T205 Cobb
Yeah the back has some paper missing but I can live with it!!
Matt |
That T205 Cobb has a clean white baseball and no red on the basepaths as well. So many have that red ink shifted over. Great call picking that up.

Type set additions
My winnings from the most recent Bagger's Auction just arrived today...thanks Dave!

A little OT. I bought this because of the picture and I because this gentleman-and he was a gentleman-was the only pre-WWII ballplayer I ever met.
|
Two pickups with the last of my ebay bucks...R303-b Simmons and a duplicate W554 McWeeny I picked up thinking I still needed one (oops)

Black Swamp Find Mack Miscut
This finally arrived today. To me this card is Gem Mint, I am just glad that SGC gave it a technical grade of "Good" so that I could afford it. Factory errors, to me, shouldn't be counted against the grade of a card (especially to the extent it was with this card).
I don't have time to scan, and HA has great scans already so I will just use theirs: http://dyn2.heritagestatic.com/lf?se...oduct.chain%5Dhttp://dyn1.heritagestatic.com/lf?se...oduct.chain%5D |

That Black Swamp Find card is sweet.
|
That e98 is incredible! The Mack is by far my favorite in the set. Nice pickup!

From the Lawson's Game--the very first baseball card game, so it's said. This is one of the rarest cards in the set. 1884. I guess this makes this my oldest card.

For the record I have owned several sets and all of the cards are exactly equal in rarity, in my experiences. We might even have a nice raw set in our upcoming auction, as we have before. |
Leon in the set there are multiple cards of some, like the Striker and some cards are solo like the Umpire.
|
Leon, according to Pop reports (which I know don't represent all cards) the "Striker" card (which I also have) and one other appear in dozens of copies, all of the others only a handful at PSA and another handful at SGC... so from that, yes, there are two "commons" and the rest about equally scarce..

Here's the Striker, of which we speak, by far the most common in the set...

Beautiful Red!
Andy, Your Mack is incredible and I echo everyone else's comments on it.
Awesome Card! Really neat to see that Ford was above Mack on the sheet! Way Cool! Tim Kindler |
That Tinker makes me think of him Carey from the second Ace Ventura movie.

As many of you are aware, two of my major collecting focuses are WaJo cards and Sam Rice Cards. And, you may have seen my recent, ecstatic post in the LOTG Auction pick-up thread where I showed the 1921 Herpolsheimer's WaJo 1-of-1 card that I won in the LOTG Auction that ended a week ago.
Well, guess what - a couple of days after my WaJo post, I received an email from a Net 54 Board member (whom I didn't know, but whom happens to live roughly 25 miles from me) asking if I would be interested in purchasing his 1921 Herpolsheimer's 1-of-1 card of Sam Rice (and, at a reasonable price!). I could hardly believe my eyes as I read this email. Would I be interested - heck, I'd kill for this card, so to speak! I put my check into the mail on Thursday, and the Herps-Rice arrived in today's mail. Are Board members great, or what?!! Bruce, again, MANY THANKS! I keep pinching myself to make sure that I am not merely dreaming that within a week's time, I have picked up two cards that I never, ever expected that I would be able to obtain. 2014 is already a great year, irregardless (sorry, but I've long used this "incorrect" word) of whether or not I add anything else to my collections for the remainder of this year! Val |
congrats Val on some "true" 1 of a kinds!!!:D
|
Ok Val, now you're just showing off! Amazing.

Usually don't show my pickups but ...

Thanks to Chris Buckler for working a deal on the Baker & Jones from Joe's Vintage last auction. Now there's an auction house who knows how to do it. Ended Tues. night, invoice on Wed. morn (pd. Wed). Received card on Fri. No buyer's premium and $3 for postage. Screw the big AH, I'll stick with these guys!

Great job Val Glad to have met you 3 years ago at the National at Leon's Table. |

Seriously, Pete, John, Leon, Jason and Frank, many thanks for the kind comments. You guys and many other Board members have brought me so much pleasure and made this hobby so much more fun for me ever since I found Net 54, which was around the time I retired in 2007 and began having more time to enjoy my hobby. BEST to ALL, Val |

Now have fewer than 100 to get. Also grabbed another 40, but then found out I already had it. I guess this is where it starts getting tough:

Congrats Val! Keep up having a great year! peter |
That Cobb run is amazing, downright breathtaking, Congrats
|
Great postcard, Paul, that's a really tough one to find.
Are you still going after all of the BB HOF RC's? |
Phil, I guess I'd say I collect rookie HOFers but I'm not really going after all of them. The Baltimore Ruth and the Just So Young are a bit beyond my expectations.

I never intended to go for the whole SF Seal team, but am now only a handful short. Mohler is coming courtesy of Sterling.
Attachment 132406 ... also never intended to go for a Duffy back run, but I guess I am by default after picking this off the BST (no way I'm chasing the biggies though) Attachment 132408 |
Ian, how am I supposed to buy any cards if you keep swooping them up??? ;)
Nice cards, man! I'm beginning to like those OBAKS more and more. |

My T206 Gibson back run was completed for all of two hours thanks to that card. The day I got what I thought was the last card I needed was the day REA made the announcement about that card in an upcoming auction. I have been pretending it doesn't exist ever since ;) Cheers, Richard. |
Thanks guys!
Richard, I've really enjoyed watching you build your Gibson collection. An awesome accomplish. |
