Phil, that Jimmy Lewis awesome. Love the "Sac'to!"

I was the underbidder on this. Absolutely stunning example with rectangular corners and very little chipping compared to other low grades!

Huge thanks to Chris B, this is a major rare back for my Chase run, quite a tough combo for this pose. Up to 17 cards in the run.

Great looking run, how many cards in the total Chase run?

MVSNYC 06-10-2023 03:19 PM

Thanks!

Maybe Chris can chime in, he is the resident expert on the Chase run. I think it's low-20's without coupons, and mid-high-20's with. The next card I’m seeking is the Cycle 460, then after that it gets VERY tough. But I’m really happy with where the run is at now...(I'm also busy finishing my run of all known backs in general- brands, series, factories, ink color variations.)

atx840 06-10-2023 04:34 PM

Looking good Mike!

I think there 28 confirmed; five coupons, a victory & 22 T206s. Maybe a blank, BL460 or Drum will show up one day.

Great pickups everyone! Pete, the signed Ruth is amazing!

Just go this via trade with a board member:

Feels awesome to be able to pair this incredibly rare Ferguson Bakery with the Fleischmann copy I had of Mathewson:

The Ferguson name is "Christy" with one line of identification, and "Christopher" on the Fleischmann with 2 lines of text.

mrreality68 06-11-2023 12:32 PM

The pair belonged together

Congrats Erik

Exhibitman 06-11-2023 12:50 PM

If you bring in a miscut F50 do you get only half a scoop of ice cream?

That signed Ruth Exhibit, wow, that is my kinda card!

I had a lot of those transit passes years ago; wonder if that was my old group coming to market? Here is another sports one:

This is actually a picture of Joe Louis from a fight he had with Lee Ramage in Los Angeles in 1935.

Thanks Peter and it’s been a while… Thanks to Adams book I read years ago, I picked this 26-29 Exhibit up which we know should be 1925-31. Plus having the blank back makes it part of the first print run dating it to 1925, as they had the various postcard backs soon after.

Kruger, McElveen, Miller, Rossman, and Spencer all came from Greg Morris Cards via eBay (actually they were part of a lot from an REA auction in May that had a group of Howe’s stamped cards).

Schmidt was one I missed when Scott was auctioning off the large lot he won from Goldin. But I knew who the winner was, and he recently contacted me to see if I might still be interested in adding him with the rest. As a surprise, he had also found a Phelan with the Urich H. McCormick - Agent, Saturday Evening Post stamp (so far only found in green) so I got it also.

These bring the total up to 390 different Howe-stamped cards on the way to trying to build a complete set, with 17 of those being his Saturday Evening Post stamps.

Thought I would share my T206 progress. Started early April working toward the 520 on a budget. I have 68 cards which is around 13%, with 12% of the HOFers, and 15% of the Southern League. No Cobbs just yet :(

Great start and great looking collection! Congrats!

Both on the way. An upgrade to the Griffith and another knocked off the list for the Herzog Boston back run! First pickups in at least 6 to 8 months. Trying to save for that Green Cobby :)

I love how the brown old mills really look brown, not so much like a lot of the Brown Lenox's I see. Great card, Michael.

41 Play Balls are underrated. Great set. Really fun to flip through the pages. Need about 5 more to complete. Picked up this Eddie Miller (somewhat tough card in nice shape, number 1 card).

Thanks, Leon! That means a lot coming from you.

Re: your Brown Lenox observation- you are correct, many of them are a little hard to tell...I'm fortunate to have an example where the brown pops. Attached below...

I really enjoy seeing these great cards [in pick-up threads] and where folks are focused.

Happy to add this "Buffinton" to my collection of significant others. Also updating my progress on the Mathews pickup a while back, as I have finally found someone to grade / holder it . . . me :) JMO = Just My Opinion

Two Pairs

2 Attachment(s)
The winners of 3 and 2 games respectively in the 1903 World Series. My apologies to the estate of Denton Young for his image being a little blurry, but it was tough to get a raw and slabbed together.

I know this next pair isn't pre-war but I had to post my favorite broadcast team as I watched a lot of these guy on WPIX when growing up.

Nice!!!

I actually can't remember when I got my Bill Dinneen, but the Young is recent and I had to pair them. I work at Northeastern University in Boston and our campus is the site of the old Huntington Avenue Grounds where the Sox played before Fenway opened. There's a statue of Cy Young where the mound used to be.

Lobo Aullando 06-21-2023 01:31 PM

The thing about those big East Coast cities, it seems like one is always merely a few blocks away from some fascinating built-over history. I just wish there were more aerial images from before WWII.

Great card, and thanks for mentioning the Deacon's very great feat. If Leever hadn't injured himself right before the series and if Doheny hadn't suffered a complete mental breakdown, who knows?

My kind of card. And with the stain Eddie's suit and his slumpiness are not as noticeable.

Via Greg Morris I added these two Jacksonville Jays players (1910 T210 red borders). Now on the hunt for "Wahl" the last player I need for my team set.
