1938 Goudey Bob Feller Big League Baseball Movies
2 Attachment(s)
Many thanks to net54 board member Mike (docpatlv) who sold me this cool Goudey Bob Feller flip book from 1938. As it states on the cover, "Bob Feller puts his hop on a fast one"! Back from when Feller was one of the most popular players in baseball........

Certainly not prewar, but a great addition to my advanced Nolan Ryan collection.
Trivia question: What's rarer than a Nolan Ryan game used pitcher bat with provenance? A game used batting glove with great use and provenance!! I've only seen one that I recall in all the years I've been collecting Ryan. I just picked up this game used Nolan Ryan batting glove from circa 1982-83. It matches perfectly with photos of him batting while a member of the Houston Astros that I have in my collection. This particular glove came directly from the collection of one of the other most advanced Ryan collectors, where it has resided for many years. Ryan certainly wasn't much of a hitter in his career, but what I believe makes this batting glove special is where it came from, it's use, the fact that it's vintage signed. The best part of all is it was used on his right hand (throwing hand). It will be a great compliment to the Ryan game used Astros bat that he signed for me the night of the grand opening of The Ryan Center (Nolan Ryan museum in Alvin, TX) in April of 1999. :D |
Scott, I'm glad to see this. I thought I had killed the thread by posting photographs that didn't include HOF'ers.

You certainly didn't kill the thread by posting photos of non-HOF'ers! I personally think it's healthy to mix in some modern classics in addition to everything PreWWII. I don't frequently get the opportunity to add anything to my Ryan collection these days. Maybe only a small handful per year... |

I also appreciate nonHOFers. I appreciate all vintage picees and images...keep em coming fellas:)

I thought this 1930s Trolley Car Ad Sign was pretty cool. It's an ad for Wrigley's Double Mint. I'm still trying to figure out why gum would have been used "for emergencies", but liked the Baseball tie-in. The Hack Wilson reference is also cool, as Wrigley's roots have been in Chicago forever....

Nice pick up Dan, any notables on the ball?
|
I don't know..I suppose Ira Hutchinson might be difficult to get since he died in 1973...a few other major leaguers (Alan Brice, Joe Horlen). My first 59 team signed ball though...and finding stuff I don't already have is becoming difficult.

1862 Ice Skates
DUTTON'S SHELL GROOVE SKATES
Below is an unusual old pair of ice skates I picked up yesterday on eBay. You may....(or may not)...wonder what would make me buy these...To learn the shocking truth why I bought them click the link above...hint I looked for them twelve years... <a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=LeftFront.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/LeftFront.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=LookingDownUp.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/LookingDownUp.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=BottomsOverUp.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/BottomsOverUp.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <a href="http://s213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/?action=view&current=Heels.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc120/CarltonHendricks/Heels.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> |

I have been buying a number of news photos lately. This one came in the mail today. It features spring training, a blonde in a polka dot bikini, Tom Terrific at age 24, and no evidence of steroids or silicone to pollute my two favorite pastimes. What more could a middle aged baseball fan ask for?

Picked this up at an estate sale this morning. Not single signed, but I've always wanted one personalized, so it will do for now.

Yes, you are correct. I do recall that my photo came from one of Henry's auctions. I believe that this photo will be featured in an upcoming book on Nolan Ryan. I like this image too! |

Um...believable Scott. Looks like you are the KING on companion pieces! Just an incredible pick-up my friend.
Jimmy, Thanks for the nice compliment (no pun intended). Let's just say that I learned from the best. You're THE MAN when it comes to the campanion pieces. I'm just drafting in your wake, buddy..... |

Now I sincerely wish I had saved that helmet - it would have been beautiful in a case next to your football, and it cost me next to nothing. |
Ditto. Jimmy...
I feel like it's almost too obvious and redundant to compliment your acquisitions, as they are always off the charts. But many thanks for the compliments! What you said about Mike H and me was ironic... we often step aside for each other when a unique figural piece hits the market. I never even saw his Catcher Ashtray, but we often have to "collaborate" when a cool figural piece surfaces. I sometimes wonder if you and Mark (Lordstan) do the same with photos... Yankees in particular! |
Mark(perezfan),
I am honored to be mentioned in the same realm with Jimmy. BUT...when it comes to vintage Yankees photography, Jimmy is the "King" of this board and probably pretty close to overall. My wife keeps a tight noose(yes...Noose) on my monthly expenditures, so we collect in a different range. I am fortunate to count him as friend and trusted advisor, which is only fair as I do have him to blame for my current interest in vintage photography. I was happy and blissfully ignorant collecting my signed 34 Goudeys, when Bam...He comes along with ridiculous photos of Gehrig and holy cow I'm hooked. I think it is quite easy to get hooked on collecting new things because of this board. The amount, quality, and variety of the collections here are incredible and too numerous to mention each. Suffice it to say, that this is THE place to live out your collecting dreams vicariously through others. What makes it even worse, is that most here are so damn nice, it's hard not to get caught up in their collecting enthusiasm. You figural and pennant collectors have fantastic stuff as well. I am fortunate that my basement isn't finished or I might have to get some of those as well to display. Best, Mark |
Geez Mark, I wish I had that tight a noose on me. You pick up some pretty nice stuff every month :D

Really jazzed to end the month on a great note. Just picked up a game 7 ticket from the 1946 world series. This was the game that Enos Slaughter went from first to home on a single to win the series. This will look great matted with my photo of Slaughter sliding across home signed by both him and Marty Marion.

Thanks Scott! It was a really good weekend for tickets, at least as far as I collect. There was a 1954 game 1 ticket (Mays catch), a 1951 game 2 (Mantle blown knee), a 1955 game 1 (Robinson steal of home) and a 55 game 7 (Brooklyn's only title). All 4 of those came up first and went for more than I thought they were worth so I passed on them, and then the 1946 came up and I got it for what I felt was a great price. I guess that just shows the N.Y. bias even on old tickets :D
