 Bowmans. I don't think I could tire of looking at any card in that set. Remarkable. Good job!

MattyC 10-18-2014 07:48 PM

When 53B's are centered like that they are as beautiful to look at as any set ever made.

1962 Babe green tint, a tough '69 white letter in vg and a particularly nice '71 Nashy blob.

Bill congrats on winning the 53 Bowmans. Very nice looking cards for the grades.

After a long drought it seems, I am very, very, very, pleased to add a prized piece to my RC collection. It is not in great shape, but there are very few around. This is his 'true rookie' card.

Congrats; awesome piece. Don't see those in every collection, that's for sure. Really happy for you!

Chris what a way to end a drought! Congrats on the Dimaggio rookie.

Very nice pick up Chris!

Finally picked up an iconic card from 1962.

Zeenut DiMaggio

Nice "DeMaggio" (sic) Zeenut, Chris! I had my eye on that one to see how it would do at auction. Not a bad price for that card with no obnoxious creases and wioth such great registration.

Congrats!

This was the last card I needed for my basic '61 set. Two more remaining for the master set. Centering is a bit off from my normal tolerance, but I'm happy with this one.

Thanks man, I guess Xmas came early for me, I was not totally sure if i would grab it. What kept me in was the pure fact H&S sold one last week (sgc10) for 3k (which i was a underbidder on)..so i relaized what price range i needed to be in, and i was right at it, knowing it reach 2k, another reason i had bumped it that afternoon. It wil be one of the key cards to my RC collection and a nice investment indeed.
Ian(our prewar board member) bumped the price a few times later on and had a good shot. I consider myself lucky. So today i bought lottery tickets (Mega Million and PowerBall) one for 110 mill and the other for 200 mill.
:D

BTW @Gregr2: Nice 55 Ted, i been searching for a RC Koufax as well.

gregr2 10-21-2014 04:32 PM

Thanks Chris, I've been trying to pickup some of the greats from the 50s recently.

I feel bad now Chris, because I probably cost you several hundred dollars! As said on the other pre war board, I was so so so close to punching one more bid. Had the total with BP calc'd out to $10 less, I may have, but it was right at that next round number ($3K) and I held back.

I guess these are my consolation prizes this month--
including one of the other Joe D "rookies"-

Awesome autos.

And man does that Star Wars figure bring back memories from childhood! Doesn't a piece like that cost thousands? Good vibes!

@Ian:
Dont worry Ian. it happens. MattyC may been the only one to know i was going after it.
Yeah, I am going for RC's, and this one was out of my data range i am normal doing.
Just some cards appeal to me than others. Thats why i have not sealed the deal on a Banks or Ryan Rc yet i guess. I do like your B&W dimmagio alot and it appeals to me more than say that Yogi RC. Call me weird, maybe thats why Koufax is like last on my list.
Some people got addictions, mine is cardboard cards.

itjclarke 10-22-2014 09:08 PM

Matt- not thousands.. yet:D Anyway, loaded up on bid bucks and a beer, I figured I'd grab one before the next triology releases and a whole new generation is sucked in for life. These figures are crazy nostalgic for me too. I grew up on those movies and toys in a way that even pre-dates baseball (saw the Star Wars re-release in theater at about 2).

Chris- I really like the '36 premium Dimaggio too. Great, weird/toothy grin of his.. and can see why it became a good cartoon. Think he's about 21, but may as well be 14. Am also not a huge fan of '48 Bowmans, but do like them signed.

Still trying to finish off my 1964 Topps Set. I'm down to only 61 cards missing. I thought the Rose would be one my 1st additions but it turned out being one my last. Man, is that card tough to get in NRMT or better at a decent price. The Brock is a little off center but the corners are razor shop and the price was right.

brob28 10-23-2014 03:22 PM

Nice pickups Russ. I've always liked that set.

JollyElm 10-23-2014 06:20 PM

The '64 Topps set has always puzzled me. They did a great job by having the players' hats, mitts, etc., alone break into the white part of the card. A very cool effect. Lou Brock and Pete Rose are perfect examples. But then you have cards like the Billy Williams, whose head falls short of the top border, and you gotta ask why didn't he get the same treatment? If they were worried about the bat sort of interfering, for instance, they could have tilted the picture a little more to allow his hat to effectively cross into the white. I dunno, just some weird design choices.

Thanks. Yes and no. I just look for nice ones when they come available at a decent price. I've been focusing primarily on the 5th & 6th series...

Hammerin'Hank 10-24-2014 01:42 PM

I love the 1971 Topps set and have always liked how they look in a SGC display case with the back on black borders.

That is a set I'd like to complete one day.

I know it is not a card but I am very excited to get this awesome item.

I usually do not collect autographs but when I seen this listed for sale on our great forum I had to buy it. It is from my hometown. I knew we had a minor league team in 1994 but did not know we did from 1965-70. We had a Phillies A ball team from 65-68 and a Cubs A ball team in 69 & 70. Manny Trillo and Greg Luzinski played here in 68 and Rick Reuschel played here in 70. With out finding this great item I might not have ever known about us having minor league teams for those 6 years from 65-70.

Shoebox 10-27-2014 05:19 PM

My B&L Auction purchase has arrived. This was the lot I was most pleased to get as I didn't have a card from this issue.

1954 Topps Scoop unopened pack

Not sure if you can classify this as non-sports only but there are some sports figures in the set so I posted it here. I went looking for a Ruth and came across this pack. The professionals at GAI labeled as a 1951 but it's a 1954. I have an empty wax box on the way. I would like to build a set in the future along with opening this pack...very tempting. :D
