Who knew that Howie Camnitz had a tattoo on his back?

Hi guys, I was wondering if this is genuine from the Vermont find. I was expecting something more like a cabinet, this is more like a photo. I have never seen one in person, but it is such a great image. Any advice is appreciated.
|
Without holding it in my hand I would say the back looks too new and the image appears to be a photograph of a photograph .

I picked these up at a flea market in West Virgina last weekend. It's been years since I have been able to find anything like this other than the internet.

Guys, I just read through the tread from Oct. 2004. I did not know what my previous posted image could stir up, and glad it has not yet. Please ignore my request for advice. Suffice to say, it is what it is, and it didn't cost much, and it looks nice to me.
Here is the other one I got, I changed some of the scan settings so the image would show up better, it stinks to try and scan in a Beckett holder, I get so much reflection of the scanner light. It is not really that dark in hand, and the holder has scratches. It is graded "A", I just gotta wonder why would anyone trim off the bottom of such a cool item (rhetorical question). |

just one card...

after failing to get this T214a few months back, I was able to trade for it in late august and received it about a week or so ago.
|
Mark, congrats on this fantastic pickup!! Super scarce/truly rare cards such as this one are the ones I get the most thrill out of having in my collection. I watched this T214 Jennings languish on eBay for what seemed like forever, until the seller got more realistic with his price, at which point I would have jumped on it if I didn't already have a couple of T214s - but mine are not as nice as this one.

Not a card but a photo. Picked this up last night and figured it would be appreciated here as well as on the memorabilia side.

Thank you, Derek, for this great Fred Clarke! Marty, thank you for the wonderful Roger Bresnahan, and thanks to Ryan for Bill Bergen. That's pretty cool. Thanks for the info. Does that mean anything towards collectibility or desirability? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I would say no. If there is a significant portion of the (Same) name, there are some that will pay a premium. If it's a different name, even a sliver, there will be a premium. |
New arrivals, Misters Red Ames (portrait), Harry McIntyre (Brooklyn) and Chief Myers (batting). Thanks again, Tom!

Nice T206 pickups Bill. I have always really liked the Bergen batting pose, it was my second T206 and remains one of my favorites.

Of the many cards I love in '49 Bowman, this is probably only second to the Paige for me. The pose, the colors, almost like an Andy Warhol. An Andy Warhol Andy Seminick! Got it in the mail today

Another late scanning of late August pickups - these are from a board member with help from an esteemed moderator.:):) Thank you both.
While each one has an issue or three, the color, registration and eye appeal is generally really good... these scans don't do them justice. Mostly Broadleaf backs, with a couple of Anonymous ones. http://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...psdf59f98e.jpghttp://i186.photobucket.com/albums/x...ps4a2800d2.jpg -- Mike |

I found this old baseball cabinet of Thomas J. Donovan. He made it to the bigs in 1901. This cabinet would have been from his 1887-1888 seasons with the Meriden Bulldogs in the Connecticut State League.

I love looking thru all these pickups.
Jon, You outbid me on the double name Abbaticchio. The MC makes them a little more affordable. |

Thanks Todd - I am now up to 30 Mendelsohn's with this one...
|
Nice card Chris. As they say, parting is such
|
Great image on that Fletcher!
|
hmmm....
|
email sent Scott :-)
|
Chris - you know I doctored the photo (added the M101-6 lettering, modified the coloring to match the card).
The photo itself is an original 1917 Mendelsohn print - 4.75 x 6.5, shown unadulterated on the Memorabilia side. |
That Holke is wonderful. Hold off if you can Scott, if only for awhile, as Chris is relentless. Makes Red from "The Blacklist" look like a piker.
|
Thanks Todd - here is the actual scan of the print.

Just verified that this is also a Mendelsohn - it's glued to a mount which I have separated enough to see Mendelsohn's stamp on the verso. Probably also 1917 |
You are killin me Scott...
|
me too. Scott, don't know if you're aware that Holke is one of the very few m101-6s that shows him captioned with two teams, although the same photo was used. That photo was taken when he was with the Giants, not the Braves.
|
I don't know anything about M101's - I just collect photos and Mendelsohn was one of the better photographers. But thanks for that information.
Just finished removing the photo from a more modern mount - here's the stampings on the verso - you can see where there used to be a Sporting News archive stamp, which someone removed so that the photo would lie flat on the mount (it's thin and curls). The Holke has Mendelsohn's embossment at the lower right - no stamps on the back. |

Nice group there, the Giants cards and especially the Senators cards are quite rare............. |
Phil,
Thank you. Yes, the Giants and Senators are tough. The five cards I wanted were: 1) Goslin 2) (a tie) Kelly and Groh 4) Youngs and 5) Hoyt, which this lot included two. |

I just received the e101 and I received the e90-1 last month thanks to a trade with another member, but never got it scanned in until I was doing the e101 last night. The other's aren't new pick-ups but I like to keep them together.:D
