Lets revisit a new forum hosting s/w solution possibility

Posted By: Marty Ogelvie

Jim,

I don't think the new software (vbulletin) will be much more complicated for posters like your or myself. The think the true complexity is behind the scenes. I think the users will enjoy more bells and whistles but you don't have to use them. If you can post on Net54, you can surely post on the new boards.. BTW, NET54 is far more complicated for regular posters than most any other bulletin board software available today.

The hardest part will be registering on the new boards (if Leon can't transfer his base over) and bookmarking the new site!

marty

Posted By: leon
The basics will definitely not change, as it will be just as easy to post, but anyone posting will have to re-register one time.... Overall the new platform is light years ahead of this one. I think it might be ready in a week or less at this point. Once we got going on the install, the back end looks detailed but not too difficult, and Brian is whipping along at breakneck speed. regards

Posted By: davidcycleback
I've seen many football teams fire a .500 coaches only discover he was better than anyone else they could get. I'd call this board a .500 board. It has its occasional issues and error messages, but generally works. If the next board is a Tom Landry, of even a Don Coryell, then go for it. Just realize the celebrated new coach sometime turns out to be a Don Morton (former 1980s Wisconsin Badgers coach who now work for a computer company in Fargo-- say no more). After just a few years of their new hire, the Badgers longed for the days of .500 ball. Though, to end to the story on a significantly positive note, the Badgers' replacement for Morton was a Notre Dame assistant coach named Barry Alvarez. Twenty years after that hire, Alvarez is universally ranked as the greatest coach in school history and there's a bronze statue of him in front of the stadium.

Posted By: Jim VB
Jim C,

I know you use AOL. In the upper right corner of this page is a red heart icon. If you click on that, a screen comes up that asks if you want to add this site to your favorites. If you do so, it is stored in the "Favorites" listing on the upper right side of the AOL main page.

That's "bookmarking." It's the electronic version of folding over the corner of a catalog page that you want to go back to later.

Posted By: Todd Schultz
if you are used to accessing this board through a link on letstalksportscards, then I am confident my good friends over there will update the link to send you to the new site. Still, it wouldn't hurt to learn a couple new tricks. Bookmarking is easy and a huge timesaver.

Posted By: leon
We are in the process of porting over all of the old threads to the new board. Hopefully it will be done today. The new board is done except for that. It will certainly take Brian, Dan and myself some time to get used to the new back end of it but it will be well worth it. You guys are going to love it.

Jim Crandall- if you need personal help in navigating and using the new site I will help you through it. There is nothing to fear except fear itself.
