Yes. Debuts from the 80’s to today are effectively limited by the OP’s stipulations, as the most dominant players of that period are soft banned from the Hall or are still active and we don’t really have a career to work with. The significant gaps bother me, the largest being the 19th century. I get this board never lets reason interfere with bitching, but this is really, really simple.

Manager. McGraw

c. Bench
1b. Gehrig
2b. Hornsby
3b. Schmidt
ss. Wagner
lf. Cobb
cf. Mays
rf. Ruth
dh. Williams
SP. Johnson
RP. Rivera

In this imaginary scenario, Cobb has a sprained knee, so Clemente plays right, and Ruth shifts to left.

As the OP, I feel comfortable that I haven't been very restrictive. The ask was for an All Time HOF team..not an all -time team. There may well be a bias to players from the 1920s - 1970s. but it's just a bit of fun. I see a number of people have included modern names.

With regards to 19th century players, my own feeling was that they'd be out of place in the modern game. Would King Kelly be able to compete against players from 1925 onwards I'm not so sure.

What i find most surprising is that nobody chose Harold Baines...even as DH. Who'd have thought? 😆

It is a fact that the HOF stipulation essentially removes the names of the guys who debuted in the 80's or later and are genuine candidates. Bonds for LF? Not eligible. Clemens on the mound? Not eligible. A-Rod for SS? Not eligible. Trout? Not eligible.

This is not a criticism or a complaint. It is a statement of actual fact.
