Got this off the BST a few months ago...my favorite back, on a HOF portrait of my favorite team, in the grade I'm going for. Great success.

It's great to see everyone's pickups for '09, an amazing collection.
This Kluszewski is probably my favorite because of searching for one that was decent and within budget, couldn't find a satisfactory purchase of one at Nationals but shortly after picked this one up from Joe on the BST. RC http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w...Kluszewski.jpg |

Nice
All of you have awsome cards! I really take pride in looking at other members pride and joy. It's like walking in a candy store as a 3 year old...
I will post some of mine soon. I don't have the older stuff like many of you all, but I have done okay for myself and budget. David |
N172 Alcott - Mansfields

I especially enjoyed obtaining the Alcott - Mansfields card in a trade. It was the last significant "common" team I needed.

Wheat T213-2
http://i649.photobucket.com/albums/u...tT213Front.jpg
I am very proud of this pickup, as it is huge for my Wheat collection. There are only 9 total in the SGC population report and only 3 of those are graded higher, all at 40. Thanks for looking! |
Gonna Havta Go With This One

I have had some nice pick ups for 2009-I finally got the Jack Dunn American Beauty to finish my Baltimore AB set, got the Smith t213-2 to finish the Baltimore players in t213( still need an upgrade on the Jack Dunn t213).
I picked up 2 black Lenox and a few other rare backs I also picked up some really nice southern league cards from several different sets-thanks to some great 54 members and ebay but I guess my best pick up is this one-thanks Rob Attachment 10608 |

Congrats to all!
I have different favorites for different reasons. 2009 was a great year for my Detroit collection so I'm sharing my favorite OJ and Tomlinson together with a Police Gazette type card. |
Sorry, not the most experienced uploader! Here's some '09 Pickups.
JimB, those E223's are WONDERFUL! Enjoy! After the N566 Ward mentioned in another thread, this was the big get for me in 2009. Been looking for a G&B as a type card for a long time. |

Shown prior, but my best.

Those are great, Gary.

First, thanks Rob D, for starting what seems to be a great thread. Sincerely.
Next, thanks to everyone who's posted... So far, this is my favorite pickup of 2009... courtesy of a low profile collector who got this and contacted me. Thank you, sir. It came from the SkyDash stash. A second favorite arrived today, Jeff Tesreau's T210... thank you kind board member. J F Whitaker, the hard hitting outfielder for the Richmond Pioneers of the Blue Grass League, an Old Mill red border series 6 T210. With this card, I lack one more to complete series 6... maybe my favorite pickup in 2010 will be Angermeier fielding.... http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j1...210series6.jpg Great thread. Thanks again, Rob. |

Besides my doggy, Lola, who still sleeps under my arm (outside the covers :)) every night, I guess these would be a few of my faves from this year. No real spectacular items like a D304 Martens Cobby or T206 Matty Proof....but still cool to me...

Matt, that's a great Crawford PC.

Thanks Jeff
I would love to have gotten the Cobb to go along with it!!
|
Matt, I remember thinking the same thing about the Crawford! I ended up with the Jennings as well.

Favourite for 2009
This seems like small potatoes considering a lot of what has been posted, but I'm still glad to have it. I haven't picked up another card since getting this one back in March or so...

Mickey7,
Ignoring the fact that this is board is supposed to be about pre-war cards, I think the point of this thread is not to post all of your 2009 pickups - just your favorite pickup. |
I am in 100% agreement on that one.
|
Do you know all the players in that photo?

I have a list of players pictured in that photo and Joseph Scott is not one of them. |

Bought a collection of Sporting News Supplements, including the following:

Grover Cleveland Alexander, Phillies flag & Willow Grove
2 Attachment(s)
This card measures 5-1/8" by 3" and pictures the Electric Display at Willow Grove (PA) Park. On the back is an announcement for a Third Annual Picnic under auspices of Kinsports Employees with music by Sousa's band. In smaller lettering there is mention of "Philadelphia and Chicago (National League) at 15th and Huntingdon Streets". The date is August 21, 1915.
What interested me about the card initially was the mention of Willow Grove: a longtime home of one of our hobby's best shows. After a bit more research, I discovered that the Phillies had a doubleheader that day and won both ends: 7-5, behind the great Grover Cleveland Alexander in the opener, and Al Demaree over Karl Adams, 3-2, in the second. Furthermore, the Phillies would go on to win the National League pennant that year. Minutes ago, as I was trying to track down this information for posting, I discovered another important fact regarding the date August 21, 1915 which I did not know at time of purchase. That was the date that the Chicago White Sox acquired outfielder Shoeless Joe Jackson for outfielders Larry Chappell and Robert Roth, pitcher Ed Klepfer and something over $31,000 in cash! This find came courtesy of a spur of the moment eBay search for "Willow Grove." |
Here are the 3 men refernced by Steve... I'll take that Jackson kid!

Very interesting Player's League cabinet
|
Very cool item Jay! Such an unusual style cabinet.
-Rhett |
WOW!, very neat cabinet Jay ! A great baseball themed mount with diamond shaped photo afixed to it. That is a special cabinet from a significant baseball season.
|
Jay,
I wondered where that cabinet ended up. Great piece. You seem to have an attraction to diamonds. |
Gary--This is one diamond I will not part with--interesting format, plenty of HOFers, and the only Giants PL cabinet I have ever seen.
|
Jay,
Spectacular! |
