Posted By: Ken W.
I have to admit that I have NEVER heard of The Philadelphia Olympics Ball Club. Other than the Doubleday myth of 1839, I had always thought that the first organized team was The N.Y. Knickerbockers of 1842. How long have people known of this Olympic team? Certainly wasn't mentioned in Ken Burn's "Baseball" film from 1994.

Posted By: barrysloate
That Olympic Constitution has been known in the hobby for a long time, as well as the organization. What is unclear is what version of baseball the team played. The rules the Knickerbockers formulated in 1845 are likely to look a little more like the game that is played today.

Posted By: Joann
There are two Ruth's (M101-4's) buried in the middle of the auction. Things like this are often more prominently presented. Is their presence more in the middle a sign of the overwhelming quality of the auction in general, or because the 1914 Baltimore News cards are now recognized as Ruth's rookie issue?

Joann
