Any band with Joe Walsh playing the guitar is pretty good. So. I'll listen to the James Gang, and what was that other band he was in, oh, the Eagles. They became a rock band about half way through New Kid in Town.

I spent most of the 60s and 70s in Southern California, and the Eagles' "Hotel California" always sounded to me like smooth jazz for the soft rock crowd. It came out during my sophomore year in high school, and I heard it nonstop through my senior year. At the time, I was into the Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin, two other bands that are high on some other "hate 'em" lists.

Meh, to me, means I really have no reaction. They aren't exciting, they aren't awesome, they aren't awful, they are just sort of there.

I've never really understood the fascination with Sinatra, either, and I'm totally willing to listen to that style.

Two other way-back guys who are underappreciated, in my mind, are Louis Prima and Little Richard. I imagine my grandparents, he in his bowtie and she in her poodle skirt, doing the Charleston, then along comes Little Richard?? I'd give anything to see him perform in the late 50's. And Louis Prima is the first guy I'd call "cool."

Now, compare it against an artisan turkey sandwich, with cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, maybe some flavored sandwich spread, fresh baked bread, maybe even real sliced turkey breast.

I consider Credence Clearwater Revival, similar to The Eagles, to be the far better band. I can listen to their greatest hits album endlessly.

Not sure if this is “unpopular”, but I’ve mentioned it to friends and got limited reaction: “MAPS” by the Yeah Yeah Yeahs is probably the best rock song to hit the airwaves in the last 21 years. Since music sucked between the years 1990-2002, I’d say it’s the best rock song since 1990.

Led Zeppelin is the most overrated band of all time. I absolutely DESPISE every single song I have EVER heard from them. Robert Plant can't sing, Jimmy Page is the most overrated guitar player in history, John Bonham sounds like he's kicking his kit down a flight of stairs and who the hell is John Paul Jones?

John Cougar and Eddie Money had careers due to a lack of 80's competition.

Fleetwood Mac was a much better band before Christine McVie, Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham came on board.

Spur of the moment a few years ago I went to see Cheap Trick. I have a few musician friends who are into them. Never a band I had much feelings about either way. It was a small club and I stood fairly close to the stage. I was one of the worst acts I have ever seen. And prob a band that toured constantly pre-Covid for 25 years A lot of bad music to sit through to get to I Want You to Want Me.

A hundred years ago my girlfriend talked me into going to see them at Jones Beach. I thought, "Okay, I can sing along to all of their casual pop hits at a great outdoor venue. Why not?" Our seats were relatively close to the stage, and by the end of the night (and for seemingly weeks after) I COULDN'T HEAR A FRICKIN' THING!!! They were Led Zeppelin times a thousand, and it surprised the living crap out of me!!!

I always liked their theme song to the little known movie "Up The Creek".

When retail could still afford in-store music, one of the Muzak companies provided a bunch of rock songs done that way.

The most surprising was enjoying one and realizing it was Seek and Destroy by Metallica.

For fans of "southern" rock...back in the day when rock was regionalized:

1. The Eagles got worse the further they went on. The early country-rock stuff was interesting. Not Gram Parsons interesting, but still interesting.
2. Other than Chris Stapleton, modern mainstream country isn't worth saving. Country could be saved if the suits on Music Row and at the CMAs would stop ignoring really gifted songwriters like Jason Isbell, Sturgill Simpson, and Robbie Fulks.
3. Lucinda Williams has gotten way better with age.
4. The Slayer version of "Got the Time" is better than the Joe Jackson original

I was on hold waiting for a company wide conference call to begin. The synth string music sounded vaguely familiar, so I Shazamed it. It turned out to be a Muzak version of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit."

Hey as long as at least one of your posts include a member of the Simpsons, it's all good.

I think Dino is so underappreciated because of how private he was. Did a very good job of Setting up the barriers between his Public Persona and Private Life.

As for your point on Sinatra, all of his fans, myself included, don't remember the bad songs, we only remember the good renditions :D. I think Sinatra is so well received because of how much of a Showman he was, the fact that he could dance, sing and somewhat act. His constant links to the premier Hollywood Starlets, or his questionable ties to the Italian Mafia. He was an interesting person. And Damn Good looking too, if I say so myself!

There was this club called Brownies in Alphabet City. Ian was always there, after Anthrax got big. A guy hanging out watching good music. I think the sound guy at Brownies was a legend in the NYC music scene.
