1954 Baseball All-Star Game pm10 pin
Wow! I have seen some incredible pins - this has been a real treat!
The charm sometimes attracts my eye more than the pin - I didn't really want the pin - as such - but I couldn't resist because of the charm. I just picked this up on ebay. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y20...g?t=1325736510 |

Finally got around to snapping photos of some of my Indians-related pins. Pardon the inclusion of the pencils clips, which aren't pinbacks but could be considered at least not-too-distant cousins.

Impressive collection!! BTW, I was fortunate enough to see Rob's Indians collection in person in December. He's truly put together a spectacular Tribe museum. Congrats again Rob!! :D |
|
BoSox, ALL of our collections began with one or two pins...thank you for posting yours;)
Rob...you have an impressive collection of pins, many of which, I havn't seen before. Here are a few additions I made this week. Thank you to Rick (Oldtix) for making the first two available. The third came from ebay. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...FiQoKmvQ_3.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...BOFiWtfl_3.jpg http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...85OuQ60_12.jpg |

I'm not much into pinbacks, except for those that pertain to the players whose cards I collect. I always thought it strange that the images of WaJo are so different on the 2 Sweet Cap pinbacks. Can anyone tell me if there are any other Pete Runnels pinbacks in existence?
Val |
Does anybody have a "BEAT MUDCAT" pinback, circa 1961? I'd like to get a scan for a write-up based on some stuff I found in Sporting News.
|
I do. Glad to help you.

Question on large size 3 1/2" team pinbacks
3 Attachment(s)
We recently received a group of the larger sized 3 1/2" team pinbacks in consignment for our next auction and not being familiar with them I wanted to post and get a better description of them. I assume these are stadium issued, they appear to be from the late 50's thru the early 70's. No mfg. markings of any kind.
Scott |
Scott,
You are correct in your dates. The MLB logo first appeared in 1969 (the last two pins). The Houston Colt .45s became the Astros in 1965. I can't tell you for sure that any pin is definitely from the 1950s, but it is possible the Cubs pin might be. Paul |
Just added this monster to my collection. I could serve a ribeye and potato on this dandy.

Adam, It does have the easel back and I'm particularly impressed with the condition. Very minimal wear.

A new arrival 3 1/4" 1968 Tigers pin. Not particularly rare and has foxing, but it was super cheap and keeps our thread going;)

Tony,
Very nice collection. Love the yanks are coming and The Grabowski day pin. Boy you could never get away with that pin now! |
your not kidding. It was made for a bus trip out of Schenectady. He was a local guy
|
Great collection Tony...thanks for posting.
Here is my latest and favorite addition to my pinback collection. One of the best aspects of this acquisition is that it comes from a good friend and fellow board member Al (batsballsbases). We had a great time discussing pins in general and this piece in particular before he offered it to me at an extremely fair price. I can’t thank you enough Al:D This pin has been in my sights for years. http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/IMG_2266.jpg |

Al...that is an amazing and exceedingly rare beauty. Thanks for posting. |
Neat thread! Do I have a good pin?

I don't actively collect pins but my father-in-law gave me the pin below a few years ago. He apparently went to the playoffs/world series in 1967 and kept it all these years. It now hangs on my wall...it has a little foxing, but is in good shape otherwise. Diameter is about 3 1/2 inches and the ribbons are attached with "vintage" masking tape. Anyone have any idea how common these are, value, etc.???

Basketball pinback
|
Play-offs didn't begin until 1969. It is a WS pin from 1967 against the Cardinals. They made some great combination pinbacks and ribbons that year. The ribbon really adds to the charm of the pinback. Without foxing (brown spots) I would place the value at $75.

Pins
Finally was able to take a photo of these they stand about 1 foot tall.
Both pins came with the original Dolls that were sold for the 1938 world series. Here is one instance where the items added to the pins or if you prefer the other way around make the item worth more. Note the nice "C" and "NY" on the dolls. |
Those are incredible Al...thank you for posting them::eek:
|
Wow. Very nice
Great pieces.

New additions
It was a terrific week for pinbacks. There are more on the way, but two of these are the most exciting. The Hartnett is a very common pin. The White Sox is a condition rarity for some reason, but not tough to find. The red letter crossed bats Cubs is a pretty scarce pin that I've been waiting years to find. My favorite is the Grimm, which comes via a trade with Andy (thank you my friend:)). I've never had an opportunity to acquire this Charlie Grimm pin. In fact, I don't think I've seen another outside of Paul's book.
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...12052204AM.jpg |
Mike,
I'm so jealous. That Charlie Grimm pin is at the top of my want list. If you ever want to give it up, please let me know. |
It will be here a long time Mike, but thanks.
I just finished this shadow box to feature my new Cubs team pin. I know it's a bit plain, but I wanted a classic look tha didn't detract from the pin. You like? http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...0/IMG_2267.jpg |
Grimm
Hi Mike,
Looks great, I'm glad it's in your collection! Thanks again, -A |
Mike,
Now you need the Certified's Ice Cream pins to place around the 1929 pin! |
I hear you Mike. I only have Hornsby. If you have dupes of the others, I would love a crack at them.
|
pins
Mike,
Looks like you have been a busy boy! The Grimm pin is very nice. I do like the way the cubs team pin came out. Enjoy it my friend. |
Two more Tigers by the tail
:D These just arrived. The 68 is pretty common, but the Briggs Stadium from the 50s is a bit of a challenge...for me at least.
http://i139.photobucket.com/albums/q...12052318PM.jpg |
Quote:
Impressive Mike. That Briggs Stadium is a tough one, doesn't come up too often anymore. You are on a serious roll for pinbacks this month my friend. Adam |
We should probably start a first of the year pinback extravaganza, but I'll give this one another plug with lots that arrived today. The Tiger is an ebay purchase and the other four came from my friend Greg F. (Sayhey24). You should check out his site. Here is a link:
