Yours pictures the 1903 Pirates pennant winning team, which was referred to as the "Champions for 1904.". This was a common title at the time, but can now be confusing. The Giants won the NL pennant in 1904 and were referred to as the "Champions for 1905" at the time. Here is the Pittsburg composite from 1903 from an image that I stole from the internet. Again, it pictures members of the 1902 pennant winning team. |

And just to add to the confusion, here is the Pirate composite from the 1905 set. It pictures players from the 1904 team and since they did not win the pennant, the title only identifies them as being from 1904, but it was definitely issued in 1905. I have also attached the cover of the portfolio.
