After those incredibly impressive Cobb runs and the Wagner run, I felt compelled to dig out and show off another couple show-stopping back runs.

There I was at the Net54 pre-War collectors get together in No. Va. at the beginning of February, wearing my Hugh Jennings back-run T-shirt that Steve ("brass_rat") & Bryan ("Jobu") gifted me about 4 years ago, and in the process of setting up my card display at the beginning of this wonderful event (thanks to Ryan & Andrew!). Whereupon, Steve comes up to me, hands me a wrapped package, and says, "open it, it's for you." I do as instructed and see that it is another Jennings back-run T-shirt. Steve asks, "what's different about it?" Without thinking, I instantly respond, "the size?" "No" says Steve, "look more closely." I do this , and OHMIGOSH, I see that the back run on this T-shirt has an additional card! At this point, Steve pulls this additional card out of his pocket, hands it to me, and says, "it's for you." The card is a T216 Kotton Cigs with the "NEVER GO OUT" back that I had been searching for forever but never seen and all but given up hope of ever finding. Steve told me he came across this card in a collection he was considering acquiring and instatntly knew he had to get it for me. Bryan then updated his design work for the T-shirt, and Steve got the new T-shirt made. Yes, I'm prejudiced, but you won't find two nicer guys in our hobby and/or on this forum!

Wow, just wow on some of these back runs (Blunder 19 are you kidding me? So impressive!).
I have been working on a T206 Red Sox team set with all different backs. Right now I have 7 of the cards. I have polar bear, sovereign, cycle, old mill, AB, tolstoi, and EPDG. I have found there seems to be a cutoff between AB and the next level up, which I would consider to be Hindu. Was fairly reasonable to find the ones I have but Hindu is a whole nother ball game and I still don't have anything tougher than that. I suppose Carolina Brights would be next. Still need Speaker (will probably just do Piedmont or SC), Cicotte, Stahl no glove, Kleinow and Spencer. This has been a fun project and these are the only cards in my collection where displaying the backs is as much fun visually as displaying the front. |

Val, I'm just so happy that the card eventually turned up somewhere, and you were able to complete the run. (Now if anybody comes up with a blank back or a red Croft's, consider me shocked!)
The hardest part was waiting several months to surprise you in person. :) |

I don't have all the cards in a montage, but I think I finally managed to complete a player back run in my T206 Providence set with this Arndt Broad Leaf. I think it's complete with Piedmont, SC350/25, SC350/30, Sovereign, AB350, Cycle, BL.

I just picked up this E104-1 Nadja Caramel card in a trade with Leon that has the same image of Topsy Hartsel as these 3 other type cards that I've had for quite some time. Are there any other cards, other than an E104-1 with a blank back, that I need to obtain in order to complete this small back run of Topsy?

I finally finished off the T206 backs line with a different HOFer in each slot. I needed two Southern League players to fill those two slots, so decided on Shag and Hooker, for obvious reasons! I needed one more player to be able to check off each slot and was lucky enough to be able to add Fred Merkle to fill the Lenox Brown slot. I was hoping it would either be him or Chase, so feel really good about hitting one of my two targets! Average grade is 3.25, with only the Willis Drum being a beater, but I’m looking to upgrade that if anyone will part with a 3-4!
Building the line and only including one each of the HOFers, made it extremely difficult, as I owned 3 different Tinker On and 4 different J Collins cards, along with a few other fronts, until the alignment finally came together. This is my second time doing this, so I knew was I was in for. I didn’t finish last time, so between the four years of working on it this time and nearly ten, the first time, there have been a ton of man hours on the excel sheet and on the BST to get this finished. I think about half the board has helped in one of the two versions, so I won’t thank everyone here. I do wish Ted could have seen the finished lineup, as he helped me with some of the configurations, when I was working the first time, as I had to work with what I had, versus being able to just go out and buy whatever I needed, much like this time around. Looking forward to getting a good scanned layout of these, after I get fully moved and the scanner set up. I’m hoping to do the layout like Luke, Jamie and some of you other folks have. For good measure I have the T215 Red Cross McGraw Glove, from Leon’s old collection. The T213-1 is included in this set with the Huggins Port, which I also hope to upgrade. Picture has the player list with back and the back list, with player to make things a little easier to understand. The joys of OCD collecting, right here! Enjoy, Bob |

Thanks for the kind words and, yes, I’m super happy to have landed that Merkle! I missed out on the Uzit Merkle from the original run, but super happy to have landed the Brown Lenox instead. I’ve been trying for the rest of the cousins, but think I came in third on the Pirate Marquard and well short on the Victory Evers recently. I have landed a T213-3 Chase and T213-3 Factory 8 OP Collins, and continue to look for a nice T213-2 HOF portrait to check off that slot. I burned up a LOT of trading stock to get the BL460 Brown, as the rest of the line was sort of built around get him in that slot, but would love to see if I could track down the Pirate and Victory at least!
