Well that's a pretty big GREAT!

Of the one's you don't have, how many do you know exist?

milkit1 02-24-2013 02:04 PM

They all exist minus earl clarke whom probably doesnt. He died in 37 and was a minor leaguer mostly.I have johnny welch whom was the third to die in the set.

RGold 02-24-2013 02:11 PM

Fantastic autographed Goudey cards! I especially like the ones signed before World War II.

You deserve a quadruple smiley for that collection. :D:D:D:D

milkit1 02-24-2013 02:25 PM

Thanks ronald! I would guess I have about fifty signed before ww2. I got all the players who were alive post 1988 through the mail. In fact I had so many 30s cards signed that if you have a signed thirties card of someone who died post 88 theres a good chance I was the one that got them. At one time I had twenty signed willis hudlin 33s :o

freakhappy 02-24-2013 02:27 PM

awesome thread

Sean, great stash of autos!!! You and Ron have a lot to be proud of with your collections, that's for sure!

Congrats to both of you!

RGold 02-24-2013 02:34 PM

They are both common, but I love Gehringer and Terry autographs if you have them to show here.

Which are your favorites?

Do you happen to know a simple way to find the date of death for the players sorted in order(too lazy to look them all up).

I attached some pics. For some reason I dont have one of the terry's scanned but the other and the gehringer are in there. I always liked the Benton card and hes tough as he died in 1950. Also Earl Whitehill as he was the first deceased one I ever bought ?(off Gar Miller in 1989 for $50 which was crazy money then!). :)

Also, if I can ever find the Luke Sewell standing card signed I will have every player that died back to Dizzy Dean or 1974. Thats the next goal I hope to accomplish :)

Just looking at tat list I think Fred Frankhouse was the first player i got through the mail to pass away so i probably really got started in early 1989

RGold 02-24-2013 03:20 PM

Thanks for the list! Great, great collection.

milkit1 02-24-2013 03:21 PM

yeah I dont have a scan of his earlier throwing card but i do have it. They are somewhat common so Ill keep an eye out for ya if I see one come up :)

Gehringer's signature is so classic and always perfectly consistent. I have his and the rest of the '35 Tigers on team signed ball (incl. Goslin, Greenberg, Cochrane), but wish I had some of those on Goudeys as well.

Sean- Great cards and that list is a keeper that I will "save" for sure. I probably have about 40+ auto. 1933s. I do have the Al Simmons, but he is one of my favorite players, would like to get a Foxx someday. I know I have a L. Sewell port, which I assume you don't need, can look for the other one. Would be quite a challenge to put together the Yankee team set. Fun stuff
Rich

Sean,

I gotta say that of all the collections I have seen on this site, your signed Goudey collection is probably my favorite!

I ran across some real ones and thought I should grab one just for fun. 1933 Goudey Travis Jackson was the first pre-war card I bought and launched me into pre-war collecting. I collected all the hofers (minus Lajoie and the 2nd Gehrig) in 09, 10, and 11. Then last summer I decided to go for the rest of the set.

As usual I'm in the raw "fair/good/vg" neighborhood

I'm now 15 shy for the set (counting Lajoie and a 2nd Gehrig) and my list of hofers to upgrade is at 16.

here's a photo with the Manush upgrade I just received from Jason in front of my hall of fame cheese box.

Love the wooden drawers Tony! In addition to collecting cardboard, I dabble in woodworking and I'm actually in the design phase of designing and building a desk that I'm going to incorporate small apothecary style drawers into like you have, to store cards in. I’m pretty excited about project and your pictures have provided a little extra motivation.

Thanks Mark,
I really love the shallow drawers for displaying the cards. I also love the glass fronts on most of the drawers in my cabinet http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...55#post1083855

Rich you know I'm going to be bugging you now for a trade :)
Thanks tony! That cabinet is very classy btw. I have most of my cards in Tupperware containers lol

GoudeyJim 02-25-2013 05:59 PM

Love the signed Goudeys. Absolutely amazing! I am always on the lookout for a signed Hubbell or Goslin as these are my two favorite cards in the set. I imagine there are a few Hubbells out there but I haven't seen a Goslin.

