I don’t know if either have already been mentioned but the two in my mind are I’m Not In Love by 10cc and I Can See Clearly Now by Johnny Nash.

That tune from Dave is one of his best. Forgotten all about it until you mentioned it. I hit up Youtube to hear it again. |
Spotify shuffle
There are about a thousand songs that I have on shuffle and just play continuously.
Then I check out the suggestions on this thread and the other music threads. I really appreciate that you guys dig past the Gold record hits that have been overplayed. Even those are sometimes worth hearing a few thousand times more but I think you aficionados know what I mean. Tonight as I was “shuffling” I heard these two back to back and thought of this thread : Al Stewart - “Year of the Cat” Todd Rundgren - “Hello it’s Me” Yes they were hits, but these songs are perfect every note. I don’t think I really care for any other stuff by either artist. But these songs…Home Runs! Whaddya think? |
I am all over the place in music but here are some off the top of my head I enjoy in no particular order
Alright Now - Free Some Kind of Wonderful - Grand Funk Runaway- Del Shannon In the Still of the Night - Five Satins Baker Street - Gerry Rafferty Dream Weaver - Gary Wright Half Your Age - Kid Rock I'll Take You There - Staple Singers Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton The Walk - Mayer Hawthorne Gravity - John Mayer One - U2 A Man I'll Never Be - Boston Sara Smile - Hall and Oates Cruisin' - Smokey Robinson Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - Otis Redding Back Where I Started - Box of Frogs Beautiful Boy - John Lennon Strange Magic - ELO Simple Man - Lynyrd Skynyrd Lyin' Eyes - Eagles Somebody's Cryin' - Chris Isaak Cool Change - Little River Band Shakedown Cruise - Jay Ferguson Long Island Sound - Anthony Rosano and the Conqueroos Sent from my SM-N950U using Tapatalk |

Or check out some off Rundgren's stuff when he was with the group Utopia. |
Ha
I’m willing to dig deeper for Rundgren.
I’d be surprised if the same artist who crafted “hello it’s me” didn’t have a few others that I would enjoy. But the song “we gotta get you a woman” sounds like something my junior high school buddies said to my pimply faced self when I tried showing them my 1975 Topps collection. ;) Now Al Stewart, cmon “Time Passages” ? No thank you. |

Let's not confuse Todd Rundgren with Steve Winwood.

I take back what I said, or at least alter it. Did a little checking and he didn't play and sing everything on every one of his solo songs. On the album Runt he did have some bass and drum help. On other records/songs he'd occasionally bring in a lead guitarist, but still the bulk of the playing and singing was just him apparently.. |

Perfect Songs
This is a great thread... I used this in class today to get the students to talk as an "icebreaker" activity. Of course, I did not recognize most of the songs that they listed, but did have Queen and Journey represented by the students. I played Let's Groove by Earth, Wind, and Fire, then topped it off with Blue Moon by the Marcels.
Thanks Steve |
Sultans of Swing - Dire Straits. Specifically the version I linked below
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Pa9x9fZBtY Knopfler's work on the guitar is incredible as always, but that druming is incredible as well! |

I love Apple Music. Every week it gives you several “for you” mixes from your library. Here’s some examples from last week.
|
I didn't see either listed, so I felt compelled to add:
"We've Got Tonight" - Bob Seger "Into Dust" - Mazzy Star Bonus: "Sometime Around Midnight" - The Airborne Toxic Event |

Another one, this time from two of the best women in Rock N Roll
Alone - Heart https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rtopccRfyUU I seem to have this obsession with finding artists/bands later in their career singing their classics. Something about hearing how their voices have aged, and how the meaning of the song seems to change a little bit. When a younger Ann Wilson sings this I think of her trying to find a way to confess her feelings to someone. When I hear an older Ann Wilson sing it, It almost feels like she's trying to speak to someone from her youth that has long been happily married, but it's a Romance she's dwelling on. Not sure if it's just me in that regard. |
Resurrecting this thread, to share another fantastic live performance from the Eagles. New Kid in Town is one of the most underrated songs in their catalogue, in my opinion! One of my favorites from a show in 1977. Wish I could've seen them in their prime!

Brian Wilson
Smile - Live The band behind him is just amazing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UbN...channel=Sweven Grateful Dead China Cat Sunflower / I Know You Rider Europe 1972 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCgZ...StrangeTrip710 The Who Live at Leeds Greatest live album of all time. Listen with headphones and make sure it’s turned up loud! And you’ll want to be sitting in a chair with arm rests because you’re gonna need something to grab onto when it starts. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G4kk...nnel=MazNourII And my favorite comment ever about the Eagles: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FN8a...el=ScottUlrich |
Fortunate Son - CCR ( I can't believe no one has mentioned them yet)
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For - U2 (Joshua Tree is a GOAT album) |

Maybe not everyone's taste but anytime I hear Sabotage by the Beastie Boys I stop what I'm doing.

I see my favorite rock song listed -- Can't You See -- although Free Bird a close second. Favorite ballad would be Adele's Someone Like You, which knocked Shirelles' Will You Love Me Tomorrow out of first place. As to Eva Cassidy, Fields of Gold (by Sting) is excellent. |
