They aren't cards, but I took home these two lots . . . very excited.

insidethewrapper 05-08-2011 07:12 PM

I didn't win anything. I was outbid on a few items at around 3:30 am. I wish it would have ended sooner.

jp1216 05-08-2011 07:12 PM

Nice pickups everyone. I was in and out quicker than I was in high school.
Still fun to see what everyone got. Congrats...

familytoad 05-08-2011 07:28 PM

Even though i am on the west coast i cant stay up that late:o

Best pickup is surely Steve's. The lil' fella looks high grade to me but please don't slab him ;)

My eye was on the Yorks, but I only wanted a few cards. I didnt want to tie up that much cash knowing how dumb I get about having dupes...instead of selling/trading I just start a second set...no willpower and lazy:o
so the winner of any of the Yorks, contact me if you have extras for sale. I need several upgrades although my base set (type 1) is complete.

I was thinking if I won the card - Would I have the borders restored, or just leave it alone? Either way, it would still grade the same - Authentic.

Just wondering anyone else's thoughts on this? If you won the card, would you restore the borders?

Would it hurt the value if is was restored?

Any thoughts?

Tony

Keeping in mind that I am not even close to being an advanced collector:

Personally, I would restore the card. It has already been trimmed and will never grade higher than "AUTH" so why not improve its appearance? Like the T206 Wagner in this auction - it was restored twice, the second time to improve it even more.

I have no idea if it would hurt the value, however.

No Babe Ruth

No Babe Ruth, but I did pick up my first REA win-- a lot of 10 e102 in nice shape. I think I got a nice deal.

Thanks, guys, appreciate it. Definitely the cornerstone of my collection right now.

DixieBaseball 05-09-2011 10:13 AM

Underbidder...

Struck out swinging on the T210-8 Series lot after fouling several off. I placed 4 straight bids late to push that sub-set up quite a bit... (Someone wanted the set really bad at $235 per card) Placed about a dozen bids overall, and came up empty this year.

I totally agree and even said so the night of the auction. Great pickup for 60% of the real market value, imo.

E93 05-09-2011 12:19 PM

Thanks guys. I am very excited about it. I was surprised to get it for that price too after chatting with Leon on auction night. Glad we were wrong.

Adam, great Ringside...... glad it has Leonard for you, but Marciano ain't bad n'either ....... :)

Tbob, sorry to see your e90-1's go so low :( ....... someone got deal of the auction.

felada 05-09-2011 12:35 PM

I agree with Leon. Easily a 10k card. If I had any idea it would go that cheap i would have been more aggressive in pursuing it. I also think the 'common' Kbat Mets went cheap as well.

Congrats Gary - From now on I will try to vicariously get enjoyment from that awesome Ruth Postcard everytime I see your avatar. I was considering pulling the trigger but looks like it went to a good home. Congrats again.

Thanks Scott. I have no clue what happened. 14k and an SMR (which is nowhere near what they go for on ebay, they sell for more) of 22k or so. Darned if I know. Like I say, we live and learn. The E90-1 set has never been a "hot" set like some of the other sets but where else can you get two Wagners, Cobb, Matty, all the HOFers and all those scarce variation and horizontal cards? I'm just glad I didn't buy the Joe Jackson and added it to the set to make it complete. There's another E90-1 near set of 119/120 (minus Joe) in Mile High right now with a minimum bid of 25k. Maybe that didn't help. Oh well I'll take the 14k and plow it back in to more cards. :o

When I saw that sitting there at midnight at that price, I was so annoyed I had not put a place-holder bid on it earlier so I could bid.

win anything Rob?

Matt 05-09-2011 04:59 PM

Nothing on the cardboard side. Really wasn't chasing any cards in this year's auction.

Thanks guys.

Really fun auction, picked up my stuff from REA today (Thanks Dean, Tom & Rob) still sitting in my office it's 2am and I'm still pulling Obaks out of sheets and they are in unreal condition be dropping these sets off to SGC this week.

I feel like I'm 12 again, almost makes me sad to pull them from the sheets. :o

Not sure if I overpaid or not on lot #423, but I'm sure excited about it! I'm definitely keeping the Wagner, but I may put a few of these up on eBay.

While I like the Wagner, I am totally amazed it got a '2' with that big water stain across the front of the card. That makes the other '2'' in the same grouping look like a '4'......

e107collector 05-10-2011 10:36 AM

M116 Lajoie

M's Fan - do you happen to know why the Lajoie got a 2? I don't see any any stains or creasing from the scan, maybe something on the back?

Nice group anyway, congrats.

The Lajoie has a tiny bit of paper loss on the back which explains the downgrade.

That Wagner...I can't get over that oil slick on there. Is that going to be a prime candidate for a soaking?

I don't think it will come out but need to consult Dick Towle for correct answer but what a great looking group of cards, awesome pickup !

M's_Fan 05-10-2011 09:52 PM

It never occurred to me that a stain like that could be removed by soaking. Glue and tobacco can soak off, but I wouldn't guess stains like that would go away. But I've never soaked anything so I don't know much about this.

REA just ended--looking fror 3 lot winners

1) Did anyone here win any of the Domino Discs (I need 7 Reds commons) ?
2) How about the Silks (I need 3) ?
3) Or the Reds (Red Belts) PC's ?

Thanks, Len
