Camnitz was the 1st Turkey Red I ever owned.
When PSA started to grade these, I sent in this Camnitz, it was the only Camnitz on their pop report & they had about 30 total cards graded.

Thanks for sharing a little about your T3 journey. We'll get to my first T3 in a little over two weeks from now. It was bought in 2011 on Ebay, coincidentally from a current net54 member. I owned that one Turkey Red for over 9 years before I bought my second T3 early in 2021.

Jay Wolt 10-25-2021 11:37 AM

Chad I purchased the Camnitz around 1990 for maybe $80-90

Damn, Chad…you bought your 2nd earlier this year and you’re at 87 now!?!

Yep. #2 through #26 all came at once. In fact, over 60 of those came in ungraded lots. That's about the only way to make it happen that quickly, unless you have unlimited cash I suppose. I've also sold or traded another 18 or so duplicates, and I have five or six more to sell that I haven't gotten around to posting on the BST yet. It's been quite the ride, but extremely enjoyable. It has been quiet lately, but I'll be posting my newest addition today in the October pickup thread. It's a big pickup for me as I've seen just one for sale during the last six months (Memory Lane), and like every T3 in that auction it was too expensive for me.

Fred Clarke, a great hitter and outstanding fielder, still holds the record for most hits in a major league debut, with a 5 for 5 performance for Louisville on June 30, 1894.

Fred Clarke…I will add here a great piece I got in the Original Halper auction gifted to Fred by the team in honor of the first World Series that he played in and managed the Pirates for.

Jay and Paul, nice cards! Sadly, I have nothing to share today, but I'm actively looking for a Cobb and would love to hear about any that might be available!

EDIT on 12/24/21 to add my recently acquired Cobb!

Great Cobbs guys.

I am going to be putting that card on my want list.
Not going to get one for a while. Have others higher up and the want list
But these cards have a great look to them

Chad, good luck finding one you like in your price range. They seem to show up in auctions somewhat frequently. If I see one, I'll try to remember to let you know.

Yes, they do, two come to mind recently. Decent copies are going for near and over 5 figures now. Thanks!

….and well deserved. Arguably the most aesthetically pleasing card in the hobby. It’s been undervalued for some time now, IMO.

Some nice Cobbs yesterday, and Craig got caught up with his no offer backs including a Cobb. Amazing to see so many of the no offers when I hardly saw any while working on the set.

Art Devlin for today.

I knew Cobbs had gone up lately, but I didn't realize how much. There's a PSA 2.5 for sale by tonyetrade.com for $21,725. I bought quite a few T3s from him for my set, and the prices he has them for now all seem a lot higher than what I was paying last year.

That's because I bought all of the sub-$300 cards he had ;) Not really, but I did buy around 10 from Tony. That Cobb price is a stretch for sure, but I don't blame him for listing it there given the current market. Might as well give the Dean's Cards business model a shot. If he does sell it for that, my future prospects for finishing the set will be bleak.

EDIT: Nice Devlins everyone! This card was one of the tougher commons for me to track down.

Wild Bill Donovan (as he is listed in the SCD entry for the T3 set)

chadeast 10-30-2021 09:44 AM

"Wild Bill" was a very good pitcher who helped Cobb's Tigers to three consecutive pennants from 1907-1909. His first managerial job was with the Providence Grays of the International League. Here he is with the 1914 Grays, front and center, managing a promising young rookie pitcher standing behind him that you might recognize.

There's a near complete set of T3s available in an auction that just started. For anyone interested, here's a link to it.
