Scott, Doug & Mark thanks so much. Genuinely appreciate the comments. Kreindler, you want my lunch money too? Teasing. Nothing but love. Really excited to be apart of the Net54 community. Great group of people roaming around here. Until next time. |

Hey everyone,
Just wanted to share my Lou Gehrig sketch I received from Scott Silvers, the art teacher from Florida. Like others have said, Scott is a true class act and the pictures do not do the drawing justice. I am really looking forward to getting this in a better frame as soon as I can. Sorry for the poor images. They were taken from my cell phone unfortunately. http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...2/a35f8918.jpg http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...2/69024f0e.jpg http://i1244.photobucket.com/albums/...2/4ca9f8a2.jpg |

Hey Guys, just finished a new Feller piece and thought I'd share. First is the scan. 2nd is a framed shot. And the last is Bob enjoying his time outdoors for some new promotional shots we're doing for a new part of the web page coming soon. Again, thanks for the taking the time to look.

Lovely work, Chris. The three-dimensionality you've achieved on his nose and cheeks is pretty top notch. Keep it up!
Bob, I'm lovin' the study of Wagner's hands! Very well done - let's see some more! Graig |
A new direction for me. The uploaded image might be tough to make out, but still wanted to share with you guys. A slightly better scan can be seen on the site: www.541871.com. Appreciate you taking the time to look.

Original artwork of pitchers that threw two or more no-hitters
7 Attachment(s)
All of these pieces are original art that I own in my personal collection of guys that pitched at least two no-hitters in their career:
Nolan Ryan- Original watercolor by artist C Johnson. I don't know who Mr. Johnson is, but he has skill! Bob Feller- This Week in Baseball newspaper cartoon by Hollreiser (circa 1970). Bob Forsch- Original color pencil sketch by artist Amadee. This ran in a newspaper in St. Louis Don Wilson- Charles Linnett circa 1973 original charcoal drawing and original photo that Linnett actually used. From the Charles Linnett archive. Johnny Vander Meer- Original 1940's artwork from News of the Reds artist and original oil panting of net54's own Graig Kreindler (2012) |

Hey Scott!
That Ryan is great! Also really like those original Linnett drawings - picked up a few some years ago - the fine detail is really impressive. Staying with your no hitter theme, I really like this original art I picked up of Koufax from the Upper Deck Masterpieces set. They had some incredibly talented artists commissioned for those sets. |

I did the research below and matched to the numbers/info within the sketch and determined that this was drawn before the game Wednesday, July 28 1961 during Maris' historic run for publication on Thursday the 29th, 1961. I think this exemplifies how negative the media was with Maris(including Mullin) and the pressure Maris had endured. Little did Mullin know that Maris would break Ruth's record that year, become MVP of the league, evolve into a great defenseman, win the world series and re-write history. http://i947.photobucket.com/albums/a...ps59f1af89.jpg |

Baseball Illustrations
I found two works by noted paperback cover artist TONY KOKINOS.
He illustrated many New York magazines with baseball, football and hockey subjects. He was know for this 1958 NFL Championship painting (Colts - Giants) <a href='http://postimage.org/' target='_blank'><img src='http://s7.postimage.org/gcmgr2e97/Kokinos_Colts_Giants.jpg' border='0' alt="Kokinos Colts Giants" /></a><br /><a target='_blank' href='http://postimage.org/'>image upload</a><br /><br /> Here is a painting that seems to be "Catfish" Hunter - N.Y. Yankees <a href='http://postimage.org/' target='_blank'><img src='http://s7.postimage.org/qzboiqx0r/Kokonis_pitcher_jpg_Copy.jpg' border='0' alt="Kokonis pitcher,jpg Copy" /></a><br /><a target='_blank' href='http://postimage.org/'>free image hosting</a><br /><br /> This looks familiar from something from 1969 <a href='http://postimage.org/' target='_blank'><img src='http://s11.postimage.org/4qrio5z3n/Kokonis_batter.jpg' border='0' alt="Kokonis batter" /></a><br /><a target='_blank' href='http://postimage.org/'>image</a><br /><br /> I was very pleased to add these to my collection. |

Wow, that Koufax original art is impressive- very realistic! Thanks again for allowing me to add the Vander Meer original art piece to my collection. BTW, I think that Charles Linnett's original charcoal drawings are terrific. I really am proud to own one of them in my personal collection. I wish I owned the original Nolan Ryan in this collection. ;) Here are two variations of Charles Linnett's Nolan Ryan charcoal drawing prints from the mid 1970's. The first is the standard Linnett Ryan print. The 2nd is a exceedingly rare Pro77 sock variation of this print. Pro77 socks were a product sold at JC Penny's department store in Southern California. This regional variation of this print is ridiculously difficult to find for a Nolan Ryan collector. Here is mine that Nolan signed and personalized to me back in the day. :D |