Great cards Sean! I remember a couple of years ago, a poster asked about our wish lists, I made mine and then you had those cards (& they were signed!!!)
Congratulations on a fantastic collection.

Sean.
Did Joe Cronin sign that card twice?

Jim

milkit1 02-26-2013 06:24 AM

I think for some reason his wife might have signed it for him and then he signed it. Very weird as the top one doesnt look right. I have two signed this way.

Here is my '33 Gehringer, '33 Terry and '34 Terry. I only collect HOF signed Goudey's as I had stated on the first page of the post, and my collection can't even touch Sean's lol.

If intersted, I have several more on my website: www.hofautorookies.com

Thanks! Well you do have a gehrig which is more then I can say! Ill have to tally up how many hofers I have. Brb

milkit1 02-26-2013 03:14 PM

Looks like I've got forty signed 33 hofers. Unfortunately only seven of those passed away before 1970 so I still have a loooong way to go : /
24 to be exact

I have 23 HOF signed Goudey's, including dupes, nothing too difficult other than Cochrane maybe. Well, my Gehrig is an DeLong (though it's much tougher for a signed DeLong than Goudey ;))

milkit1 02-26-2013 03:54 PM

Awesome! That is killer!
If we are including dudes I'm going to have to recalculate ;)

Thank you, I certainly love it. 17 signed HOF'ers no dupes.

milkit1 02-26-2013 06:14 PM

I think the price on the gehrig was killer too. If that had been a goudey idajumped on it. My budget limits me though :)

milkit1 02-26-2013 06:23 PM

how many pre ww2 hof signed cards do you have total? I traded some pretty killer ones in the past to get Goudeys. At one time I had about 20 batter ups and well over 20 35 Goudeys. I loved getting those signed and hopefully those will turn up again for sale

I've been watching it for so long, and I was able to get the funds from selling, and Gehrig signed cards are so fricken scarce, I had to. Would love a '34 signed Gehrig yellow

I believe I have about 50 from 1941 and earlier, a good bulk from Goudey's. if you have any more, please let me know ;). I've been looking to grab a few Batter Ups, those are very neat. Just picked a an Appling signed '34 that graded a 5, and I have a signed '33 Dickey that graded a 5 as well that I got for an absolute steal of $125 on the bay a few years ago

MacDice 02-26-2013 10:33 PM

After seeing all those signed 1933 Goudeys it makes my signed Rick Ferrell that I was going to post pale in comparison. A signed 1933 Averill is #1 on my want list right now...not that I could probably afford one

Averill isn't as much as you think, and please post the Ferrell!

There is a signed 33 Averill on eBay right now (not my auction).

Here it is, not the best scan. I got it in the early 1990's. Looking back, I wish I would have purchased a higher condition card to have him sign it.

Has anyone ever seen or heard of any unopened 33 packs? This has always been a dream find of mine.

That's a good one!

deadballfreaK 03-05-2013 03:14 PM

Great posts and great cards! I have a modest collection. 93 cards. Mid grade mostly with a a few beaters. Several HOFers. This thread is inspiring me to go after more.

Gotta say I much prefer the red banners at the bottom over the ones without. As for the Lajoie I've never had much interest in it. I don't consider it part of either the 33 or 34 set. Sure I'd love to find one in a box of cards, but not something I would pursue.

Canadian World Wide Gum

Here's a couple of the Canadian version. One in English, one bilingual.

GoudeyJim 03-05-2013 06:48 PM

I agree on the Lajoie. If a card wasn't issued with the rest of the cards it shouldn't be considered part of the set. Maybe I feel this way because I'm going after the 33 set and can't afford a Lajoie.:D

I've just started going through a collection that contains about 100 1933 Goudeys, including these signed examples. All autographs were obtained in person in Cooperstown.

RGold 03-12-2013 03:20 PM

Those are really nice. The condition of the cards is exceptionally nice too.

Awesome signed cards! It must have been incredible to get these signatures in person. Any interesting stories while getting the autos?
