My lone recent pre-war pickup, thank you Brian...I also wasted a couple of bucks on a Just So Cy Young re-print. Sure, I could've made one myself, but I'm just lazy..
|
Love the Just So - Young, David.
If you come across a graded one, you know where to find me........ |

The scarcest of the 3 Bresnahan variations and one of the toughest pins to find in the set, "mouth open."
If anyone has a Erwin, Marquard, Needham, O'Leary, Heinie Wagner or Warhop for sale, I'd sure like to complete this set... |

How did SGC rate the Alexander in better shape than the Mathewson?
|

The Matty has writing on the reverse, the Alexander does not. |
Jeff,
I appreciate it because I was just going on the scans available and with the top border on the Alexander and its sides, I had to ask. Very nice pickups. |

1892 Rochester 'in action' albumen
Just got this, and it's already one of my favorites - Sunday, August 2, 1892 game at Seneca Park, Rochester NY, showing a ball hit to third, runners advancing from 1st and 2nd, and the 3rd baseman about to field the ball as the runner approaches.
Also interesting in that the city of Rochester banned baseball (I'm guessing just professional) in 1885, then lifted the ban in 1892. A few years later they banned Sunday games. 6"x10" albumen cabinet had the border trimmed ages ago: |
Amazing cabinet, Scott!

W503.......I really like this series...
|
Scott,
****** UNREAL action shot !!!! ***** It never ceases to amazes me, that 100 ++ years later we all can recognize a baseball play (looks like a tough force out at third). Although I think you have your Rochester "no ball" gap off a few years: According to Baseball Reference, Rochester had no ball between 1881-84. http://www.baseball-reference.com/mi...=NY&country=US Those dates sparked a little neuron in my head cavity, since I always thought Rochester has had the longest continuous season streak of any minor league team (1885-present). Second, I believe, is Winston-Salem (1945-present), but could easily be proven wrong. |