Hey Scott!
Seeing that JVM drawing and knowing it found a great home always makes me smile! I am going to have to go back and dig up my Linnett drawings - I can't remember who I have! Speaking of Linnett, I really like this picture I found on the 'interwebs' from his family's site. A great picture of the art in process! http://www.linnettstudios.com/Linnet...t_a00_home.htm |

My original art collection is limited to this page of Clemente comic art, the colored version is a copy of the page as it appeared in the published comic, and this 1960 Bill Veeck Bill by Olderman. The Clemente piece is much too large for my scanner hence the cropped appearance.

Very nice Koufax original art! Mike, I just saw your post on the Bill Veeck Olderman piece. Perezfan Mark just sold me this 1940's Olderman Bob Feller. It arrived today! :) |

This is a beautiful Koufax piece. Great likeness from a famous Koufax photo. Phil |
Thanks, Phil! Love your Koufax pen and ink drawings, as well! Kind of sad that the heyday of those artists and those types of drawings is probably 50 years gone now. I think back then almost every major newspaper either had their own or ran syndicated artitsts. More victims of technology, I suppose.

Bump for a great thread and some great artists. I've shown the fist one before from a great artist and super guy by the name of Scott Pedley. It is now framed and just awesome!
And the second one just arrived in the mail from Scott Silvers. It is based on a woodcut from the 1860 Brooklyn Excelsior Club. It is incredible to say the least and huge at a size of 20" x 30". He has been a pleasure to work with and his dedication to his school is amazing as the proceeds from his paintings go fully to his school! Thank you so much Scott!! |

I got married last week and this was the present I gave to my groomsmen, all big baseball fans...
http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...psef5c0b1a.jpg I framed a larger version of the portrait and gave each a set packaged with a stick of gum in it's own wrapper. |
Now THAT is beyond bad@$$, Gary. Really awesome idea and beautiful execution (as always). And congrats - I joined the club a few months ago, too.

Thanks guys! I'm always reluctant to give away my art as presents because I feel like I'm forcing friends and family to hang it on their wall and the fact that my art is second nature to me and is easy. In reality everyone in my life loves to receive my art when I do give it as a present. I went back and forth between the portraits and a flask or something, but fortunately, my wife talked sense into me and told me to go ahead and do the drawings for my groomsmen. They went over great and made everyone happy. Guess that's why wives are called "the better half"...

Hi...What's the story on your 20"x25" painting you posted the other day?....is that from the period? or modern?...is that a prang painting....or I should say...is it a painting Prang made prints of?.... Do you just collect baseball paintings...or other sports?..I got a football painting last year by Hy S. Watson...see below http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps49500437.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...psc521eecc.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps0e4ceeee.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps874010f6.jpg http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...ps8a1bc4bf.jpg -Carlton |

The Prang painting is a modern reproduction but not a print...100% oil painting based on the original Prang lithograph. I had it done as a companion piece to the original Prang lithograph in my collection (the second one titled "A Stolen Base?"). I also collect some 19th century boxing items although very limited. Beyond these paintings, my idea of original art is woodcuts...it would be my dream to find an original baseball woodblock which was used in one of the 19th century publications. I have never seen one. George |

I've picked some of these up recently. They are trading card sized (2.5"x 3.5") and they are hand painted, not prints. I think the artist is very good. I actually have more on the way.

Those card size paintings keep showing up on one of my Campanella searches. Those look much nicer than the Campanella looks on eBay. If you get that one please let me know as I'd like to see a nice, detailed scan.

Those Edward Vela hand-painted cards are beautifully executed. Really love those... especially the impressionist style and interesting backgrounds.

Interesting item on your want list, that original woodblock...I agree I've never heard of one...if you get time email me photos of your 19th century boxing items, would like to see. May I ask who painted your Prang copy painting?...they did a great job! Speaking of emailing....I don't know what the heck happened....I thought I was emailing you my question direct with photos of my Hy S. Watson football painting...I even noticed I didn't get an email reply from you!...I never even looked back on this thread till today...late night fuzzy brain I guess LOL...I wouldn't usually want to post a football piece on someone's baseball specific thread...Nevertheless thanks for your reply.....and apologies to the constituency for the intrusion. -Carlton |
