Greg- that Diamond Brand is a beauty. Is it circa 1910?
Edited to say it looks like 1909 World Series, with Detroit and Pittsburgh. |

Thanks Barry, you're right on the date.
This was a piece sent to a retailers to entice them to put the full size Diamond Brand display in their window. It was a three dimensional piece -- 28 x 40 and ten inches deep, with cardboard cutouts of the players at their positions -- I have never seen one. Here are a couple more pieces. |
Awesome stuff Greg.... your collection is amazing. Thanks for posting all of those great pieces!
|
You would think i would ahve a great chance to find one of those Peach posters considering i live 10 minutes from Gloversville but i come across nothing dealing with the company, only thing i know is where the old factory was.

Thanks Mark -- it's fun finally being able to show some stuff.
Here are a couple of ad pieces from sporting goods stores. The Mays bat is a giant bat (appropriately enough) -- well over four feet long. |
Greg, awesome pieces. Thanks for sharing.

Home Run Cigarettes Circa 1910... the 12X18 version.
The Colors are incredible. Anyone ever notice that the T206 Johnny Evers With Bat, Chicago on Shirt has the EXACT same background as this Home Run poster? |
Great Home Run poster -- I like the fact that you have it in an antique frame.

When you say "the 12x18 version", does that mean you know of another size that was produced? FYI, I featured that Home Run Cigs poster on my Sports Antique of the Week May 31st-June 10th 2009. Below the link if you haven't seen it already. http://sportsantiques.com/homeruncigspost.htm -Carlton |

!964 Volpe advertisement
1 Attachment(s)
These banners were displayed in 1964 outside Union 76 gas stations in Los Angeles, promoting 8"x10" pictures of various Dodger players given away at the stations with a minumum puchase. It measures a whopping 3 1/2' x 7', and is made out of linen. Never seen another one survive, and being a picture of Sandy Koufax makes it even more unique.

I love this piece

"Junk mail" 80 years ago is pretty interesting. This tire salesman/owner was ahead of his time that is for sure. Cool find Jimmy. |
That Dodgers banner with Koufax is incredible!

I'm glad you posted that banner. I have one the same size for Cleveland Indians Volpe cups from the same era. When I get home later I'll try to snap a photo and post it. Nice to see that another one of these -- albeit not advertising the same giveaway -- survived. Rob |

Nolan knows Rhino
1 Attachment(s)
Not vintage, but definitely oddball as this is the only one that I've ever seen. I've always liked this one. Nolan Ryan hawking Rhino brand huge farm equipment. As you can see, the bi-line is "Some things are just built tougher than others." BTW- Poster is circa 1990.

Paul,
Great stuff! I noticed this especially because of the presence of Gehrig. It's interesting that the tag line is "Joe McCarthy and a host of Memories" but there is no Dimaggio pictured. Ruth, Gehrig, Rizzuto, Keller, Crosetti, even one behind Gehrig that looks a little like Mantle, plus a few others that I can't immediately place are all there, but no Dimaggio. Strange! Nonetheless, it's a beaut:D http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v2...alendarP-1.jpg[/QUOTE] Also if you ever get tired of it LMK. Best, Mark |
Calendar Print?
I believe that McCarthy yankees piece was to be used as the print as the header on a calendar. I have had it like 15 years and found it in mint condition.

Dell,
I don't like being the bearer of bad news, and maybe you already know this, but I'm 99 percent sure that's a fantasy piece. Not really a reproduction in the true sense of the word, because there was never an original piece like that. It's a modern creation. Others can check in with their thoughts. I hope I'm wrong. Best, Rob |
You are correct Rob. I didn't want to be the bearer of bad news, but I would want to know.
