Some AB cards are tough; and, other AB cards are less tough. For example, the Del Howard card is a tougher AB (only 2 are graded).
Both of these are PSA 2; and, there are no SGC graded cards of Del Howard. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...psb2f82e07.jpg .. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...ps50dfbfb9.jpg TED Z |

Your Eddie Collins is a real beauty; and, with a well-centered back. Thank you for posting it. PSA has only two AB 350 cards graded (and I am assuming that one of them is yours). SGC has not graded any AB 350 cards of Eddie Collins. I have the 3rd one with an AB 350 back, it is barely Vg (not graded). I have looked for some time to upgrade this Collins card. It is indeed another example of one of the tougher ones with the AB 350 back. Let's see if anyone else here has this Collins ? TED Z |
Hi Ted,
Be careful using "Pop Reports"... I have over 100 AB's graded by PSA but none have the back listed.... I also have quite a few Raw cards... Here are a few: http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...pse14d69c2.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps87eae1ef.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps28afb1ac.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...ps90a929ea.jpg http://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...psea6361fa.jpghttp://i138.photobucket.com/albums/q...pse4482c68.jpg Be well Brian |
Brian, that Duffy is one of the nicest AB I've ever seen. Great card.
|
Green is my favorite color. Maybe that's why AB has always been my favorite back. TOUGH, but not impossible like Uzit or Drum.

Quote:
Brian I know what you mean......I have some cards graded by SGC in their early start-up days that don't appear on their current POP report data. Speaking about SGC grading, maybe you can figure this out (because I cannot). I think my Matty should warrant a "60" and my Gandil a "40" (or "50").....instead of a "60". Both are equally off-center; and, backs are clean on both of these cards. What's your opinion on this ? http://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...yab350x50x.jpghttp://i603.photobucket.com/albums/t...nnbradpelt.jpg Thanks for your consideration, TED Z |
Hi Ted,
I can't answer your questions.... But, I can tell you that PSA has been very tough on AB's for quite sometime... SGC used to be more lenient on centering, but may have changed recently.... I haven't had anything graded in quite sometime.... Be well Brian Thanks Mike.... I bought it raw several years ago.... It's one of my favorites. |

Recently acquired a few more cards for my AMERICAN BEAUTY 460 run. I am 8 cards away from completing this 74-card T206 subset
The two Seymour cards are the result of winning both simultaneously in two different auctions. I didn't want to risk loosing Seymour, so I bid on this card in both auctions that night....figuring on getting one of them....but, to my surprise, I won both. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...ps3d945abc.jpghttp://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...ps6578a4a8.jpg http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...ps1c2f85cf.jpg This Frank Smith (Chicago and Boston) is one of the tougher AB 460 cards to find. I purchased this one for 2 reasons, it is an upgrade in my set.....and, I could not pass it up since it is a double (same) name card. http://i1255.photobucket.com/albums/...ps25dfc625.jpg Hey guys....let's see some more of your AMERICAN BEAUTY's....T205 or T206. Many years ago, a long-time hobby fixture in Ohio told me this. American Beauty white borders came in "8" count packets and American Beauty gold borders came in "10" count packs.
My old friend who educated me on much of these cards was a pleasant old timer named Al Clement. Al was a fixture alongside Geoff Sindelar in the early days of the outstanding Cleveland area/Strongsville Holiday Inn spring show that Fusco Auctions handles now. Well, he had the entire set minus Honus and was extremely knowledgable in those sets and their packs. |

Shown above is the standard (10-cigarette) pack, circa 1910. It's my understanding that the narrower (8-cigarette) American Beauty packs were introduced sometime in 1911. Hence, the Gold-Bordered cards (T205, T42, etc.) were more likely to be inserted in these packs; and, therefore cut thinner. Methinks American Litho started cutting the T206's thinner in anticipation of the narrower AB packs. I have 105 T206's with AB backs....22 - AB 350 frame.... 14 - AB 350 no frame....69 - AB 460. Their widths vary all over the place. This Davy Jones is the "fattest" of my AB cards (exactly the width of a normal T206 card). v.................... 1 7/16" .....................v http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...jones50xab.jpg http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...vyJones25x.jpg I don't claim to be an expert on cigarette packs, so any inputs regarding this topic are welcomed. The significance of the T205 Black American Beauty back
Not many T205 black AMERICAN BEAUTY (AB) cards have been on display in this thread. However, many T205 Green AMERICAN BEAUTY cards have been posted.
T205 subjects with a black AB back are the link to "A-B-C-D" connection. A theory I posted several years ago. I have complete confidence in my A-B-C-D theory. Check it out.... http://www.net54baseball.com/showthr...t=t205+A-B-C-D http://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...genABbk25x.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...Lobert25bx.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...ggins25bxx.jpghttp://photos.imageevent.com/tedzan7...rDRUMx25bx.jpg American Lithographic printed exactly 32 - T205 subjects with this A = B = C = D connection. The key factor in this A = B = C = D equation is the Black AB back. Note that the T205 subjects with Green American Beauty backs will NOT be found with DRUM backs. T205 A-B-C-D checklist......32 subjects James Austin John Bates Beals Becker George Bell William Bergen Russell Blackburne Albert Bridwell Mordecai Brown Harold Chase (border on shirt) Frank Corridon Thomas Downey Louis Evans George Graham (blue signature) Buck Herzog Richard Hoblitzell Miller Huggins Jack Knight A. Latham Thomas Leach John Lobert Briscoe Lord Patrick Moran Frederick Olmstead George Paskert Fred Payne Edward Phelps John Quinn Lewis Richie David Shean George Stone Zach Wheat Harry Wolter The above 5 subjects in bold print have yet to be confirmed with a DRUM back. However, they already have been confirmed with the A - B - C backs. Therefore, I expect these 5 subjects will eventually be discovered with the DRUM back. Hey guys....let's see some more T205 black American Beauty cards. TED Z . |

I was lucky enough to come across the following "marriage" of AB items at a local Flea Market a few years back. I realize that the tin is unrelated; but the "Flea Marketeer" spun such a wonderful tale of BS that I just had to buy...
