It will be passed down to his son, and may stay in the family for generations. So don't hold you breath on that one. But I know that at some point in the future, perhaps by next year, he will have it all available on display and will allow people to see it. But not yet.

I hope to pass my collection down to my son as well (but he is only 10 right now and would trade those old ugly black and white cards for some new glossy foil cards). <img src="/images/wink.gif" height=14 width=14><BR><BR>More importantly ... But I saw one once--with a different back, on which the "C"s were all healthy and bright. Does anyone own this P and S, or know which back it is?<BR><BR>Anxious to see the book!Wish MY son were interested in something besides reviewing movies...I mean, Profoundly interested.

Posted By: <b>barrysloate</b><p>Rather strangely, although the scope and quality of this collection is beyond anyone's comprehension, it has basically been in storage for as long as he has had it. He is currently in the process of building a wing onto his house which will be to display his many collections (besides baseball) so I guess at that time he will be happy to have visitors. And since his collection will be one of the chapters of the Smithsonian book, maybe he is ready to raise his profile a bit. If you are ever able to see it one day, you will be amazed to see just how far someone with both the resources and determination can build something so historically significant and aesthetically beautiful. I haven't even seen the whole thing, but probably nearly all of it. I have been selling rarities for 20 years and I have never handled more than a dozen or so pieces that even come close to the qulaity of this. I too am anxious to see it when it is finally all available to see.<BR> Julie, I know what you are saying about the "C's" being light on the uniforms. I think some of the images are stronger than others, that has been my experience among the ones I have seen. But the "C's" always seem to be the weak point of that image. Since they were obviously red, maybe that just didn't photograph that well.

The person who sold me that particular card told me that it had been in a family album most likely for 131 years, thus preserving the photo quality. They discovered it in the album in 2000 when I purchased it.

I've actually spoken to Keith via e-mail in the past. Even though I don't know him, if he doesn't want to be known, I'm not going to be the one to spill the beans. He appreciated all the nice cards Leon had on display.<BR> No, it is not Keith Olbermann, who does have a wonderful collection but has almost exclusively cards. This collection only has a few cards (and among the best in existence) but is mostly an historical collection, rich in the 1845-1875 era mostly. I'll speak to him in a few days and see if he wants to introduce himself on the board. A little shy, but a great guy.
