54 Mays
Chris---there are 2 versions of that card. Yours is the scarcer of the two

Al- i iddidnt even know this. What is/are the 2 differences? I am currently trying to find info. Something tells me it has to do with the thingy on the arm.
I have read about a Candian version and also about how some backs are flip up-side-down |

Most reprints use the picture on the right but the 2003 Topps Heritage Certified Autograph Issue uses the card on the left. |
Since I seem to be all about the 'green tints' lately, here are a few graded guys I picked up…

Just completed my standard Mick run- Bowman and Topps 1951-1969 (excluding all Topps' specialty ones- AS, MVP, etc.). I may venture out into the dog food trading card world eventually (so many examples available!), but for now mission (spanning 1994-2014) is complete.
Attachment 161893 I also personally concur to the previously mentioned scarcity of well centered Micks, as only 1 of 26 (including a couple dupes and a couple AS/MVP examples) is 50/50 centered- 1967 Topps. I think this probably applies to most other cards/players from these years too. I'm personally not bugged by OC cards, especially when looks good to me otherwise, but it does seem pricing for centered examples is skyrocketing. Makes me wish I'd gotten lucky on at least one or two more of the prior 26, not as much for personal taste, but so I could sell it for big bucks and buy a clean OC example and then some :D BTW- love the Bird! |
Congrats on finishing the Mick run. That 54 is sweet looking. A little OC has never bothered me. Especially with vintage.
|
Major props on finishing the Mick run. I am one card away and pumped to join you in completion.

Thanks guys. As a kid Mantles were always the centerpiece(s) in local shops' displays and I spent many days dreaming of getting my hands on one, any one! I lucked into my first 3, trading/buying them for peanuts from friends who weren't too attached to Dad's hand me downs. I never would've considered a run when I started, but it definitely aided the cause when eBay came along and most of those $250 card shop "near mint" '68 Micks became $70 "EX+" Micks.:D
Matt- your collection is amazing. It would be fun to see our runs side by side.. two completely different styles, though I presume equally loved at home. Dustin- I'm in the same boat with regards to centering.. with an added plus being- OC's aren't nearly as rough on the wallet. BTW, love the avatar. Somewhere buried away, I have a Cubs spring training program from Hohocam Stadium with a rookie Ty Griffin's auto... and probably have 3 binder pages of that Olympic card too. |
Steve,
Thanks for the response. I see you are a fan of Furillo. I am in the process of obtaining every main issue(Topps, Bowman) card produced of this great, underappreciated and misunderstood player. Only have a few to go. I got this 54 Bowman off eBay for what I considered to be a very good price considering the card's condition and centering. I will try to add a few of the other Furillo's that I have obtained in the last year. Thanks again. Duane |

Jackie
I like the centering on your Jackie. Picked this up, one of the best "6"s I've ever seen:

Thanks, it's my first Jackie card.
|
This 4 just came to join his brothers-- but it looks like my brother will be getting the beautiful SGC 4.5; at least it stays in the family...

Nice '57 Hodges.

I agree on the 57 Hodges looking better than a 6. That is a very nice looking card for a 6. Great pickup.

My pickups...
This month's theme is yellow...
http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...0/88Feller.jpg http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p...hroneberry.jpg There's a very interesting story about this last card. 18 months ago I was sniped in an ebay auction for this EXACT card. I mean, the same. Same PSA number. So when it came up for sale this month...there was no way I was going to let it go. And the best part...I bought it for 20 bucks LESS than what it sold for the first time around. So I guess it was worth the wait... http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p.../319Walker.jpg |

bobc88 That is a great looking Pee Wee Reese congrats adding that one to your collection. Also love the 52 yellows.
Picked up this Bench card today at a local card show. The guy took a double take when I handed it to him. I think his partner may have marked this one down without his knowledge. I have been looking for a decently centered one for a long time and finally found one for a great price of 5.00. I am going to get it graded hope it comes back at least a 6. Is it just me or is that card extremely difficult to find decently centered? |
Feller
Brian-- the Feller is a Variant...slats, no slats, partial slats
|
Al, is that your Hocus Focus partial set in REA this fall?

Is one variant scarcer than another, or is like the Boone color variations? |

Really happy with this Carew..
Attachment 162481 .. also picked up signed Fisk and Yount Attachment 162482 Attachment 162483 |
Hocus and feller
Not my Hocus Focus. Have not seen the REA Catalog but heard they were going to have some 55s ?
The Feller card usually has some pretty visible slats. In some the slats are less visible on one side ( that looks like what you posted), and in a few the slats are hardly visible on the entire card ( hardest one to find) |

Picked up this cool 1961 Fleer fingerprint card last night from the auction section. I now have 5 different ones. Yes I collect weird stuff.:D

BEAUTIFUL autographed rookies up there.........
|
Some nice 1952,1953,1953B raw from a seller and a group of (5) auto 1952 from Stinsonsports. The autos mostly included the original letter and return envelope from the sender who did the original auto request. Kind of neat.

Hate to keep going on in the Pickups thread, but if you guys (Al and Dave) want to go in on the lot (not sure if you guys need any of the cards), I'd love to get my hands on that Jackie!
