Been looking for one of these early scorecards for a long time. A friend traded me this today. Happy to have it.

1939 Hall of Fame Yearbook.
Lou Gehrig's induction yearbook. First year, that I am aware, that a book was produced. Thank you Jimmy for the great deal! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...ks/HOF1939.jpg |

Recapping some May pickups:
First is a 1930's-40's St. Louis Cardinals figural statue Next is a set of 1920's folk-art carved chalkware figurals And lastly a set of Milwaukee Braves indian head wall plaques. |
My recently acquired Gehrig Strength cover looked lonely Sooo.....

Hey Mark...I was wondering ir you were going to pick up a Ruth to go with the Gehrig. They look great!
|
Yes... a visually stunning pair. Just beautiful... Congrats, Mark!
Also... Brock, those are great pickups. Like you, I just love those early chalkware figural pieces, and those are all some really tough finds. Many congrats to you as well! |
Mark,
Thanks for the kind words. The books themselves are in such great shape. The scans just don't do them justice. At some point, I think they would look great framed together, but I hate not being able to get in and read them. Mark |
Yep... it's always tough to know what to do with these types of collectibles. I bet they'd be spectacular framed, given the gorgeous colors and graphics, matching images, and iconic subject matter.
On the other hand, you'll completely lose the function for which they were intended. Tough call, but I would read through them thoroughly, and then relegate them to display. They're just too pretty to sit on a coffee table or in a bookshelf! |

Found an upgrade to a very poor Lenny Levy that I had from a couple of years ago. I've had a heck of a time finding one for my 1960 Pirates project, but thanks to Bill Corcoran for having this available! Doesn't get any better than
this. |

Picked up some nice Baseball Banks recently. These are tough to find in great condition. Had to compromise a tiny bit on the condition of the Jackie Robinson Bank. But since I had never seen one before, I was thrilled to get it...
Has anyone else ever seen one of these? |
Mark, that is a real nice pickup on the Robinson Baseball Bank. Recently, a rare version of this bank sold on the bay, it was a promotion for the movie "The Pride of the Yankees" and had a Gehrig facsimile. No doubt, both of these banks are insanely rare as you like to say.
|
Thanks Tigerden...
I guess the "insanely rare" thing is a bit of an over-statement... how about seldom-seen? I knew the Robinson Bank had to be pretty scarce, and I did see that Pride of the Yankees Bank as well. I caught it towards the end of its ebay run, and it was already over $500 so I never even entertained the thought of bidding on that one. It sure was a cool piece though. That one had to be insanely rare! |
I've been after this one for a while. Not tough to find, but tough to find in top condition and at a reasonable (in this case low low low) price.:D

I've been trying to obtain autographs of former Lincoln minor leaguers so I was thrilled to get this in the mail today...I just happened to see a story about George Lebedz in the North Platte newspaper so I googled his address and sent him a letter and some photos that I had of him and he returned it with a nice little type-written note.

Now that's what I call a TTM Dan!
