the Mailman bringing some goodness today.. 1916 Police Gazette Supplement of George Sisler. Yes, it looks like hell at the bottom and it's laminated, but I rarely see these, and the price was right...

"Clever Utility Expert, and One of the Best Allaround Ballplayers in the Country" Amazing, as he was a rookie in 1915 (played about 1/2 a season) so 1916 was his first full season and he was already being touted as one of the best! Neat item, congrats! |
Dave - fantastic item! That's the first time I've ever seen that "card" before!!

Thanks guys..

It's still not quite as cool as that 1914 Michigan program you have though.. |

Signed 1933 Goudeys
Picked up these 1933 Goudeys for my signed pre-war collection. The cards are pretty beat, but the signatures are nice.

May Pickups
I stopped by a card shop in Brookville, Indiana today to look around. I found a T206 Clark Griffith Sweet Cap back and T202 Tri-Fold Grant / Hoblitzel to add to my Reds collection in great condition. These will be going to SGC shortly for grading. Another perfect example that cards are still out there and it was fun talking about the hobby to a long time store owner. You never know what you are going to come across.
Happy Collecting. |

Not a Highlander/Yankee, but there isn't one in the set, and it's a classic picture. http://www.net54baseball.com/picture...ictureid=11266 |
Some fantastic cards posted on this page! Congrats, guys!

Jersey City Cards
Quote:
I have notes that say Harry Lyons also has an N172 with Jersey City. I haven't seen one personally. Have you? Or do you know for certain it does not exist? Kevin |
Quote:
I guess that is a new one, the list I was going off is very old. I'm guessing the Lyons, which does exist, might even be tougher than the Holbert |

Nice Cobb, Dean.

Raymond Brown

I was excited to receive this Hall of Famer's card in the mail today. I know that Brown began his career in 1930, and his playing career ended not to long after this Carmello Deportivo card was issued. Does anyone know if there are any earlier cards of Raymond Brown?
Best regards, Joe |

Just picked up my first signed T206 (in an SGC holder) a couple weeks ago. I'm probably going to break it out of the holder tonight and put it in my binder. I just like the way they all look (in the binder)!

Nice Jamie! Congrats.
Did they put it in a clear sleeve before slabbing, looks like there's something clear in there. If so, never seen SGC do that before. Nice card for sure. |
Thanks Guys..
Mike.. yes the cobb has a protective plastic around it.. SGC said it would be help ensure the card would not be damaged during the reholder process. I was up for what ever gave me the best chance of holdering the card without damage so i said ok. |

Seymour..
SGC said that heat and pressure are part of the holdering process.. not a problem for the majority of cards... but very rarely... for cards that have layers of paper loss...as such with the corner on my cobb lenox.. if the paper loss is severe enough, causing the paper to be much thinner then normal.. the card could be damaged while being holdered....So SGC will have reservations about holdering such a card....especially if it is an expensive card.. The plastic helps to protect the card from the holdering process (heat and pressure) as they described it to me... They strongly recommended it based on the condition of the Cobb...and I went with their recommendation.. as the card didn't get damaged during the process I am happy I followed their advice. SGC has a great bunch of guys working there. Really top of the line..my advice is just let them be the judge and follow what advice they give... when it comes to should a card be holdered or not due to how flimsy the card may be. |
Quote:
Wow, Jamie, thanks for sharing. That is very interesting... sounds like you made a good decision under the circumstances. Congrats on the crossover. |

Great pickups, everybody. I am very much enjoying this thread! :)

Just back from SGC today, I picked up these two raw on ebay not too long ago. The Elberfeld came back about what I expected, and I am very pleased with the grade on the Chase to say the least. :)
