Second Annual Mid-Atlantic Trade Day & Get Together
In an effort to help a very worthwhile cause, Ryan and I have chosen Wolf Trap Animal Rescue (https://www.wtarescue.com/) as a charity to support, in connection with our trade day/get together.
The mission of this organization is to rescue high-risk dogs and cats, mainly from Mississippi, where young animals are euthanized by the hundreds every day. Since 2015, WTAR has successfully rescued over 12,000 dogs and cats, and transported them to the DC area. After being bathed, vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed/neutered, they are placed in foster homes until they find their forever homes through local adoption events. The transport of animals from Mississippi occurs on a nearly weekly basis. My family adopted our dog Bo (photos below) through WTAR, and donate to them frequently. Our get together is free to attend, however, voluntary donations will be accepted at the event, with all proceeds going directly to WTAR, which is a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization (EIN: 47-5126237). I would encourage you all, whether attending our event or not, to donate to this very worthwhile cause. For those of you who prefer to donate directly to WTAR, that can be done easily through their website. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...0f9457ec80.jpg https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...102c7a1e48.jpg |
just so long as you're not bringing puppies. I have no self-restraint where dogs are concerned and my wife would kill me :)

This is awesome. I sure wish I was able to attend this event and meet some awesome collector, I’ve yet to meet and see amazing cards and collections. I can however give back a little to the organization. Thanks and god bless. |
Scott, To avoid being complicit in a murder, there will be no puppies at the event. ;)
Josh, I hope you will be able to attend one of these in the future... Quote:

I now have someone who wants all these price guides.
I'm doing some pre-Spring cleanup at my wife's STRONG urging, so I'm going to get rid of the following baseball price guides. Most are in nice condition. I can't bring myself to immediately trash them, so I'm hoping that someone who is coming to this get together can make use of them. I am going to try and be there again this time... if only to remind all the card guys that we photo guys want some respect too! :)
Thank you Ryan and Andrew for doing this for us! We need an original type 1 Conlon photo used as the image for some cards,,, Rob Slatkin |
Hopefully someone takes and posts a lot of photos from this event. I have too much going on this year for a last minute trip but I may plan ahead and attend next year.
|
If this "get together" gets legs -- grows year over year for a few years, Andrew and I may seek to convert it into the "Vintage National".
How we define "vintage" would be up for debate, but I am thinking all sports, all types of stuff (cards, photos, memorabillia, etc) from 1979 or earlier. Ozzie Smith Ok, Rickey Henderson not OK. |

Are the majority of people setting up a showcase of some sort? Or just walking around being social.
Looking forward to this for sure. |

Weird request, I need a 1970 Topps Nolan Ryan to finish a set. Decent eye appeal is more important than the technical grade. If anyone has one in the $200 neighborhood and wouldn't mind bringing such a new card to the event I'd be appreciative!

However if you were to make it the Pre War National, you'd be the instant industry standard! |

Matt, last year there was a mix. Some people set up with a display case, some just laid their cards out on a table, and some walked around with a box of cards. Whatever works for you is fine.

Just wanted to reiterate a few things for Saturday:
The event, which runs from 11am to 5pm, is free to attend. We will be accepting voluntary donations at the door for Wolf Trap Animal Rescue (www.wtarescue.com), a local non-profit organization that saves dogs and cats that would otherwise be euthanized. A formal card display is absolutely not necessary, and plenty of people last year just brought a box of cards and walked around. It is fine to come even if you dont bring any cards, but I would encourage you to bring something from your collection. Trading, buying, selling - all fine - or just show your collection so we can all see some cool cards. There will be a beverage station with water, iced tea, and lemonade. Those drinks will be free. Alcoholic beverages and food can be purchased from the restaurant and bar. Everyone will have their own bill/tab. IMO, the food is pretty good. Here is a link to the menu... https://www.1757golfclub.com/_fileli...ing-2216-1.pdf The event will take place in the Monroe Room (approx. 1680 sf). Last year, the space was sufficient, and we were able to spread out a bit once we had an idea of how many people would be showing up. For those of you that do want to set up a display, I expect that everyone should have room for up to two display cases (or equivalent). We will do our best to make adjustments as necessary to ensure that everyone has space. Table location will be on a first come/first served basis. Please watch your cards at all times. When you arrive at 1757 (45120 Waxpool Road, Dulles, VA), there will be plenty of parking in front of the clubhouse. Use the main entrance (photo posted earlier in this thread) and take a left once you are in the clubhouse. You will see the Monroe Room on your right. Name tags will be available, and are recommended, since many of us may only know names and/orNet54 profile names, but not faces. I will try to take some video and photos to post here for those of you that are unable to attend. See you on Saturday! Andrew |

See y'all Saturday
I can't wait to come up and see everyone Saturday! You guys are all the best of the best.
|
Ryan and Andrew,
Congratulations on putting together your 2nd Annual event, I'm sure a fun time will be had by everybody. I sent a donation to Wolf Trap with the caveat that you guys keep an eye out for any Bender white cap rare backs for me. Enjoy! -Phil |
I wanted to attend and bring non-baseball!!! (Oh God, lock the doors quickly and keep quiet!!). Unfortunately, one of the Christmas presents to my wife was a weekend at a Hilton in Arlington, VA which has one of the only executive lounges in the U.S. Our upstairs neighbors are obnoxious when sports is on. Not just yelling, but dropping the f-bomb. She asked for this so she got it.
I should be able to attend next year as we are closing on our new house in Fredericksburg in 3 weeks. Looking forward to that. The basement is a 1400 sq. ft. 5 room apartment with full kitchen. Since I work from home she suggested I turn that into an office and use it for whatever I want including my Olympic and Concert photo archives. Lots of wall space. |
Phil, thank you for donating! I will keep my eyes open 👍.

Thanks again to Andrew and Ryan for organizing/hosting!
An unreal collection of history in that room. Had a really fun time meeting Hank Thomas and so many others. Feel like I saw several years-worth of pre-war auctions in the span of 2.5 hours. Lot of stuff I've never seen before and may never see again. Almost got a couple of trades done--hopefully next year. Sorry for the quality of the attached pictures, but these were some of my favorite items. |
Another fantastic meetup
So glad to see so many amazing collectors and collections in one place It was like being in the Louvre museum equivalent for prewar baseball cards |
