Thanks so much for asking. I am up to 79% on the 1933 Goudey (SGC 40-80), need just 51 cards to complete the set. For the 1934 set (SGC 50-80), I need 35 cards to complete that set. It has been a fun ride so far! Rob |
Thanks! There is a nice looking 1928 Sand on ebay if you have not seen it.

Eartly Mantle RPPC
2 Attachment(s)
After reading the new Mantle book I developed a new-found appreciation for Mickey and set out to add something "mantle" to my collection. Won this card on the bay. I was told the code on the back was for paper used through 1950 but certainly could have been used in '51 his rookie year. I did some research - Mick's first spring training was held in Phoenix and the ad on the outfield wall for the jeweler is in fact for a jeweler in Phoenix. (that is still in business). So I think I can say with confidence this is from spring training of Mantle's rookie year. I have no idea who produced it (who would have produced it??) but I think it could be significant. Wanted everyone to enjoy this image of Mickey before his stardom really kicked in.
|
Very nice Mantle RPPC, Peter. I would concur that it appears to be from 1951 based on all of the criteria that you mentioned. The only thing missing is the shield on Mantle's sleeve that the Yankees wore during 1951 only but may be due to the angle of the photo or the fact that it was not worn during spring training and maybe began with the regular season opener.

It was a great weekend for the incomings, 23 SGC cards to help out various set collecting projects, and two lots from BST guys. One was C46 from Bill Latzko (PSA1 mostly) and some of these old caramels from our friendly fireman's fabulous, fantastic and feral find. Amazing caramel cards from old trunks...who'da thunk it? For the SGC cards I got back, I will post just a couple favorites, the others can be found on my SGC pages http://www.sgccardregistry.com/set.aspx?cat=6&set=463. The familytoad SGC HOF collection just past the 100 card mark so I'm pretty jazzed.

Bob - Nice Pickups ! You actually got 3 names for the price of 2 ! Charlotte teammate, Hayes, is on that Brazell card, I believe... (Hayes was a teammate) Anywho... The T210's have been taken a well deserved breather of late and I can't wait to see some new hobby collector's start collecting these little gems. |

Bender Mania running wild
Finally was able to upgrade my E101. So happy Leon won the Cobb Coupon Type 1 so I could get the Bender Type 1 from him, a card I wasn't sure I would ever be able to get ! And thanks to Tony Andrea for the Burke and Atwell Postcard, on the back the sender says to his friend he thought he was coming to the World Series but he didn't miss much as the A's have an unreal group and took care of business real fast !
