I agree it’s overgraded by PSA standards. But maybe they are going with a more equitable grading scale, and not trying to emulate PSA. Just theorizing.

It used to be...a few years ago...that at any given moment of any day...you could go on ebay and find goudey ruths...mantle rookies...t206 cobb...they've all dried up...and noones selling.

The 52 topps mays has had quite a run lately...So why are there sooo many for sale right now on ebay...there are tons!!!!! I get that many are taking profits...but...isn't this. card that should bridge the gap with mantle as time goes by? Do people NOT want to hold this card?

The 52 topps mantle has had quite a run lately...So why are there sooo many for sale right now on ebay...there are tons!!!!! I get that many are taking profits...but...isn't this. card that should bridge the gap with mantle as time goes by? Do people NOT want to hold this card?

I have a guess. This card, perhaps more so than the others you mentioned, has been purchased over the years as an investment by some, and not necessarily as a collectible (little emotional attachment to the card). So some of those who purchased it as an investment now see this as the time to cash out on that investment.

Obviously not the majority, but if, say 10% of t206 Cobb buyers purchase purely as an investment, while 30% of Mantle 311 buyers do the same, there would be many more Mantles up for sale when the market rises dramatically, as it has now. Again, just a guess.

I do, unfortunately, It's not a PSA so no one would want it anyway. It's a very trimmable & soakable PSA 7, so maybe send it off to PWCC for a shill bidding war?

I'm not liking the CSG 2.5 Mays much.:( The card or the holder.:o

That card looks soooooo much better in the SGC holder. Very classy and hope it never ends up trimmed and in a PSA slab.

The new grading company really needs to pay attention to the near-unanimous comments here, and address their aesthetics for vintage cards.

I predict an increased interest in the vintage card demographic by CSG, once the current modern card boom ends. We aren't GameStop, but maybe we are the blue chip stock that churns out dividends year after year, good times or bad. :)

Well, looks like the masses have spoken and we have an answer - no bids. In a world of increasingly crazy prices, looks like sanity prevailed for a moment.

I'm no slabber, but I don't have as big of an issue with the 2.5 grade. That's saying it is 75% less than perfect. A "1" can be a wide range of ugly far worse than this card. No 100+ year old card looks good in a plastic slab with a hologrammed flip and barcode to me. Like comparing a turd to a booger.

That puts it in better perspective. If all 2.5's looked the same it would be nice. The CSG is the turd in this battle.

My 2.5 SGC comparison

That Mantle looks a lot nicer than a 2.5. Great card!

Thanks, I feel it's undergrade, but sgc does grade tough.

Agreed. That is a tough grade for that Mantle. Here's the first 2.5 that I found in my scanned cards. Probably a pretty typical example, but still quite a bit nicer than that Mays card, imho.

And the holder/label looks a lot better too

And yet, sanity has left the building once again. Listed for $6,999.00 now, with the Make Offer active. Sure, why not?!?

If you get that mantle regraded you’ll probably get a CSG 4.5

LincolnVT 03-24-2021 07:08 AM

What does the back look like? Is there some staining down the left hand quarter of the card. Really nice 2.5!

I believe so, it doesn't look that noticable and looks better in person under normal lighting than the scan, i did pay a little more than vcp back then(i think closer to psa 2.5 price)

Here's another 2.5 on ebay compare to the mays
