four more 1934 Gold Medal Foods
My 4th Cardinal and first 3 Tigers. Paid slightly more than I usually do for the Goslin and Frisch, but made up for it by finding deals on the Bridges and White.

This Gehrig is one tough, and pricy card. Made easier by buying a partial collection from the York Guru hisself, (hi Scot) but still this one will $low me down awhile... I need to get it into a SGC slab where the contrast of b/w will pop nicely. No scan with a baggie can do much justice to the card  Hey, its only July 4th and some of the pickups here are firecrackin' hot! |

Jeremy, now that you have that Pooles stamp, maybe its time to let go of the McCormick one?

Finally landed the '41 DP Slaughter/Mize. Been wanting that one for a LONG time. I'm probably most excited that I don't have to watch the overpriced cut one, that has been a staple on ebay for close to 2 years, anymore.. Also, landed this one for 60% of the price that, the cut-guy wanted...
Also added 2 of these '34 Quaker Oats Ask Me cards. A question on each side. One has a question on the 1845 Knickerbockers/Ruth's 60 HR season on reverse. The other is about Ruth's record for BB's in a season/the last "triple-header" in 1920 on reverse. I was intrigued by the triple-header. Surprising, after looking it up, there have been THREE in the history of professional baseball.. |
Glad you like it Greg. It is a nice one.

........R-314 Type 2... full border but no '' Litho In USA'' down in the LR corner...from the 1936 Goudey Premiums ( ''Wide Pens'' )..... I believe Greenberg is the only player to appear in all five types.... anyone know of any others ? It would have to be a Detroit Tigers player , I assume , in order to get into the Type 5 R314's . PS I'm always looking to upgrade my ratty's so just let me know if you need money and you have a better one of these.. Thanks , MikeGarcia |

Went to an auction last Saturday and won this guy's entire collection of baseball cards. I swear the guy had to have had over one hundred thousand cards. Have been attempting to organize them ever since and separate the junk cards from the ones with some value, but its been taking me forever as you can imagine. He had boxes upon boxes of baseball cards.
The auction had other stuff too of course, but I used all of my spending money on the cards so I left shortly after, I'll let you guys know if I find anything rare or worth any money after I'm done sorting the cards out. |
I posted this in the Small Traditions pick-up thread, but just received it today. I registered for this auction after reading Leon's Net54 blast email and seeing this card.

Super super psyched on these (my inspiration to buy these has been the signed Goudeys often posted by Brent-HOF Auto Rookies and Sean-Milkinit), and they arrived today. Thank you Irwin Fletcher (classic movie) for working with me on several levels.. I'm gonna be treating myself to these, opening one at at time over the next couple weeks. ADDING: really need to cut into spending but there's just too much great stuff out there!!

Diamond Stars
Thanks guys.. and to Sean, I've drooled over your posts showing pages of signed Goudeys. Those helped reignite my original collecting passion as a kid, getting cheap cards signed at shows by Mays/Gibson/Brock/Musial/etc (still have 'em all). :D
I also love the Gehringer sig, and cool horizontal pose. The "Mechanical Man" had perfectly mechanical penmanship. Really excited about the Dickey also, it's just such a clean image and sig. |

Two 1870s companion CdVs in outstanding condition. Tipton MA is printed on the reverses as the home of photographer Ross, yet I can not find a Tipton MA. Odd.

After receiving a little assistance, I've come to the conclusion the CdVs originated in Tipton, Missouri. The fancy script on the reverse of the CdVs looked like "Ma" to me, but after looking at it with a loupe, I believe it reads "Mo" for Missouri.
|
Great signed Diamond Stars. Terrific way to get well within the possible set...
|
Great D304! Love that image; one of my favorite cards of all time. Pretty low pop, too, for a HOFer of that stature.
This is on the way. Can't believe I was able to score one in any condition. From The Streak to Marilyn, Joe D will forever be ingrained in American popular culture. I have always thought this card way undervalued, and "on deck" to grow (with some other HOFers) once the massive run on Ruth cards peaks. http://www.collectorfocus.com/images...oe-dimaggio-rc |

MattyC:
Great pickup on the DiMaggio. What a beautiful example! I agree with you that it is a seriously undervalued card..he's one of the few truly iconic players.
Why does the card only have a 2 grade? Is there back damage? The front looks amazing for the grade- m |
Thanks. Yes, some damage on back; I just love it when you can find an old card with a great front and the eye appeal of a much higher-grade card, and it's low grade (and affordable) because of the back.
To think the same quality image with no back damage would cost insane $$$$, it makes lower grade cards with no front damage like treasure finds to me. Joltin' Joe has only 8 more career Ks than HR, which is staggering; he K'd only 13 times during his MVP season in 1941! It really amazes me how when you look at career stats, especially percentage stats and not counting stats, how elite Gehrig and Joe D were. Couple those numbers with their records (Joe's "56" still standing), then factor in their cultural significance (Gehrig's speech, Joe's marriage to Monroe) and I can only see the hobby one day recognizing all that, in terms of their cards rising in value. It is also shocking that only relatively lately do we see the greatest player and biggest name of all-- Ruth-- achieving huge card values (namely the performance of the Balt News and the RC). Sometimes I just surf around baseball-reference.com and my jaw never ceases to drop seeing how many categories Ruth tops. |

Sweet pick-up, Sean! I'm headed to my only Cubs series of the season this weekend at Coors Field with my son. I'll proudly sport my Cubs Sandberg #23 jersey...along with about 20,000 other Cub fans that usually go to the Coors games!
Take Care, Geno |

Very nice pick-up, Jimi. If I'm not mistaken, that's the exact same grade as mine received from Beckett.

Beckett has different grading specials each month, a couple of times they've had something like 10 or 15 business days @ $10 a piece which covers the regular grading cost. There is an additional surcharge for the oversize holders, as of my last submission it was $8.00 per. I'm not sure if it has changed recently or not. I beleive that you can download a submission form from their website and the pricing is all spelled out on there. Beckett is also very good about sticking to the time frames that are promised, they almost never run behind schedule. |
