This is a big one in my mind. We have all kinds of new collectors entering the market, none of whom have been "tainted" (terrible choice of wording) by how restoration has classically been frowned upon in this hobby. Several of these newbies are crossing over from other hobbies such as comic books, where restoration is considered wholly acceptable.

Remember, to the previously uninitiated, the general idea of restoration is seen as a good thing. We hear about it all the time: as someone else mentioned, with classic cars. Also, the fine art world, comic books, furniture, architecture. Restoration is everywhere and the word has very positive connotations when associated with practically anything else.

Just saw this today about comic book restoration. Big money awarded to the restores.

You might be saying the same thing in another decade. If you put your mind to it and stay hyper focused on getting to that goal, you’ll achieve it sooner than you think. Life is just too short to live with regrets so go after it.

Well, if the guy says he can't afford/justify the card, it seems to me the last thing he needs is a pep talk.

+1

Life is too short to waste it worrying about cardboard that we can’t afford.

I'm gonna let you guys in on a little secret about card restoration. Pressing cards flat to smash them and give them a larger footprint is not a thing. I know you've all read that it is in fact a thing that card doctors do, and have heard that rumor for decades. But I assure you, this is not a thing.

I think authentic altered cards with strong eye appeal, particularly with high-end cards, is one of the best places you can put your money in this hobby.

By piss poor card doctors it sure as heck is….just because you are a card doctor doesn’t mean you know what the hell you're doing.

And, I have it on good word, by some good ones too. It is definitely a thing.
