I think that was just a case of him showing what he was capable of if he was able to play a (nearly) full season. There are lots of players that could have been great if they could have stayed healthy. In basketball, look at Bernard King. He put up Michael Jordan numbers when he wasn't hurt. But he probably spent half his career on the DL.

Only Wade Boggs would complain after the ball cleared the fence that he "just missed it". Maybe he should have gotten under the ball a bit more often.
